While previously it served the military here, the fort itself is long gone and the building now falls under the non-profit umbrella of Arts for Lawrence. Arts for Lawrence acquired the building in 2016 and began some pretty significant renovations including new technologies, film capabilities, cosmetic upgrades, and a building addition. The building can be used for both movies and stage performances and is actively used for both. Indy-based Heartland Film recently moved into the Fort Ben area (in the Sterrett Center) and often utilizes this theater including for its current holiday movie series. Accessibility has greatly improved under Arts for Lawrence (fantastic non-profit), though there are obviously limits given the age of the building. As a general rule, attending events here should be no problem for those, like myself, with mobility issues. There's parking right across from the building. I'm not sure about the seating capacity here, though it's a relatively intimate setting with probably no more than a couple hundred seats. The theatre itself is close to several nearby restaurants and it's easy to make attending an event here a date night. Fort Harrison State Park is also less than five minutes away!
