Every time I need a a new window screen I come to this location. They been good until today. I placed my order Saturday July 6. Was told to to expect a call for the pick up time call came in mid day Monday and was told it would be ready for pick up at 3pm. Showed up to the store was informed by Ron one of the managers that the pice was not going to be ready until 4pm. It was upsetting that I drove from Compton to pick it up just to hear that. It would have been nice if they could have communicated that with me over the phone not wait for me to show up. Unfortunately I was unable to speak with the manager because Ron was the manager and he was not trying to hear it. And that is the reason they get one star poor communication. read more

I went in for a window screen because I was told by a friend they can make them for you. Awsome idea, and if I'm supporting a small business vs Home Depot even better. I placed my order and was told it'd be ready the next day. When I showed up to pick up my screen they couldn't find my paperwork so of course the screen wasn't ready. Seems like they misplaced the order sheet. I understand, I've worked retail before and shit happens. They probably got really busy (it was swamped when I first went) and forgot to file it. The staff was very apologetic and promised the screen would be ready the very next day. It was. I missed their call and they didn't leave a message (maybe leave messages so we know if our orders are ready? Just a thought), so I had to look up their number to know it was indeed a missed call from them. When I went to pick up my screen it was ready to go and I was very pleased with their work! The window screen was perfect and for the price it was honestly a steal. I'd give them 3.5 stars overall. Their great work on the window screen and the fact that they were quite apologetic about the mix up with the paperwork makes me feel like it was honest mistake. I will be returning. read more

Location is very convenient considering that a Home Depot is a few miles away. I needed to get some keys made since I like to be prepared for any type of emergency. There's two counters, one by the door and one a few steps further down the store. There was a line to pay so I went up to a sales associate that's in the back counter. I asked where can I get my keys duplicated and he didn't even look at me and with a tone told me I have to go to the front desk not this desk. I just turned around and went to the front desk kinda bummed due to this tone. Jesus at the register helped me out greatly and crafted my keys. Thank you for proper customer service Jesus. As for the first sales associate, maybe watch your tone, it's makes all the difference. Also, I don't need a response from the owner of the business. I've never had to purchase nuts or bolts and didn't know where to start but they have a complicated process of noting down everything you have in a bag above. The process is tidious and the workers don't like to provide customer service. They just Point at the isle number and let you figure it out. While there, an older lady walked in asking for assistance and they also sent her to the isle. My boyfriend and I asked the employees to help her and they said it was against policy to help which makes no sense. Would not recommend this place. read more

This True Value has been in this neighborhood for years. Quite honestly it's been a diamond in the rough here for as long as I can remember. They have everything you can think of when needing anything to fix or get replaced at home. The store is large, you wouldn't think it looking from the outside but walk in and it's a super large building that is well arranged and well kept. Staff here are very very helpful and very friendly as well. If you have questions ask anyone and they will happily help out. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone in the area or even if you are just driving by. Skip the large lines at other big stores and come here. I will definitely be back!!!! read more

Never been to this location before but my hubby seemed to have knew about it, so we stopped by. Parking in my opinion is a little tight seeing that they share it with another business. The store itself offers many products to be the size that it is. Customer service is awesome. There was a rep by the name of Joe. He knows his stuff. Anything we needed he could point is in the right direction. He was very patient with us and we were very happy with our products. Customer service here is usually great.. always greeted and asked what I can be helped with, which usually cuts the search time in half. I'm grateful for that. Today I went in with my bike and back pack after running some errands in the city.. as soon as I come in I'm told to "take off (my) backpack, leave it in the front" First off, even if it's policy to have "suspicious people" leave their bags in front, it's still a sexist/discriminatory/bullish. policy. Women walk in with bags all the time and aren't asked to leave their valuables with the cashier in the front. Why would any right minded person conform to leaving their cash, license, jewelry, credit card, etc with a stranger. Secondly, having worked in customer service 6 years, a rule of thumb for good customer service is not treating your clientele like a criminal. Next time have your associate practice better service by welcoming me... ask "how can I help you today?" "Looking for anything in particular? "I'm here if you need help" Thirdly, if after following proper customer service procedure, you still feel I'm a thief than ask 1 of the several associates to keep an eye on me. Lastly, I ignored the disrespect and continued on with my shopping.. I went up front to ask for help and walked in on him saying "look for the kid with glasses and a backpack that wouldn't leave when I told him to" which he never asked me to leave. Bad customer service is one thing, but lying about your encounter with me is a weak move. I've lived around the corner for 24 years but my allegiance won't continue here. Never shop here. The employees are liars. I called and asked if they had an 18V battery. The man I spoke to on the phone said yes and he would put it aside for me. I walk all the way over to this place, and not only did they "not know where they put it aside" but they actually don't even sell them and would have to special order for it. NEW GRASS BY GREEN THUMB For months I have been trying to grow grass in the front of my condo buildings. I purchased a national known brand grass seed and it was a waste of money. I purchased another well known grass seed product and no grass growing. I watered and feed the grass with lawn food--nothing grew. Then I searched smaller neighbor hardware stores and found TrueValue. I reviewed Green Thumb grass seed product and found positive reports. So being tired of turning dirt, I just threw the seeds on the ground. Between my efforts and the recent rains (which rain for 2 1/2 to 3 weeks), the lawn is beautiful. I'm moving out from USC after 5 1/2 years in the area next week, and I miss this place already. Good hardware stores are hard to find, and certainly beat the pants off Home Depot/Lowes/OSH/etc. If anyone knows of a good local hardware store in Echo Park, I'd love to hear about it. Let's start with the staff: friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. There's a good mix of experience and youth here, so while I enjoy chatting with the cute Latina at the counter when I drop in to pick up something simple, I know I can talk to Rob (the store manager, I think?) when I have a tough question on home improvement and he'll know exactly what I need. The inventory is also great. Rob once told me that he "doesn't stock crap," and I believe him. While they don't carry ultra-high end professional equipment, they don't carry el-cheapo stuff either, so you don't have to worry about making a bad purchase. Everything is reasonably priced, and the selection is broad enough to cover almost every standard home improvement project (painting, plumbing, basic interior/exterior repairs) without overwhelming you with choice. If you need something super specific, the staff can order it for you, or suggest an alternative way of solving your problem. Most importantly is convenience. While a lot of USC students would mark the area west of Vermont as "Here Be Dragons," the location is extremely safe, and super convenient if you live west of Hoover. There's a parking lot with a light on 29th if you're driving, and a sturdy U-rack right in front of the entrance for bike parking. The main reason I love this place so much is that I can realize halfway through a project that I'm missing a tool, hop on my bike, and be back with the required equipment in under 15 minutes. It usually takes me 15 minutes just to find the right aisle at Home Depot, so True Value really proves its worth here. read more

When I was at Home Depot, I not only felt marginalized because I am a woman, but I also felt like the employees didn't know what they were doing. Ron who I believe is the owner spoke to me like a 12 year old child. When I asked "Is there someone cutting glass today?" He responded "Well when you end your phone call I can help you" in a very bothered and curt manner. I informed him my mom is on the phone with questions and directions for what she wants done. He repeated "when you get off the phone I can help you." He could have easily said yes or no and answered the questions my mother had for him but he refused. I have no issue with ending the call once it was time to actually be serviced. I left and will never return. It's sad that owners think that they can treat people however they want and its no big deal since they don't want you there anyway. I'll head to Ace from now on. read more

If They Don't Have It Here, You Don't Need It Well, not exactly, if you are looking for specialized electrical parts, they don't have some odd stuff, but really, they have about 90% of what you need for electrical, plumbing, and sprinkler repair, along with a good supply of nuts and bolts. Why do I feel compelled to review a hardware store? Because their service was that good. The employees were incredibly helpful. I needed very specific parts for an engineering assignment. It turned out that some of them didn't even commercially exist. That didn't matter to them. They spent an hour + helping me find stuff, pitching alternate ideas of how I could build it. I like this place, I gone in a couple of times and had a lot of great help, people know there stuff in there and they are willing to teach and help. The reason I really like this place is because I need to create special projects for school once in a while. A couple of weeks I went into the store with no idea how to build a sturdy stand for my camera that had to rotate in different angles without having to hold the camera, thanks to their employee Alfredo (I believe that was his name) we came up with a great idea and he help me build it and it worked great. Called to ask about the very common Access-8 garage door opener that can be Googled where you will see dozens of them and what they look like and how they work. He was so caught up in trying to force teach me a lesson about garage door opener terms that he lost out on a customer. I hung up once he said "Well, first off there is no such thing as a universal garage door opener and they aren't notches they're switches." I work in customer service and I can tell you that you don't gain nor retain customers by down talking them like they are idiots. read more

I'm looking for a new garage door opener. I just left radio shack who sold me a multi code remote and assured me that it would work. When I got home, it didn't. I took it back and went to true value. The service here was great, the associate directed me exactly where it was. She also assured me that it would work but with a 20% restocking fee for returns I did not want to risk it. We looked at closet doors, door locks, flash lights and many other things. Blanca and Ron went above the beyond the call of duty to make sure everything we needed.
