The check-in was a breeze and the rooms were modern and well maintained with modern bath and comfortable bedding. Our refrigerator was not working properly and they replaced it efficiently. The onsite brewery/restaurant is quite good but you should also book a reservation there for dinner during busy season.

The hostel/cabins book months in advance, so don't come here expecting to find a room the same day. We made that mistake and were directed to the campsite instead. I have to admit, paying 225 krone (about $30) per night to pitch our tent on a random patch of grass was a disappointment, but you'd be hard-pressed to find anything cheaper in Flam, which is a major tourist destination. This place is in a solid location too, as it is about a 5-minute walk from the bus station. As far as campsites go, this one is very basic. There are water spouts, bathrooms with coin-op showers, a small communal kitchen, a playground for the kidlets, and coin-op laundry. Food options are a mini-store at the info desk and a food truck that comes at night. There are some broken wooden picnic tables to eat your food at, some covered by the pavilion and others uncovered. Bathrooms are clean enough. If I were to return to Flam, I would book a cabin way in advance, since it seemed to be an overall much nicer experience.

For 1300kr($173) Lars will take two people for about 90 minutes to go anywhere you want on his highspeed RIB boat...its kinda like being a roller coaster in the water, but lasting 90 minutes instead of 90 seconds. Its cold, thrilling, can be wet, and 110% AWESOME. Yes its not cheap, but if you're traveling to Balestrand Norway, you're probably in a decent financial situation. (Note: At time of this review, the US dollar was up 50% against the Norway kroner...$1 = 7.5kr vs $1 = 5kr just a couple years ago)

The public spaces look very nice, with what looks like a professionally designed lobby done in lovely Danish modern furniture; the artwork was really bad, but nice furniture. The rooms are seriously lacking in this level of care, however, and are pretty basic. The bed was fairly comfortable, but the bathroom was like an older, poorly maintained Motel 6/ Super 8 quality; cramped and uncomfortable, with a shower that didn't drain properly. The bedside tables have lamps, but there was nowhere to plug them in, and there are screws in the walls where perhaps artwork once hung, which adds to the sense of overall neglect. And you can hear everything from the surrounding rooms. The dinner we had in the hotel dining room was sub par. It's not the worst hotel I've stayed in, but I was hoping for more.
