Our work group did a team building event at Activate. We had a ball! This venue is located in Park South Plaza on Highway 31 in Vestavia Hills, next to Taziki's. Our manager paid for us to play 60 minutes. Before we went, we had to complete a waiver online and choose our game name. There were restrooms inside where you could change clothes (cause I heard if you are competitive, you would sweat a lot). They also have lockers - activated by a wrist key fob - so you could put your purse and keys somewhere safe. It's a dark area full of arcade rooms (maybe about 10 or 12 rooms in total). Each room has several games from which you can choose to play. Our group of 12 people were split into 3 teams of 4. The front desk attendant gave us all a wrist fob that we had to activate with our game account. The attendant explained how to play. Choose the game, all players scan their fob, then wait until the current team playing in the room exits before you go in. Scores are based on how well you do. If there is no one waiting outside the room after the game completes, you can move to the next level and continue playing. My team's first couple of games went so wrong and we questioned ourselves and our lives many times while playing. However, we got the hang of it and enjoyed ourselves so much! My favorite game was in the "Grid" room, where they called a color and the team had 5 seconds to get to a space with that color. So fun! Oh my gosh, so fun! Went with my 27 and 20 year olds. We had a blast. I reserved our time ahead of time which was nice. They also take walk ins if they have availability. I got a 10 percent off coupon code online. When you get there you check in at the front desk. They give you a wrist band that you can use for a locker if you need one. Lockers are free. Each person also gets a wrist band to play. First time players register at the kiosk. We were then taken into the gaming area and given instructions then we were free to get playing! There are several rooms, each with about 5 different games. One is a basketball room with different games. You can get directions for each game outside the room. Once you pick the game, you each scan your wrist band, press start and enter the room. The games have different levels. You can choose to go to the next level or exit the room. The games have a moderate level of activity which gets harder as you pass the levels. Water fountains are located outside the rooms near the bathroom. You will need them. Play is for 75 minutes which was plenty of time for us. After you turn your wrist band in you are given a keychain you can scan the next time and it will have your gaming info from previous play. I enjoy a place where I can bring out the inner child in me and this place definitely allowed me to do just that lol. I discovered this place about 2 months ago but finally made it my point make a reservation. Activate was a workout and in the best way possible! We went here with another couple for a date night. We weren't sure what to expect but the Activate staff was great! They were informative and very kind. This is a great place for kids or adults. They have games that you can work together as a team or competitively against each other. If you love competitive, interactive games then make sure you stop by Activate ! When I say this place will remind you if you are in shape or not... whew!! We came here as a team building exercise and we definitely bonded (lol). We played all sorts of games from basketball to hide and seek (lol) to jumping on colored squares. This place is for all ages and could also be great for date night. Just remember to wear closed toe shoes and athletic wear and get ready to sweat and you'll do just fine. They have different levels from easy to hard so don't feel like you have to be in shape to have a great time. The staff was super nice and patient with us as they were explaining how Activate works and the place was super clean. And for us to get there early, it was quite a few people there, so keep that in mind when trying to determine what time to go. But they have so many rooms that we only had to wait for a few minutes to play a game. I hope Activate opens in different cities across the state so other people can experience how much fun we had. This place is so much fun!!! I would definitely recommend it for all ages (kids may need to be with an adult for some games though). Everything is well put together and there are so many game options for each room and different puzzles. Its around $20 for the week and $25 for the weekend which is very reasonable. They give you lockers and you also have to sign a waiver before you go in. You are given a wristband that allows you in to each game and it automatically keeps score for you that is presented on a screen out in the lobby area.
