A beautiful, cozy, historic theater which appears to be a hidden gem in the heart of Fort Ben. It has a very intimate feel due to the size of the space, but I thought that made the experience more enjoyable. The environment was lovely, great seating (every seat yields a great view), and the chairs were very comfy. Nice!!

This was my first time coming here to see a play, so I was looking forward to the performance. It has been a long time since I have seen a play at a local community theater, so this was a treat for me. The play did not disappoint me at all. The actors did a wonderful job with the performance. The play is based on a Broadway musical, and it had a little bit of everything from singing to acting with different skits throughout the play. I was laughing and even crying a little bit throughout the play. Mud Creek Players is a great venue in Indianapolis that offers community theater plays and sketches for entertainment. The interior is definitely like an old style stage and theater with a concession stand in the front. All proceeds from the concession stand sales go towards a foundation for the theater. It is a very nice venue and the staff are wonderful and friendly. The play was excellent and entertaining like I said earlier, and it was worth the ticket price of $20. I'm glad I was able to see a play here at Mud Creek Players, and will definitely come back here again to see a play because it was great entertainment for a Saturday afternoon. So glad Indy has culture available to us!

The audience was seated either at tables or were free to sit on the grass. Several groups brought blankets to spread out with some bringing food to eat while they watched the performance. It was a great low key performance. Although tickets were free they did need to be reserved in advance. And donations are accepted which I didn't realize until a friend noticed a small sign and basket on the way out. So if you go and enjoy the performance I'm sure donations are most welcome.

Every attention to detail was seen in the costumes, the set was awesome, the actors were flawless with beautiful voices, and a wonderful live orchestra provided the music. Good news travels fast - every show was a sellout. The venue seating is nicely tiered so there is not a bad seat in the house. Very reasonable priced refreshments are available for purchase and there is plenty of parking. Keep an eye out for the entrance sign, it's tricky to spot. I have been here 50 times over the years for various shows, including some plays that my granddaughters have been in, and have volunteered to usher. The local talent is always top notch. Buck Creek Players is a not-for-profit organization, run by volunteers, and they are are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year.Buckcreekplayers.com accepts donations online, offer internship programs and memberships, and have an exciting new season coming up!

Unless you were looking for it, like me, you might not know of it's existence! I went to see Little Women musical and the cast did a wonderful job. Even though I have seen the story many times I was still drawn in to the story. The actors played their parts well and left me laughing several times. I followed my GPS to take me there and once I got off the interstate I noticed a few small signs to direct me further. Make sure you pay attention to where the turn is into the Theater. There is a sign, but my GPS did want to take me a tad further on the road. The building sits alone and just looks like a warehouse. There was plenty of parking and no traffic to get there. The surroundings inside were comfortable as well. They do have a small selection of snacks if you want some thing to munch on during the performance. The seats were comfortable and they offered one intermission. The cost of the performance was $20 which was very reasonable. You can purchase your ticket online and show them your ticket electronically. When I arrived at the ticket counter they were very organized and I just had to give them my name. This was their 48th season in production and it appears like they perform Six shows in the season. I will definitely be bookmarking this place to go back for the next season

LOVE Broadway in Indy, but I want to offer a warning regarding Clowes, specifically the box seats…read more Previously Clowes was our favorite venue for Broadway in Indy. We have box seats but they recently "upgraded" the boxes. The "upgrades" on the seats have ruined the experience almost completely. They added plexiglass at the railing between the viewer and the stage so that you get a glare from the walkway lighting. But the bigger issue is that the seams and top of the plexiglass prefectly obscure/block your line of sight to the stage. On our side of the theater (left), you either have to lean over and bend down to the right to see below the top and to the side of the seam OR lean over and almost stand up to the left to see over the top and around the seam. And then there is the fact that you are a live event and having to watch it through a window, which renders the live experience moot. It's horrible, so much so that I'm glad we only have two more shows there this season. If you are attending any events at Clowes, absolutely do NOT buy a seat in a box. They are among the most expensive tickets and are now basically obstructed view seats not anywhere near worth the money you're going to pay. I am not sure what engineer or architect thought this plan was a good one, but I feel confident they never watched a show with the present setup. If I want to watch an event through plexiglass I'll watch hockey. If we renew our Broadway tickets next year, we'll be moving to different seats if the setup is the same, but this has actually made us question renewing at all.

I've been blessed to see Les Mis, The Lion King and School of Rock, all of which, were completely life-changing. Seriously! The set in Les Mis was beyond stellar, the costumes in The Lion King were creative beyond belief, and the children in School of Rock were nonstop the whole show - playing their own instruments and doing stellar choreography. (By the end of School of Rock, the whole audience was clapping to the beat and laughing with their rows - so fun). For a Broadway show, the prices are good. No, they're not cheap, but the talent, staging, costumes and more that you'll be witnessing deserves the ticket prices. PS: Drinks/concessions will be expensive so eat before you go!

I visited Hendricks Live to see a children's play. I should say, the venue is officially called Hendricks Live! With an exclamation mark. As a rule, my fingers will not let me type any word or phrase containing extraneous punctuation. So, henceforth, I will be writing Hendricks Live without an exclamation. I really like that they let you eat inside the theatre. I mean, I didn't eat in there, but I like that they give you the option. They have a concession stand with things like frosted cookies, popcorn, candy, wine, beer and soft drinks. The seats have cup holders. The theatre seems relatively new and well-taken-care-of. The seats were comfy, and even though my son, who is on the shorter side, sat in back of two adults, he could still see the stage. The people who scanned our digital tickets and showed us to our seats were very friendly. The whole experience was pleasant, and we had a nice time at the theatre.

Everyone was dressed up and excited for the show. Many of the little girls in attendance appeared to be wearing their Easter dresses. It was really fun to see. The door attendants that were checking our tickets were eager to help and pointed out the entrance doors and restrooms upon our arrival. Concessions were open and running smoothly. The gentleman that assisted us was kind, upbeat and helpful. When I asked about their cider offerings, he happily bounced over to the fridge and grabbed the two that they had and gave me his personal recommendation. My husband asked about the butteriness (a word I made up, apparently) of the popcorn, and he was honest with his feedback. In addition to the cider and popcorn, they also had a nice selection of beer, wine and spirits as well as candy. The volunteers were stationed outside of the theater entrances until 6pm, when the doors opened. One of the gentlemen had his picture up in the lobby as "Volunteer of the Year". I felt honored to be in his presence! There isn't a bad seat in the entire theater. If you attend a show here, I wouldn't worry too much about where you sit. The volunteers were actively walking around and offering booster seats to the children. I thought that was pretty awesome. The show itself was very community theater-esque. It was cute and whimsical and made for a fun night out, but the set design and story delivery were very amateur. For what we paid, it was a decent value. I will read more closely when booking in the future. Reading is fundamental folks, and the listing on Fever stated that the show consisted of 6 local dancers. There just wasn't enough going on to maintain my interest, but that is definitely a personal issue. My husband really enjoyed the show and athleticism displayed by the dancers. Maleficent was my favorite dancer. Her moves were, quite literally, on point!

Started as a non-profit in 2006, Arts for Lawrence is the largest non-profit arts organization in Lawrence and Indy's northeast quadrant. The organization serves as the steward for the historic Theater at the Fort and offers a remarkably diverse array of affordable arts programs at Theater at the Fort, Fort Ben Cultural Campus, and the Visual Arts Campus. VERY often, these activities are provided at no charge to the community. This was the case for this past weekend's Shakespeare at the Fort: A Midsummer Night's Dream directed by longtime Indy radio personality Matthew Socey. At one point, I was contemplating placing a memorial for children lost to violence in the Fort Ben area - It was Arts for Lawrence that responded and had some dialogue about the idea. Essentially, I've found the organization pretty amazingly responsive when it comes to exploring ideas for creatively improving the lives of Lawrence residents. The musical chairs at Fort Ben? Arts for Lawrence is behind this wonderful, family-friendly installation operating daily from 9am-10pm. (I do agree with some who've observed it would have been ideal to include at least one accessible swing). The Fort Ben Cultural Campus as launched in 2021 with the former Fort Harrison Communications Building moved to the campus and re-established as a Visual Arts Center with monthly exhibitions, a ceramics studio offering classes for all ages and abilities, and upstairs area offering additional classes. Programs include festivals, theater performances, outdoor concert series, art classes, art exhibitions, poetry readings, and more. Food trucks often appear at outdoor events. Being right by Lawrence's City Hall, this area seems to have become a central locale for many of the City's sponsored community activities. Arts for Lawrence also has a strong equity statement on their website indicating a desire to ensure that arts programming is accessible to all. The Visual Arts Center is now open from 6-9pm daily and during festivals. Additional features include the Sterrett Center, Marching Sidewalk, Lawrence's public art, the amphitheater, and an app offering AR/VR experiences. Arts for Lawrence only assumed stewardship of Theater at the Fort in 2016. They began a vigorous upgrading of the 1929 theater and while it's certainly not perfectly accessible (what 1929 building is?), it's dramatically improved and there's an attitude of access. As a city, Lawrence fairly recently established a commission on disability. It took me quite a while to realize that many of the activities I attend here in the Fort Ben area fall under the umbrella of Arts for Lawrence. I'd imagine it will only improve once the currently under construction Fort Ben branch of the Indianapolis Public Library is completed. There's so much to love here and Arts for Lawrence is behind much of it and they've become a guiding player in the growing Lawrence arts scene. With friendly people, great events, and opportunities for all, I'm definitely a fan of Arts for Lawrence.

The venue feels small, but still fits an audience of 100+. The staff are always so friendly and do a good job of guiding you where to go. The restrooms are always clean as well. Plan extra time just in case!
