The Margery Gallogly Nature Sanctuary is 145 acres of private forest that, instead of being…read moredeveloped, has been acquired by the Western New York Land Conservancy and is now open to the public. There is a loop trail and a spur, which together added to a little more than 1.5 miles long. Some of the trail is on a raised boardwalk because the area can be wet and the trail is not open to dogs. Signage does say that snowshoes and cross-country skiing are permitted. The forest is lovely, especially now with the autumn colors taking over. Although it was dry when I visited, a nice big frog greeted me along the path and reminded me that the area is a wetland area. There were a few families with young children visiting. Other than negotiating the boardwalk, it is an nice easy hike for kids. The nature sanctuary is easy to reach. The trailhead is in the back corner of Assumption Cemetery and there is a small parking lot for visitors.

The park has a basketball court as well as a tennis court . You will usually see a few people fishing in the pond (you will also see many geese-this is their hangout). The playground area is loved by my grandchildren and the splash pad is really cute and has kept the kids cool on many days during this hot summer. This is a clean, well maintained park . If I had a preference, I would prefer a few more shaded/tree covered areas in the park , but if you love the sun and don't need any more shade than what the individual shelters provide-this is a great place .

I was very pleased at how clear the sand was, perhaps they are using some kind of equipment to get the rocks and wood off the beach because unlike other freshwater beaches I didn't have an obstacle course to get to the water. The road within the park could use a lot more than temporary tar and a shovel of stuff that does NOT stay long before the potholes return. They should do it correctly and right, when they consider the crowds that frolic and play here. There isn't even true permanent bathroom facilities here till last year sometime, when temporary facilities were installed. A lot of investment and work is needed here before the park sinks into the sunset. Park is closed after sunset so don't even think of coming here to enjoy the Milky Way or meteor showers, etc. Police will come chase you off.

I stopped by to get information about tours and attractions, and she was absolutely wonderful from the moment I spoke with her. Gigi was friendly, bubbly, patient, and extremely helpful. She took the time to explain the different attractions thoroughly and helped me strategize what to see and when to see it based on the weather, my schedule, and the amount of time I had available. She did not just hand me information; she helped me make a plan. She also assisted with reserving my tours and clearly explained how to catch the bus, how to get around, and how to navigate the area. Since I was traveling alone, her kindness and guidance made a big difference. She made the experience feel much easier and much more enjoyable. I followed her suggestions and went on the tours and attractions she recommended, and they were amazing. I truly appreciate her friendliness, professionalism, and willingness to help.
