The varied offerings stir emotions as you move from room to room and boast painting as well as three dimensional artwork. I love that you can wander and view at your own pace as you move through the gallery. The exhibits display local artists' work and cover a broad range of perspectives and styles. Even if you only utilize this event as a gallery viewing, the cost is well worth it. The creativity of some people is mind-blowing. There were dozens (hundreds? I'm not great at estimating numbers) of booths of all kinds of media, including painting/drawing/visual, jewelry, sculpture, and more. I purchased a coffee mug from an artist whose designs were inspired by the events of 9/11 and technique was derived from Ancient Greece. I also purchased a necklace from an artist whose techniques included some from Korean tradition that melded together gold and silver. Truly beautiful. These items were evidently made with great care and quality materials. I felt that the prices were extremely reasonable. There are several activities within the Art Connection that would be fun for children and are included in the cost of entrance. My friend and I stopped by the Amor booth and made beaded bracelets. There are food vendors in and around the Art Connection, but the lines were quite long! All in all, would recommend, and the weather was perfect this year!

There were local folks displaying their wares in addition to regional and even national folks. I attend a fair amount of "craft festivals", but this was beyond that in level of quality. Our work group did a team building event at Activate. We had a ball!…read more This venue is located in Park South Plaza on Highway 31 in Vestavia Hills, next to Taziki's. Our manager paid for us to play 60 minutes. Before we went, we had to complete a waiver online and choose our game name. There were restrooms inside where you could change clothes (cause I heard if you are competitive, you would sweat a lot). They also have lockers - activated by a wrist key fob - so you could put your purse and keys somewhere safe. It's a dark area full of arcade rooms (maybe about 10 or 12 rooms in total). Each room has several games from which you can choose to play. Our group of 12 people were split into 3 teams of 4. The front desk attendant gave us all a wrist fob that we had to activate with our game account. The attendant explained how to play. Choose the game, all players scan their fob, then wait until the current team playing in the room exits before you go in. Scores are based on how well you do. If there is no one waiting outside the room after the game completes, you can move to the next level and continue playing. My team's first couple of games went so wrong and we questioned ourselves and our lives many times while playing. However, we got the hang of it and enjoyed ourselves so much! My favorite game was in the "Grid" room, where they called a color and the team had 5 seconds to get to a space with that color. So fun! If you are looking for a fun place to "be a kid again", this is the place to go!

It's a tradition, and we always meet interesting people (tonight we just happened to have painted with Shelby County's Delta Sigma Theta chapter). Cool art teacher with a fun personality and a healthy love for cats. No right or wrong or pressure to be perfect. Just let your creativity shine and have fun.

I attended a disability fashion centered experience titled "Every Body Blooms." Sponsored by NCHPAD, UAB Arts In Medicine. This was such a beautiful fashion show showcasing the confidence of the models and their creativity in fashion. One model remarked that "When you look good, you feel good." I would encourage everyone to follow NCHPAD to learn more about the disabled community and how they adapt to the abled body society. Again, this is a wonderful venue. I'll be back for other shows and performances.

Highly recommend attending a show here if you get the opportunity. Parking was tough since I was running late but that was to be expected. Locating street parking is NEVER fun or easy! I ended up parking in a student lot ... no problems since the event was on a Sunday. My car wasn't towed! Ha! I go to Pepper Place regularly & it's a better mix/balance... farm fresh veggies, pastries, art, jewelry, a number of food trucks, etc. & it's FREE to enter. Mt. Laurel even has a better balance/variety of vendors & it's FREE. Will stick w/the free ones
