It's a little roadside bar with outdoor seating and the food on display. More of a food stand/bar than a restaurant, similar to the kiosks in Luquillo. Great place to go on a warm night. We didn't really know what to order so I walked up and said "What's the best?" in my limited spanish and they said "everything." They were absolutely correct. We ordered the chicken, mafongo, plaintains, and the roasted pork. Everything was pulled off the spit, cut with a machete and served fresh. The chicken and pork was moist, tender and delicious. Some of the best chicken I've ever had. The mafongo and plaintains were equally good. Best of all it was dirt cheap. All in all, an excellent introduction to authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. It can be a little intimidating because it has a bit of a "locals only" feel. The food is worth a little initial discomfort and you'll get over it very quickly once you see how friendly everyone is.

The chicken is juicy with insanely good crispy skin. The pork ribs melt in your mouth. The plantains are golden and the Yuca takes garlic to a new level. As a bonus, the food is also a bargain. To get four people completely full, plus 2 soda's, 2 beers and a Pina Colada was $36.

A minute or two later a woman came out and started naming what was on the menu (they had a wall menu in English, but we're out of some items). It turns out she was the waitress/chef. In broken Spanish, I told the woman I had a gluten allergy so we remained what I could eat that didn't have gluten. I was intrigued by her mention of octopus given that we were so close to the sea. The waitress/chef brought out a sample of ceviche octopus. It was so yummy!! The octopus wasn't rubbery at all. It had a good meaty bit and tasted like the sea. We both decided to have the octopus two ways. My husband had it as a ceviche w/ tostones and I had my octopus in a red sauce over mofongo. It was comfort food! The mofongo was hearty and tasted homemade. We also met an English speaking gentleman who was at the restaurant (role unknown) who gave us tips re: nearby beaches. The restaurant has a parking lot and a great view of the water. It was nice to have so much attention with wonderful home cooked food. If you are in the area after a long day at the beach I would recommend this little find.

I'd booked us a snorkel and bio bay tour in town and we'd driven hours to get here from San Juan (amateur mistake but a happy accident since we got to discover a new part of the island!) we needed a spot that was still serving dinner before the long drive back home and found La Jamaca by chance. The pretty lights in the pool and laidback vibe were so welcoming, and then the food-- all authentic Puerto Rican fare made incredibly well-- really sealed the deal. We decided on that night to get married on the island, which happened six months later (though closer to SJU just to simplify for my side of the family.) We have been visiting the island regularly ever since, but only made our way back to this side this weekend, since we were planning to see in laws in Lares the next day and this would be closer than the East side where we were, so we got to eat here AND spend the night at last. I was worried maybe I was rewriting it through a nostalgic lens but when our food came out -- wow. It was JUST as delicious as I remembered. You cannot beat this place for perfectly prepared, heaping portions of delicious Puerto Rican cuisine. They started us out with a complimentary cup of plantain soup which was a tasty, perfect way to whey the appetite - and gave my husband strong nostalgia since it was always his grandmother's fav. We decided to split an app and entree and it wound up being more than enough food-- to be opulent we did the lobster mofongo with garlic and started with the churrasco con queso empanadas (three in an order and they're the full size, so... BIG!) The mofongo was moist and flavorful, with a ton of lobster peppered around it, cooked to garlicky perfection, and the empanadas had a gorgeous crust and flavorful chunks of steak with melty mozzerella. Everything was divine and we were so happy we got to try the food here again and that it was still so wonderful. It's off the beaten path and in a cute low key spot - but i would wager this stands up to any meal you'd get in the center of town.

We got a seat outside, overlooking the water with the most beautiful view. (If you come you have to sit outside!) They also had live music which made it so special. We decided to order the platanos rellenos of ropa vieja and they were so good. Being from Miami and missing home, these definitely hit the spot. We also ordered sorullitos which were fried perfectly and so tasty. For dinner we split a cubano sandwich and it was so hearty. The pork was done to perfection and it was a perfect meal to split since we wanted to pick at different things. I can't wait to go back and try one of their dinner entrees!

We sat on the covered porch on the water as we waited for the rain (and the roads) to clear. I parked across the street, which was fine. The patio was nice, right on the water with boats bobbing and nice views. Service was team-style, with a young and enthusiastic staff who spoke English but really challenged my Spanish ability as well! Food came out pretty quick. I had a mojito which frankly was far from the best I had in this trip (it was t too sweet but the mont leaves seemed whole, not muddled). We had the conch ceviche which was EXCELLENT. We also split the seafood paella, which was also EXCELLENT. I was also very jealous of the whole red snapper being served at the table next to us, but no regrets - the squid, conch, shrimp, octopus, and mussels in the paella were all fantastic. Nice views, nice service, great food. Would highly recommend.
