We recently went to Bay Aquatic Park specifically for their night glow swimming that's offered a few times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 6pm-9:30pm. Our group and others around us asked the lifeguards when the lights would turn on since it was after 8:30 and the lights were still not on and the park closed at 9:30. We were told they weren't sure, but likely soon. Around 9pm we heard over the intercom that they were closing the pool due to low visibility so that was the end of our night. It was disappointing since we drove up from Northern Colorado to experience their night glow swimming that we've seen on social media and we didn't get to experience it. Other than that, it was a good experience and we would swim here again.

Their lack of desire or ability to be reasonable and accommodating in their policies would not be successful in a competitive market. If they were to get another job, I would recommend to them the IRS or the DMV, where they could arrive on their first day of work, fully trained in the principles of not providing logical and reasonably accommodating treatment of their customers.

We have also been here as a family during the summer and the pool is lovely. You would want to come early and get a nice shady spot because they will be taken up fast. My kiddo had to do a swimming test to use the diving board in the summer and she failed both times so she had to stay in the larger shallower end of the pool. I appreciated their dedication to safety.

The wave pool is kind of cool however it is pretty narrow, and they allow kids to be extra rambunctious in there, which makes it more of a danger than anything. Multiple times I've been there, the lap pool has been closed, which has a rock climbing wall, which maybe could be cool but again it's always been closed. It's the only pool deeper than 3 1/2 feet. They have a small lazy river which could be fun however all kids have to be in a tube and that's just not for everyone. There's a sign on the locker room that says little boys six and under aren't allowed in the women's restroom... Maybe people are fine with that but my six-year-old son is too small to be alone. Also, the biggest turn off is that you have to pay even if you aren't swimming. My kids are smaller and so obviously need a parent, but I don't need to be in the water with them, and you still have to pay, regardless, which is just annoying and kind of a rip off. It's just not where I would choose again.

We found an empty court and began a simple singles game--nothing disruptive, just enjoying the space that was clearly available. The courts are first come first serve per the Thornton Rec Center Employees and website. Moments later, an older woman came over and rudely told us that singles play wasn't allowed and we needed to play doubles. Not only was her tone unnecessarily harsh, but she insisted it was a "rule," despite there being no signage or clear policy anywhere stating that singles games were prohibited. If there is an empty court, people should be able to play how they want. The courts are supposed to be first come, first serve, but it seems like a group of older regulars have taken it upon themselves to control who plays, how, and when. It felt more like we were intruding on their private club than participating in a community activity at a public facility. We're all for shared use and following actual posted rules, but this kind of gatekeeping is exactly what drives new players and younger participants away. It was a really disappointing and unwelcoming experience. They need to make it so these courts are reserved. Otherwise the other facilities are great! There is tennis courts, bocce ball , a splash pad, horseshoe pits and great walking paths.

Tied in with the City of Thornton Recreation Facilities, I discovered the Park Village Pool at the…read morebeginning of the summer after checking out the City website, wondering if there were any others pools in the area similar to the one located on 95th Avenue that I'd ridden by so many times, but never bothered checking out due to the fact that it always seemed overcrowded, in addition to it having a lot of waterslides and those giant dumping watering cans and mega buckets and what not for little kids. Turns out that Park Village Pool is within walking distance of my residence, so it's been a great place to trek to, as the heat's been insane this summer. An initial $5 fee will get you registered in the system and you're given small, medium and large ID cards that make you eligible for resident rates at any of the City's facilities if you're a Thornton resident, although it's pretty much open to anyone. Modest $2.75 per day resident rate, and I believe season passes are available for around $75. Nonresident/public rates run a bit higher. A big plus is that it's located right in front of the RTD Route 92 bus line. Lots of grassy, shaded and non-concrete areas, and there appears to be a separate wading pool for little kids. Very friendly staff members and lifeguards, and never a problem getting a chair. I think they've got some planned activities throughout the week, as I accidentally showed up an hour before the open swim period began one day earlier in the summer, walking smack dab into the middle of a senior citizens water aerobics/synchronized swimming class! lol Hot showers in the locker room, which appears to be very well maintained. Several diving platforms, and the lap lane ropes are cranked out quite frequently. Only downers are that there's almost always at least one little unruly, punk ass kid in the crowd spoiling everyone's ride, with parents that either stay silent or aren't around, but that's to be expected at a facility like this. I still think I was a lot better off here than at the 95th Avenue pool. Also, they'll close for the day if there's even a remote chance of rain in the forecast, as I got skunked on a couple of sessions, both being when the sun was out full bore - the place was locked up tight. It seems like a lot of business gets wasted that way. The telephone number is a voice recording/info line, so you can't really call ahead to verify if they're open or not. Definitely the nicest public pool I've been to for the most part, keep up the great work!

Considering its in the middle of a busy city and literally right next to a highway, this is a…read morepretty peaceful little "beach." A bit of sand, a splashy river, a couple baby trees providing a liiiittle bit of shade, a hot dog stand a short trot away, plenty of room for picnics... It's a tiny piece of the great outdoors -- and you can see Starbucks across the street. This space was pretty crowded on a Saturday. Lots of kiddos and dogs swimming in the river (which feels sooooo good). More families line the tiny shore than couples or river sports-doers. We brought a nice little picnic, towels, bad magazines so we could celebrity-stalk, and a portable speaker for some beachy weekend tunes. I get real lazy on any beach; kayaking and rafting aren't really for me, but you can totally get athletic if you want. The beach is very clean and small, the sand a bit rocky, and the water cold and shallow. I can see myself spending many a summer day here.. sunbathing (wear sunscreen!), picnicking, and people watching. The best!!

My kids loved the fountain play area, lazy river and water slides, dad loves the lap pool and hot tub. There's a nice variety of paid and "free" classes for both kids and adults, as well as community activities and access to physical therapists and personal trainers. I'm an amateur kettlebell sport athlete and use the facility 4-5 times per week. The staff is generally friendly, helpful and accommodating, they keep things reasonably clean and in good repair and they have a wide variety of cardio equipment, free weights and weight machines to choose from. It can get crowded evenings and weekends, but there's seldom a long wait for equipment. I love ending my workout in the steam room or sauna and a nice hot shower before I head to work. I've had memberships at chain and franchise gyms as well as private gyms. If you're self-motivated and have your own training plan, this is a great budget-friendly option! So grateful to have access to this great facility supported by our community!!
