In our contract/set up plan, they had written 250 chairs and stated they would be able to fit 10 guest per table, and that I could bring the banquet permit the day of the reception. 2 days before the wedding, they call me stating that they cannot fit 10 guests per table and that they could not have 250 guests in the venue. They also needed the banquet permit at least a week in advance. They were extremely rude over the phone and in person. Only provided 230 chairs, not the 250 they promised us. And continued to state that "i don't know who is telling you this information about the guest count and what not but that's not how we do it" . They never apologized for the inconvenience or anything. I explained we would have never booked with them if they could not do 250 guests. But they kept raising their voice repeating the same thing "I don't know what to tell you. That's not how we run things" . I would NEVER recommend this place. Ever. To anyone. As a daughter of a retired vet, it disappoints me that they would treat customers the way they treated me and my family the day of my wedding date. But since I have to have 1 star, I give it to the worker, Joe. He was the ONLY person who would help us get things done. Management was awful. But joe was awesome. Thank you Joe.

It is with great sadness that I update my 5 star review for Mattice Beauty Supply for what will…read moreprobably be the last time. Mattice was the epitome of the kind of small business that Yelp was allegedly built to support. As the only Black owned beauty supply store in Tacoma that was built with black women in mind (but like Mattice always said, was never exclusively for Black women- other folks need soap and shampoo and hair brushes too right?), Mattice Beauty Supply offered a variety of products without compromising on her integrity. You would never find anyyyy skin bleaching products there. If you were buying developer she was absolutely not letting you leave til you told her what you were going to do to your hair with it so she could make sure you weren't leaving with the wrong one and going to fry your hair. She and her employee Dorian always went above and beyond to help anyone who walked in that front door. She offered the community so much more than a beauty supply store- her community room hosted the widest variety of classes I have ever seen- from art to crochet to hair braiding, home repairs, cooking and letter writing to the incarcerated, she was there to support all sorts of community members in their small businesses. In the year since I first went to the store, Mattice has donated thousands towards kids and other local businesses and even those abroad. The store will likely be closing with her passing, but it will be open on Small Business Saturday (11/29/25) and if you have ever wanted a wig that didn't suck, this is the place to go. I currently own 11 of them from here, so I can vouch for the quality of all of them. If you are a Tacoma local, chances are some of your favorite local businesses are there in part because of Mattice's unwavering support for others. Thank you to the community business that unlike so many others never once used community as just a buzz word.

The Buffalo Soldiers Museum is definitely an overlooked museum in Tacoma and is definitely worth…read morechecking out. Admission is free which is always a plus! If you want to donate however you can by the front door. The Buffalo Soldiers is a term for African American cavalry soldiers. The term was given by Native Americans because these soldiers reminded them of the buffalo due to the fierce and brave nature which was often how the animal exhibited. This museum focuses on 9th and 10th cavalry regiments but the 24th and 25th Infantry Regiments. These regiments were involved in several wars. The American Indian Wars, Spanish-American War, Philippine-American War, Mexican Border War and World War 1 and World War 2. Other wars are mentioned at the museum as well like the Korean War. The museum is relatively small but there is a large amount of information and artifacts and the person that greeted us was very friendly and gave us lots of information which was great! I definitely recommend the Buffalo Soldier's Museum as there are lots of pieces and stories from American history here that is fascinating and educational!

Showing is about 45 minutes long and the room is dark but the lit up walls have enough lighting so you can see where you are going. Overall a neat experience but I was expecting more plant life and less of what seems to be an "acid trip", for lack of a better description, showing. It reminded me of the random colors/lights that Windows Media Player generated while playing music (shout out to you 90s kids). The interactions were enjoyable but in my honest opinion, may be better suited for kids and less technologically aware individuals. Then to learn that Luis Perez is a master Tango instructor with an abundance of patience cinched the deal. My husband and I are retired. We needed something to engage our minds and move our feet. It's been very beneficial for us to venture outside of our comfort zone, commit to learning something new, and challenge our cognitive abilities. Our adult kids are looking forward to our 'recital.'
