Needed movers because I couldn't ask my friends to help us move (I like my friends to stay that…read moreway). They came out and looked at all we wanted moved and listed it all and gave us a good estimate. We had a couple weeks to change items (some ended up selling with the house) and with those changes in place we awaited moving day. I don't know how to explain how great these guys were. They wrapped our items so nicely in blankets to avoid any damage. They were friendly and personable and way nicer to my 14yr old that kept asking them questions than they had to be. They didn't even grumble when I asked them to rearrange items when they got to the new house because I changed my mind where they should go. Best of all they moved a 300lb safe from a basement to another basement and tried their darnedest to get a standing freezer into the new house basement (unfortunately the logistics just didn't work). Estimate came in a lot lower than we expected too. I would recommend them again in a heartbeat !!!

Items were left behind in closets, kitchen items were missed, and overall there was a lack of attention to detail. We were also told that our toiletries were "too much" and they would not take them, and they refused to take unopened, brand-new laundry detergent. Communication became another major issue. We were notified less than 24 hours in advance that delivery would be taking place at 8:00 a.m. at our new home. We contacted ownership and simply asked if delivery could be moved to noon because my flight was not landing until 9:00 a.m. and my husband would arrive later that day. Instead of working with us, Angie was rude and stated that we already knew when they would be there. That was incorrect -- she appeared to be referring to the packing schedule, not delivery. I explained our travel situation and tried to communicate in advance. The next morning, I received a message stating they were signing paperwork as "customer not present" and leaving the load at the house. To make matters worse, we discovered damage and missing items: * One dresser was damaged * Another dresser was left laying on its side * Our Tempur-Pedic bed arrived missing wires/components * A decorative statue was damaged Moving is stressful enough, and we expected better communication, more care with our belongings, and basic customer service. Unfortunately, this was not a smooth or positive

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE STEER CLEAR OF ILLINOIS VALLEY MOVERS!!!…read more My experience with them was in June 2016. Our move was supposed to go smooth; after all, I was nine months pregnant and due in three weeks with a two-year old toddler in tow. What could possibly go wrong, right??? On moving day, we were expecting three movers at 12:00 noon. They showed up at 4:20 PM with four movers. When we complained, we were told by the owner that we would get a discount for them being so late. The movers didn't plastic wrap our furniture to try to protect it, they just came in and started moving items into the truck. They damaged both the furniture and the walls. After the move, they spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to put our bed back together before I asked them what was taking so long. They finally told us that the screws in my slats were stripped on our bed when taking it apart so we ended up putting the slats down without the screws. They then spent an additional 30 minutes attempting to put together our crib. Three of them were in the bedroom during this time; two were working and one was texting on his cell phone. They eventually left the crib unfinished. They didn't leave until almost 10:00PM, taking much longer than the original agreed upon time of completion. We were charged for the full time that they were there including the time they spent doing nothing. We were also charged for the "extra guy" that we never requested in the first place. Oh, but we did get the "discount" for them being over four hours late. The owner did nothing to work with us and waived us off as if he did us a favor. When we asked him for a receipt he was EXTREMELY rude and even threatened us because we left a bad review on the website where we found the company. My experience was HORRIBLE!!!

As others here have stated, you will get nothing but lies and empty promises from Chris. He said they were licensed movers, what he brought us was a rag-tag group of hired help that didn't have a clue in regards to how to move our stuff. They caused us thousands of dollars in damage in property (both home and personal) and when I tried to contact Chris he wouldn't return any of my calls. I then sent him photos of the damage they caused and he tried to say that damage was already there!!! I really think Chris is a con man, he doesn't own any equipment which makes it easy for him to run his business the way he does, if you try to sue him, there is nothing to liquidate to cover the lawsuit. I didn't know he didn't own a truck until he showed up at our house with a rental from Budget, he said this helps him keep costs low. I think it helps him run a bogus operation where he can rip people off, damage their stuff, and then disappear never to be heard from again. Chris is worthless and so is his company, find someone else to handle your move, you'll thank me later.

The amount of broken, damaged, or destroyed items is beyond belief! I've moved numerous times and never lost possessions like I did this time. It has been heartbreaking. The movers we hired to unload the truck (actual professionals, not pretend ones) couldn't believe how sloppily the truck was packed. We have solid wood tables with the legs snapped clean off, leather furniture with holes poked through, and numerous boxes that were just crushed and destroyed along with the contents. Boxes marked "fragile" we're put at the bottom of 9' high stacks of boxes and crushed to 1/3 of their size. Just because I have a lot of free time and I'm a masochist, I'm going to try to file a claim with their insurance company.

Here's the brief summary... Move scheduled over a month in advance for June 29th at 9am. Confirmed with them 1 week in advance. Truck, tools for furniture disassembly and shrink wrap were not provided, yet they said it would be. I had to scramble last minute to get a truck and we had to use our tools and labor to disassemble furniture. By the time we figured that out along with the mover's arrival we did not start moving until 3 hours late at noon. The two movers they did send were nice guys, but by no stretch were they experienced "pro" movers. It was hot, they rushed and we have what you can see in the pictures. The employee said he was not scheduled to work and was called last minute, he then called his brother who did not work for Verlys to help him. Yet, when I called with concern she told me I had two of their most experienced movers. 1 year of experience for one and 1 day for the other. So that is your most experienced? To top that off, because they were not even supposed to work they had to leave by 6PM, guess when the appliances were put on the truck - yep we had to unload those ourselves. So back to the pictures... Several pieces of furniture damaged, holes in walls that were just painted and deep scratches in the hardwood floors. Conservative estimate: $5-6K worth of damage. Would John Verly the owner call to even discuss after several requests through his so called manager, no they would not. Instead, tried to play victim that I only paid the labor and not the remainder of their fee. In my opinion, Verlys Pro Moving Labor who operates under cash only with no agreement or contract has done so because it is NOT a legitimate moving service as portrayed on Facebook. To further that, they are most likely fully aware that if they were to operate in a legitimate manner they would be opening themselves for being liable for situations like ours. Moral of the story - DO NOT use Verlys Pro Moving Labor.

ST wasn't the highest quote I received and they weren't the lowest, but my gut told me this was the company I should go with because It's family owned and operated and you work on your move with the actual people who control the logistics of getting everything right. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I can't tell you how many times between booking the move and the actual move itself, that I patted myself on the back for having had the good sense to choose them. It's hard to imagine there's a company out there who is better at what they do. I moved from Chicago to Newport Rhode Island at the height of the pandemic in July 2020 and ST never skipped a beat I can't stress enough how wonderful ST is. There were various things that came up during my move that were out of my control and Stevenson Transfer came to the rescue every time. Angie and Cindy (who will become your best friends if you choose ST for your move) are nothing short of amazing. I was in constant contact with them as things came up unexpectedly or changed. The movers who actually do the move are some of the most professional people I've worked with. Choosing ST was honestly one of the best decisions I ever made. Do yourself a favor and book them for your move. They are, simply, just that good! You won't regret it. Thanks ST for all your help and support - Margie
