The mechanics bled the brake system, and it felt somewhat better, so we assumed the issue was fixed and went on our way. This vehicle was new to us at the time, so we weren't sure what the brakes should normally feel like. During the trip we noticed pulsating when braking, so when we got home we brought it to another local shop closer to our home to change the pads and rotors. We were then informed that the rotors needed to be changed as expected, and also that our caloper bolts were loose and that some washers were missing, to the point where brake fluid was squirting out all over 1 of the wheels. This definitely should have been caught by People's Auto when they were diagnosing the issue of the spongy brake pedal. Since they did not fix the issue the money we paid them was a waste, and we had to pay another shop to fix the same issue. Due to their location it was not convenient for us to return to People's Auto to try to have them resolve the issue, but even if we did the wait time for our initial appointment was 2 weeks.

At one point it would randomly turn off, and not turn back on for a couple of minutes. Sometimes it just wouldn't start. The engine started to become shakey and hesitant. I tried a variety of shops; some would get it running for a little while, but the problems would return. They all charged a lot, and did very little. After the VW dealer wanted hundreds just for the parts to replace my oil tray (not including oil, oil change, labor or 'glue') I started really digging in to find speciality VW shops. Arriving at People's auto, I was skeptic to say the least. The garage is in the woods (fairly inconvenient) and may lack 'curb appeal'. My hesitation flew out the window when I started to describe some of my problems. "Oh, I know exactly waht that is" was the response (as opposed to the blank stares I had been growing used to in mechanics) turns out, it was just an adjustment to my 02 sensor, and new spark plugs. He replaced the oil tray, gave me a tune up and a once over, all for less than buying the tray at the VW dealership. I picked up the car the next day, and it was running better than the day I bought it. I went to people's auto for the better part of a year every time my car had a slight problem, or needed an oil change (after going there, my car had very few problems... excpet the ones that were clearly my fault). They guys are funny, friendly, fair and most importantly they know what they're doing. While I'm happy at Luis Lein's in somerville... I still day dream about dropping off my car at People's Auto, knowing it would get a once over to prevent future problems. I thought about knocking off a star for the location. I almost got killed by a speeding truck the last time I was there... but honestly, if this place operated at their prices any closer to hartford, I never would have been able to get an appointment.

We managed to limp the car home. Having been to Skytop a number of years back and happy with the service and pricing I decided to go back there even having been told by others not to and that they're very shady over there. I should have listened. We get home and I schedule an appointment for their earliest time slot which was about 5 days away. I explain what the issue was to the girl on the phone and she said basically no problem and would I need a tow? I thought I would so I said yes. Asked about the price and she gave me a tow price of $150 for only a couple miles town in town. We decided against it the day of the schedule. We get the car there. Drop it off and talk to another girl. Maybe the same one? She takes some more info and I talk about the tranny again. She takes down some notes. I then ask if they can take a look at the tire. One tire has a slow leak. She said well we can look at it but they don't do tire repair and to take it to another shop. Um... what? So whatever. We leave and she advised if they don't get to it today it will be the first one tomorrow morning. Ok fine. The next morning I receive a text message with a laughable inspection report. Regarding the transmission... "Possible transmission work needed - Take to a transmission shop." So naturally I call and question this. The girl on the phone said she can't help and quickly transferred me to the service department where another girl answered. I asked her to explain and she advised that their transmission guy left about a year ago and they no longer work on transmissions. UM SO WHY DID YOU TAKE THE CAR AND WASTE MY TIME?! Obviously at this point I'm prepping to go get the car and take it somewhere else. In the process of making those plans I get a text message from someone blaming me and telling me I was told on the initial call that they couldn't promise they could work on it but that they may have someone that could do the job.... yeah no thank you. Something's not quite right and since I was told they don't do transmission work I can't trust this. Who's this person that they may or may not know that may or may not be available for service? How is that anyway to treat a customer???? Naturally at this point I'm frustrated. So I declined and went and picked up the car. Never again with Skytop! I wouldn't have my lawnmower serviced there.

Matthew was very knowledgeable and experienced with my car and the type of work being done. When the work was finished, he provided a detailed record stating all the work that had been completed, along with the invoice. Parts and labor are also under warranty (much better than the dealer's warranty). My car hasn't driven this well in a long time...it feels like a new vehicle! No more car dealer. I can happily say that the car has performed admirably in that time (no small feat, given the notorious unreliability of JLR products). I can confidently say that I bought a gem. I live in MD and found the car online. I've bought used cars at a distance before (sometimes sight unseen), and as a car enthusiast I'm used to traveling when the right one pops up. This one matched the model/color/spec I wanted so, despite it being in CT, I reached out to Yara Motors and explained that I was interested. Initially, when I explained over the phone that I wasn't local, Wael - the owner of the dealership - was a little hesitant. Perhaps he's had poor experiences with out-of-state customers in the past. I understand. People are flaky. Nonetheless, I persevered, and he seemed reassured when I booked a flight to CT for two days later. I arrived to find a small, independent dealership stocked with used, low mileage luxury cars (Audi, BMW, Mercedes etc.) that appeared to be in nice condition. I spent an hour looking over the Rover myself, during which time I hooked it up to my OBD scanner to check for error codes (there were none) and chatted with Wael and his mechanic about the car's history. They were friendly and welcoming. The front suspension bushings had been replaced in preparation for the sale (they wear quickly on these heavy cars) and an alignment had been performed. The alloy wheels had more curb rash than I expected and the front tires, while within legal limits, were worn unevenly (likely as a result of the car being driven by its previous owner on worn suspension bushings). But otherwise the car was in mint condition. Even the original window sticker was still in the car along with the factory toolkit, manuals, and all-weather floor mats. Wael would not accept a lower amount for the car but, in his defense, he had priced it fairly already. I bought it on the spot, with Wael kindly driving me to the bank to collect the money order. My drive home was enjoyable and uneventful, and the car sailed through an MD state inspection right away. When I took it to my local Jag-LR indie mechanic for a lookover, he confirmed that I'd bought an excellent example. Since then, I've changed the oil and tires, obtained and programed a second remote key fob, and bought an additional set of wheels with winter tires. After my first oil change, I sent the used oil to Blackstone Labs for analysis. The report confirms that the engine is wearing in nicely, and all the readings are in spec. I'm very satisfied with my purchase and would definitely buy another car from Yara Motors again. Thanks Wael!
