UPDATE: Mike, one of the owners, called me to apologize about my experience. I appreciated his sincerity and will change my review from 1 star to 3 and hope you have better results than I did. Due to good reviews, I took a ring needing a center stone replaced and the band repaired to Vera's. The friendly salesperson wanted to keep the ring to give me an estimate. She didn't think it could be fixed, but they could remake it. Left my contact info but not the ring, as I had an appointment with another jeweler the next day for an estimate. After a week or more passed, I called Vera's and spoke to the same salesperson. She remembered me but was still waiting on the owners for help coming up with a price. That was a month ago, and I don't know about the salesperson, but I got tired of waiting and went to a jewler who is able to repair it and picks up the phone to tell me so. Very professional service in repairing an older ring with worn stone settings. Prices were very good and they had the opportunity to up-sell but they did not. Repairs take a couple weeks unlike the mega stores, but the price and quality are worth the wait. They did beautiful and durable work. I want to highly recommend Veras Fine Jewelers. I have a wedding band that had to be enlarged due to arthritis. Before going to Veras I went to other Jewelers who made me feel awful Re the new ring size. I was totally embarrassed They could not understand the sentimental value of a 38 year old wedding ring. I was basically told to discard it and upgrade I went to Veras and they made me totally comfortable and did not make me feel embarrassed of myself. I had them resize the ring that had to be cut off and now have my wedding band back. They did a beautiful job and it took less time then expected. I've purchased tens of thousands of dollars with Vera and Mike over the last 11 years and have sent them many, many referrals. My recent experience had a list of errors on their part too long to list. When I let them know and tried to find a resolution, I was attacked and told that they were tired of me bugging them. All I wanted was for me new $18000 custom ring to be sized appropriately and my husband's band ordered at the price we were quoted. Apparently that's too much to ask??? The way we were treated is unacceptable. I used to rave about Vera's. As a business owner, in my opinion no customer service equals no customers. Sad to move on to a new jeweler... Now that I have read the response below, I am even more tempted to spell out the list of things that went wrong, but I won't do that as I don't see it serving a purpose. The list includes approximately 10 mistakes along the way on this one purchase. The most important is the fact that the ring isn't at all like the photo that I gave them. I asked that they go and see the ring personally at a competitor if necessary since we were using our own center stone. I wanted to ensure that the surrounding diamonds complemented it and did not distract. The ring looks nothing like I requested and I'm stuck looking at it daily. We were told several things that were untrue and/or never happened. It's obvious that Mike and Vera do not care about retaining clients. I would never post anything that wasn't true and do not appreciate being made out to be a liar. I pulled out some of my appraisals from Vera and they totaled significantly more than this ring for items that I have purchased or had custom made in their store. However, EVERY client should matter regardless of how much they have spent. Despite all of these errors, we offered to meet in the middle on the ring that was quoted wrong and Mike refused. We asked if he was sure he was willing to lose a client for life over $150. His response was that he and Vera had discussed it and that is where they stood. I still do not want to believe this, especially from Vera. I am just so disappointed. read more

My fiance and I started our engagement ring search at Vera's because the initial impression and service was wonderful. We worked with one of the saleswoman and she was very accommodating, understanding, and patient. She was never pushy or inconsiderate. She showed us computer drawings based on what I had described as my ideal custom ring. From that point forward it never truly felt like what I had heard the custom process should be like. We had decided that a diamond center stone was not for us and that a light blue sapphire was what we really wanted. They were very helpful about trying to get one but they made no effort to find a stone in the shape and cut I wanted. Instead the ordered the closest thing. We fell in love with the color and put a down payment on the stone. In the end I am happy with a radiant sapphire but after they got our first check the service disintegrated. The understanding and patient saleswoman never took my calls and then I had to start working with other sales people. I was never offered a CAD drawing or even hand sketched draft of the custom setting but was expected to give them $1200 to begin working on it. I never even met said jewelry designer who would be crafting my ring. They were just going to build what they thought would work based on descriptions they hadn't even written down and a picture of an existing ring that I liked some aspect of but hated others. It became one of those moments where your gut KNOWS something isn't right. We ended up purchasing our center stone from Vera's because it was the perfect color and we knew that would could take it elsewhere to be built. All I can say is that I'm thankful we walked away with our stone and found an amazing custom jewelry designer here in Richmond that created my dream ring. If you are just going to order a stone to fit in a setting they have in-store then I'm sure they are fine but if you are looking for custom jewelry DON'T go to Vera's. read more

Not a regular customer, but have purchased a couple of items from Mike and Vera. Primarily, I purchased a Ball Worldtime dive watch from him, and the watch itself had problems from the onset. Other authorized dealers might have given up after an attempt or two to get the watch fixed, but Mike never gave up. After three unsuccessful attempts to fix the watch, he was able to convince Ball Watch Switzerland to replace the watch in it's entirety with a brand new piece. The issues with the watch had nothing to do with VFJ directly, it was a perpetual defect from the manufacturer. But Mike never quit, nor did he make excuses. Other ADs should take notes on how his persistence not only did justice to the brand he represents, it also gave VFJ (and Ball Watch Company) a loyal customer for life. Because of this persistence with the watch debacle, I bought my wedding rings from him. Again, they came through with flying colors, getting us the rings in pristine condition weeks ahead of when we needed them. Thanks again to Mike and Vera. I have purchased thousands of dollars of merchandise from Vera's. I went in to get a ring made and it all went down hill. The ring was made crooked, diamond set crooked and all I got was yelled at and made to feel sub par by Vera and Mike. THEY made the mistake and yet they try and make me the one at fault? I disputed the charge and they tried to remake the ring but it was STILL WRONG! They had all the employees gang up on me and made me feel bullied and scared. I threatened to call the police if they didn't stop. DO NOT go there. I have pics to back up my statements. Vera's thinks that they can do what they want. Let's see how long that lasts. I am a new customer with Vera's Fine Jewelers and I must say I haven't experienced such a wonderful place in a long time. Not only did the staff take time out of their day to just show me around, not rushing me or pushing me in any direction, they just talked to me like I was a friend, but the owner's, Mike and Vera, actually made it a point to come and introduce themselves to me! I was greeted with such pleasant, happy people and you can tell they enjoy their jobs and the environment they are in, because any person that were to walk in would feel the same. I had heard about Vera's from some friends so just decided to check it out, and boy I am so glad I did! I have since purchased things from there and am very impressed with the quality of their pieces, not to mention the custom piece that I had done. They were so helpful in working with me, even though I had no idea what I wanted, and they finished it WAY before the date they thought it would be done. When I went to pick it up everyone was there and was just as excited about my new ring as I was, which was great! I have now found my jeweler and will never go anywhere else again! I also highly recommend them to anyone for anything, whether custom, or a jewelry repair, or a gift, they do everything! I will continue to shop with Vera's and continue to refer people there as well!
