10/10 would recommend. but this school is definitely difficult. I can't express how much this is more of a warning than a review. The Houston location gave me an experience that was nothing short of horrendous and abysmal. Staff shut down free speech, they scorn at questions during class, and upper management calls you into long, private meetings as an unprofessional spook-tactic if you notice something amiss. Even if you just want to improve. If that is not enough to deter you, professors will pile on countless hours of work and not go over material: good luck on your exams because they'll pick the content they want even if it's never mentioned during a lecture. And, if that's not enough, professors are uneducated on basic anatomical principals to the point of frightening ignorance. This not only hurts students: it hurts the animals. It pains me to see how many others had this same exact experience. Save your money and your health and find alternate options. Any field going into medicine is stressful, but VTI makes sure you have the worst experience possible. read more

Ngl this school is trash , definitely racist & shows favoritism to certain students , some teachers are cool some are just like to hear their self talk the students are also messy. some teachers are super sarcastic when your asking genuine questions making you feel stupid & just over all rude. The program is undoubtedly rigorous, but the school does an excellent job of clearly communicating the accelerated nature of the curriculum from the very beginning. Husbandry is emphasized as early as the initial campus tour, even before submitting an application. As a mother of two who also works part time, adjusting to the demands of the program was certainly not the easiest transition I have ever made, but I genuinely felt supported by both the staff and my peers. I believe VTI effectively equips students for real-world experiences. While the fast-paced environment may not suit everyone, I have personally had no difficulty adapting. Once you progress beyond the first eight weeks and establish a steady routine, the curriculum no longer feels overwhelmingly fast paced. Moreover, the connections and friendships you build at VTI significantly enhance and shape your overall experience, fostering both academic success and personal growth. read more

I went here recently and also recently withdrew. This school is absolutely horrible. Crazy standards, no regards to personal schedules, and rude ass teachers. I was constantly stressed out to the point of deep depression. No one there cares about you. Not even your classmates. And do not get me started on husbandry. An absolute waste of time and puts pressure on the animals when these crazy people "care" for them. BEWARE MS SUNSHINE. She is NOT a ray of sunshine, what a use of a good name. She's rude, ignorant, inconsiderate, and did I mention kind of ugly? Any questions you have for her; she will just rudely say that you should have already known that instead of actually giving you an answer like a good teacher. So much is expected of you that it's honestly irrational. There is NO WAY anyone could EVER graduate here without some sort of extreme burnout or complete disassociation. Do not go here. Period. There are so many other MUCH better ways to achieve your goal of being a vet tech. Just not this way. read more

Ray springer is a very aggressive administrator. No one should think they hold the power to put others down when asking questions during the interview process. Once a question is answered it should be cleared and move on to the next question to better assist both parties in the process. Ray totally turned me off of the Houston location to attain my Vet Tech Program. Ray says it is only two administrators on staff and I see why. Time for a new face and larger faculty placed at this location. read more

The only things I do not like, or agree up, with regards to this school is..... "PROFESSIONALISM" -this includes everything from tardies, absences, using the toilet during lectures (regardless of the reason. If you take furosemide...you better have a strong bladder! I seriously doubt students leave the lecture to "catch a break" or bunk off, giving the high expense we pay to attend the school!), ensuring your cell phone is silenced during lectures (mistakes are made but unforgiven and some teachers will not even listen to you.), to sheer pickiness such as making sure you have filled out one of those American bubble exam slips correctly. If you write the wrong group number (even if you have not been told what this is), points are deducted from your grade. I have a problem with points being taken from my paper simply because I got the date wrong or for any other form of pettiness that takes away from a grade deserved through hard study. Its unfair and unnecessary. If the school insist on grading us on how professional we act, then, please, treat us like adults. Some, NOT ALL, of the teachers tend to treat us like dummys/kids and I think this is because most, if not all, of the teachers are VTIH alumni. Maybe they had a rough time, but why repeat the same mistakes your former teachers did? One would have thought they would WANT to be an inspiration to their students. The staff is a very small body made up of approx. 7 teachers. So, if you don't get along with one--you are screwed. I guarantee that the raw relationship you have will reflect negatively upon your grade. Just because this is a condensed program--please do not speak to us as fast as you can to ensure that YOU are on track with your syllabus. Accept questions and be prepared to answer. Mrs. Kat is awesome and doesn't shove material down your throat at a ridiculous rate. If anyone does have an issue with a teacher--Ms Huff is always willing to help and is a fantastic instructor and program director. There are two classes you must pass to continue with the second half of semester 1: Medical Terminology and Animal Behavior. Due to absences, they failed me on Animal Behavior and as for Medical Terminology, I failed that myself. The material was slowly becoming easier to me and I feel it was unfair to have been withdrawn from the program just because I failed this class. The school were unwilling to work with me, but more than happy to take my money, which neither I or my family appreciated. We really thought something could have been worked out, given my circumstances. I'm still giving the school 3 stars because I learnt a lot in the short time I spent there. I plan to continue at Lone Star. Giving that I'm already a LVA, I plan to work as well, which I will now have time for, so this may have been a good thing that happened to me. read more

I'm currently attending vet tech and love all the hands on work they do with us students.

The program itself is great. You learn more than what is necessary for your typical vet hospital setting and the hands on experience is exceptional. However, the schedule is very unforgiving and they do not work with you if you have a job or a family. When it's your husbandry week, you're literally forced to show up to school at 4 am sharp and must stay late until about 430 or 5pm, which makes for an exhausting 12 hour day. You're punished academically if you miss for any reason. Even though you pay 30 grand for your education, the cost of the state and national tests are not included in the tuition so that's an out of pocket expense you should anticipate upon graduation. These tests are required in order to become licensed and make any kind of livable wages. Overall, I would strongly suggest just working your way up in a clinic and getting your training that way. The pay as a vet tech is pitiful and again, for the amount of student loans you end up with it just isn't worth it. Get a job as a kennel tech and help out the technicians to gain some knowledge and then apply for a tech position when one becomes available at your clinic (trust me, the turn around in vet med is crazy high and a tech position is always available). I am working with a graduate of the school. Her level of knowledge is horrendous. I wonder what they teach. Also she refuses to call a pet by name or pet them to soothe them - She seems to dislike pets. She can not draw blood, insert catheters, or do any basic tech jobs. She has no initiative to see what needs to be done and prefers to sit all day. She refuses to do what is asked of her by her superiors and unwilling to learn "tricks" of the trade offered by veterinarians stating that is not what she learned. I wonder what this school teaches! I definitely let prospective students know not to attend this school. Other colleagues also have this opinion of this school an prefer graduates of well established tech schools. read more

This curriculum is beyond necessary strict. It is completely unforgiving and not worth your investment. Please believe that. You can get a much better, in depth, and fair education at a place like a community college like Lone Star College. If you were late for any reasonable excuse, they would give you penalties that were irreparable. You are warned in advance that it is an expedited program and you must study plenty, which is fine right? But not if you have a family you need to take care of or have any other life complications of any sort. Even if they are out of the blue. They are extremely unreasonable and unforgiving. I don't believe this place should continue to operate anymore. At all. You barely get a grasp and remember what you're learning. I'm an A student and I made A's while here but it was not worth it. I didn't finish the program because of all the flaws I saw in this place. I left within the first 3 weeks. Don't do it. They just want your money. read more

I personally hope this place goes out of business soon.. there are some teachers in there who are condescending, very impatient, and rude. A classmate and I dropped within the first few weeks while we were making A's and very few B's. We have high standards for ourselves, and yet this place does not seem to have interest of the quality of education the students learn. There's a certain rate and time that a student needs in order to truly learn and grasp what it is they are learning and this place does not hold up to that standard. Plenty of students in there drop quickly, or later. They are all extremely stressed out of their minds trying to make time to study to make either a passing grade or an A. Even if they DO have all the time they need, they barely make it or don't at all. Please don't DON'T get your education from this place. There are better colleges who aren't a private institute and only care about your money and you will have professors who care, take the time to explain things much better, and are more respectful to their students. There was one professor who teaches the freeman at VTI who was so rude to her students and she was a bit on the heavier end (not to judge) and white.. she had dark brown hair. She was just unpleasant. I understand being firm with your students is sometimes necessary but she was extremely impatient and unforgiving. Don't waste your money and come here. The learning environment here is so toxic that there's blatant animosity between the students and faculty. When we have valid complaints about how things are run, we're talked down to, shut down, or ignored. Equipment is regularly sub par (by the teachers' admission) and/or broken, mold is in the basement, there's a cesspool of giardia on the loading lock outside of the basement (and yes, students have gotten sick from this before) and you'd think with each student paying ~$30,000 each, they would set that money aside to help the program. Nope, enrichment items come out of the coordinator's pocket, fundraisers come out of the pockets of the students running them, and we are not told where any money raised is going to. Your personal life doesn't mean anything to this school. You were in the ER and missed an assignment? Well you should have been studying (and this is not an exaggeration). You have a child and you have to miss school for doctor's appointments and such? You're getting points off your overall grade. You were late because you're in husbandry and six dogs decided to make a mess in their kennels right when you were about to clock out? Too bad, you're in trouble and everyone's getting a pop quiz. You were late to class because you to do your chore and somehow find a place to eat? Tough, "that's not an excuse." They don't care about their students. We regularly get each other sick because of this, and yet the teachers love saying it's somehow OUR fault that we got them sick. Any personal circumstances and trials are treated as our fault. Professionalism points can be taken off for any reason and they won't be given back. You could go to the bathroom during one of your very short and few breaks, still have a bathroom emergency and still get professionalism points off for "distracting the classes." You could have someone talking to you in class, you ignore them and try listening to the teacher, and still have professionalism points taken off (also a true story). On the other hand, you can have students who blatantly break rules yet have no consequences because the teachers like them better. Keep in mind that this is a school for adults and we are being treated like children. In addition, some (not all) of the teachers are bullies. There's no other way to put it. They act in such a way that students are too scared to fess up to a mistake or answer/ask questions in class, even though we're students! Of course we won't know everything! Also, don't bother going to the administration about this either; any "compromise" reached will heavily favor the teacher. We do have "evaluations" given at the end of each term to critique the teachers, but nothing is ever done about any critiques we have. The administration says they read them, but if they did, there would be changes implemented. In conclusion, this school had better start taking responsibility for their shortcomings and mistakes, or else their future is going to be in trouble. And to anyone who is thinking of attending this school, don't. read more

They take up ur time and money. Parking is a pain, because the newbies get to park in the parking garage on the top floor. You have to wear scrubs of your class and have to pay to wear a different scrubs on a certain day.
