Niawanda Park is my go-to place to find peace in this hustle bustle world of ours. I love to watch the boats, the ducks, the birds, the dogs on dog walks with their owners and especially breathe the wonderful summer air. It's a refreshing place to go for some Zen time. It's a bonus that Mississippi Muds and Old Man River are nearby for refreshments and a hot dog or a hamburger or a delicious Italian sausage with peppers and onions and don't forget the sweet potato fries with butter! It's a delight of Western New York and especially Niagara County. read more

We started our bike ride on the Shoreline Trail at this park. There is plenty of parking, including a lot set aside just for boaters. There are also a lot of benches, a set of restrooms, a small stage, and plenty of room to spread out on the grass even if it's a narrow park. There is no playground if you have little kids, but it's a short ride or walk to other parks along the trail that do. This stretch of the trail looks updated. The lines appear freshly painted and the surface is smooth. There's also Mississippi Mudd across the street for food and snacks like burgers, hot dogs, drinks, and ice cream. read more

This park is such a beautiful spot on the shore of the Niagara River. The sunsets here are amazing! There's room for walking, biking, roller blading, or just sitting on a bench people watching. There is even a spot to launch a boat. Parking isn't usually a problem here. There are two spots to grab a bite across the street from the park. The latest updates are a charging station and a bike repair station. Occasionally the BPO plays in the band shell here, which is such a treat. read more

Nice park to go sit and reflect by the water. You can be as social or antisocial as you want when picking your spot. I picked antisocial. I wanted peace to just hear the water. I found a secluded overlook area with a few benches. I needed to sit, bad knees. Boat traffic, jetskiers, water fowl and the occasional bicyclists or walker my only company. That's the Radisson. That was my first thought as we stopped here one day. This park has a clear view of the Raddison on Grand Island. This park is on part of where the Niagara River splits around Grand Island. Tons of activity here. Dog walkers, runners, baby strollers. Plenty of picnic tables. read more

The amount of stars this review receives depends entirely on when you go. If you're one of those people that goes out on the middle of a summer Saturday, your experience is probably getting docked a star, as the crowds make it hard to avoid the goose poop as you try not to run into other pedestrians. If you're me, and you're doing this at six am on a chilly Tuesday, it'll probably just be you and the fuzzy figure you can't make out in the near dark who is equally suspicious of you as you follow them down the trail. Okay, maybe that was just me, and thankfully with the forks in the paths to get closer to the river, I shook this mystery figure. The paint dividing the path is still vibrant, clearly marking where bicyclists should drive, like a split roadway. The pedestrians only get one lane to share, regardless of direction. That's always minorly irked me, but it's nothing a brief sidestep can't fix. I did the stretch from Tops to the Grand Island Bridge, which for any walking enthusiast, is enough to get your blood pumping. For the less enthused, there are many benches along the way. You could also perch yourself on the riverside and enjoy the beautiful view up close to watch the boats and ducks float by. Or, if you really want to do this right, nab a seat on the swing at the playground, provided there's no young'uns calling dibs first. If you're in it for the long haul, you can relieve yourself in one of the bathrooms stationed along the way. The toilet paper is way too sheer, but the sink actually has water that stays on (unlike other offenders with those wretched push for a ten second rush of water faucets that I've seen elsewhere) and the hand dryer actually does a good job of drying your hands. (Yes, I've also faced hand dryers that hardly dry, so this is worth the mention.) The path goes past the bridge, but even I have my limits. So I just circled back and enjoyed the multitude of dogs headed my way, because if you come out here, you'll see plenty. Time your walk right, and you'll get the five star experience. Or don't be me, and be a people person and keep that extra star on your summer Saturday stroll. Just don't forget the ice cream. read more

I often think in philosophical terms. Is the end of the world nigh? If the end is nigh, I wonder how people will react when they ultimately realize this? This concept, which I call "nigh, I wonder", is what this park is named after. I was at this park just a few weeks ago when we went to Suzy Q's BBQ. I was here this past winter, too. I've probably been here 20 times or more. Even though it's nowhere near my house, I absolutely love the view from here, across the river, to Canada. It's absolutely gorgeous, especially at sunset. As has been said before, it's one of the most beautiful places in Western NY. It's an incredible place for a romantic date, or for lewd public exposure, and it's a wonderful spot for summer stroll or picnic. At some times of year there are bugs aplenty down here, but not often since the weather in WNY is so mild. Across the water, you can see Grand Island with lots of boats sailing by in the wide channel. These beautiful waters are just a few miles from Niagara Falls, and so at some point soon, they will all be cascading over the edge into the Gorge, which is a fun thought as you sit or stroll or expose yourself here and enjoy the scenery. It's the heart and soul and pride of the Tonawandas, and if you have never been to Niawanda Park, you're missing out. It's so lovely that, if you are visiting the area, or know somebody who is, it's well worth telling them to pay a trip to this park to experience its beauty. And if the end of the world is Nigh, I wonder if this will be one of my final memories of this earth. And if the end is Nigh, I'll wander along this beautiful river bank on the final day. This is a great park. If you're coming up from Buffalo it is mostly tucked down along the left hand side, a thin looooong strip with excellent views of the water. One of the highlights for me is the bike trail- the Seaway Trail runs right through the park and offers a few miles of walking or cycling. I love looking for the Plank-Man, which is this post sticking out of the rocks that is seasonally decorated. Niawanda Park is one of my favorite places to watch 4th of July fireworks. The way they reflect over the water is stunning and Tonawanda puts on a good length show! It's also very easy to pop across the street to grab some ice cream or a hot dog, though I personally love to picnic at one of the many tables available. Also, a hidden gem, as it is literally hidden from the road is the Niawanda Park Pavilion, a fully equipped hall. There is a full kitchen, air conditioning, bathrooms, tables, and chairs, and the town offers the hall at a very reasonable rate. I highly recommend the hall for events. read more

When it's warm outside I love coming here to rollerblade along the greenway. It's so long-it can even get you to the south grand island bridge which is a beautiful view by the way. There are "lanes" for pedestrians and bikers which is pretty thoughtful and I'm always glad to see people on the trail. It's a great place to bike, walk, run, or skate. The views at sunset are to die for and the parking is easy enough to find. This is a pretty stellar park in the area and I wish more people spent time here. read more

Beautiful park on the water. Absolutely breathtaking. Although I live in the southtowns, I have been to Niawanda several times because we don't have anything like it in the southtowns. The park isn't what you typically think of when you think of a park - there are no soccer goals, no tennis courts, etc. Its a really long path next to the river. The park is ideal for walkers, runners, rollerbladers and bikers. It's always busy! There are many restaurants down the strip that you can enjoy while watching the view. My friends and I love to come here to play Pokemon Go. I also love to bring my dogs here! The facilities are clean and there are bathrooms available on both ends of the path. Great park! read more

Picnic tables, benches, and even charging stations are scattered through the park, but sometimes it's nice to just sit on the large rocks that line the edge of the water. Niawanda Park is probably the best place to get the most gorgeous view of the water. Be it a post-dinner walk, a ride along their bike path, or even a lunch picnic (I've done all three!), Niawanda Park is seriously my favorite place to enjoy some fantastic scenery and spend time with the people you love. (Too cheesy?) There are a couple of picnic tables in the park, benches where you can sit and relax, and plenty of trees for shade. You're bound to spot geese and ducks along the way! The park also has a nice pavilion with a stage, where they'll host a variety of shows and musicians - I've seen youth musicals and bands play here a number of times. Plenty of space to bring a blanket or a folding chair and enjoy. What's super cool is you can also launch a boat from one of the parking lots. Sometimes it's hard to describe how beautiful a park can be - and it's the same case here. I don't know what it is but I'm consistently mesmerized by Niawanda's sights! Niawanda Park is a great area along the Niagara River. It's good for walking, running, rollerblading, and relaxing. I came here today for a long walk. I first found out about this place while training for a marathon two years ago with friends. That's when I discovered the plank man or whatever he's called. It's a small piece of wood, with eyebrows and a smile. Someone decorates him for every season. I got so excited when I saw him, while on my walk today. Also, there are two phone charging stations at Niawanda Park now. I thought that was really neat!!! There were many people there exercising today but I came at a time where it wasn't too busy so it was easy to follow social distancing. I usually park across from Mississippi Mudd's but I forgot about that entrance today. I used the entrance just before that one. It's at a traffic signal too. There is an awesome Veteran's Memorial here with engraved names of people who have served who lived in Tonawanda. I took a few photos of it. It's really nice. Oh, just before leaving the park, if you're heading towards Billygan's Cafe, there are two free little libraries where you can take a book or leave a book. They are really pretty. I'd like to return to go to Mississippi Mudd's and maybe see a sunset or two. read more

This park is beautiful, expansive, easy to get to, and full of different stops along the way. There are playgrounds for the kids and easy access to stones for those who like to collect them for crafts. There are fishing areas with recycling containers for fishing wire, phone charging stations, free libraries for kids and adults, and of course Old Man River and Mississippi Mudds for ice cream and a hot dog. It's never too crowded and you can always find a bench to sit at, or even a large rock along the water to read at. Very peaceful with waves and blue water. read more

We went for a picnic and Saturday walk at Niawanda Park. It was nice to sit by the water while enjoying our lunch. The Shoreline Trail runs right through the park along the river and is lined with lanes for both bicycles and those walking. After our lunch we had a nice walk. On this walk it was easily noticeable that this park is well maintained and clean. Everyone we encountered appeared to be enjoying the park and respecting the amenities. Litter was almost non existent. One surprising item we seen was that there are solar powered charging stations for cellphones. These chargers are designed to accommodate both Android and iPhones. People were observed fishing, biking, walking, lounging on the grass, launching boats and walking dogs. Several benches are conveniently located along the river. Located conveniently across from the park are two very popular restaurants, Mississippi Muds and Old Man River. Even though we had lunch temptation found us getting some clams. This park is definitely a great location to spend an afternoon and enjoy the outdoors. read more

This is an amazing park in an amazing area. This park is one of the best ones to visit during the summer. You can sit on the water and relax in the sun or in the shade which ever you see fit. They have plenty of places to set up shop and just relax and read a book or go for a jog. There is actually a lot to do over there as there are restaurants, a small amphitheater where they do plays, shows, yoga and other fun events. They have small little fairs there from time to time where you can check out some local wares too. On the 4th of July you can go down and sit at the water and watch the fire works across the river but you would need to get there early because it does fill up. They have a huge bike path if you like to ride or skate. They do have plenty of places to throw out garbage and they also have public bathrooms which is a plus. They ever built a little inside pavilion you can book for parties and it is really nice in there I have been to a few events there myself. Also to all you Pokemon Goers this is a great place with many stops, gyms, and a wide verity of Pokemon! read more

Years ago my fiance (then boyfriend) took me to this park during my first spring in Buffalo. It was really nice, a good bike ride away from my apartment in Amherst and there was ice cream. All good qualities for a park! Since that first trip we have revisited a few times, but the most memorable was July 2011. My man had been planning a picnic for us at the park. He even went shopping to acquire the food, which is very unlike him! It was a positively gorgeous day and this park is a great place for a picnic. We enjoyed our sandwiches and snacks and then got an ice cream cone and started walking along the path, enjoying the views of the river. We settled in at a picnic bench a little ways down the path. Then, before I knew it, he was down on one knee asking me the big question! He could barely finish before I said YES! Of course. I loved this park from my first visit, but now it holds an even more special place in my heart. A solid five stars, all around! read more

Niawanda Park is a beautiful little park in Tonawanda along the Niagara River. I come here to sit on the rocks, eat ice cream, go for walks and to enjoy romantic sunsets. There's also a boat dock and fishing pier that you can use if you have a permit, but I've never had the occasion. This park is simply a bit of trail along the river (with picnic tables and benches scattered throughout), but the views here are spectacular and worth making the drive from the city for. Wonderful destination to get away from city life and even enjoy some of the great restaurants nearby (Dwyers Pub has wings that rival Duff's / Anchorbar). There's plenty of people-watching you can do here and it's a great place to bring a date! read more

Beautiful! The trail is for both cyclists and walkers/runners; there's a pain divide down the center. It runs along the water which is just beautiful, so you'll come across the occasional fisher or boat launch pad. There are also plenty of stops for bathroom breaks and lots of opportunities for pictures and stopping for a bite to eat. There are also lots of parking lots along the path to choose from. It's a perfect park for anyone looking to stretch they're legs, snap some pictures, and overall just enjoy the sunshine in Buffalo in the city! It's several miles long, and you can deviate from the path in certain noted places to make your ride/run longer. read more

Rollerblading or biking on the bike trail is so much fun! I wouldn't go during sand fly season because they are everywhere, but once they are gone, it is very nice. I will ride my bike from Niawanda Park all the way down to Canalside and back and it is a really nice ride. If you are going to make the trip by bike, I would go during the day. The one bridge that you need to cross to stay on the path is a government bridge and closes and locks around 8 pm. read more

This is a great park to enjoy walking along the beautiful upper Niagara River. I especially enjoy coming here, grabbing an ice cream from Mississippi Mudds and taking a nice long walk on the trail along the river. Theres loads of green space to sit and take in the view and the trail stretches all the way into Buffalo making for a heck of a walk, bike ride, or roller blading area. Be warned, some people are less than attentive/rude on this path so be careful not to crash into anybody. During warmer months this place is packed with people but there's still always a place to enjoy here. There are a lot of benches and bathrooms available throughout the park which stretches a good distance along the river. Oh! and don't forget the road by the park is 25mph and the police officers are very strict about it. Lastly, if you're heading north on Niagara street DO NOT make a left into the parking lot across the street from Mississippi Mudds or you'll earn yourself a lovely traffic violation ticket. read more

Niawanda Park is close to home, a beautiful spot that stretches beyond the park limits. Today my boyfriend and I rode our bikes the length of the bike path to the Grand Island bridge. There were plenty of people having picnics, walking dogs, or just enjoying nature. We also saw a group of people doing yoga next to the river. There were even tons of rollerbladers which totally made us want to break out our old blades. Nothing can beat a quality bike path next to the river! Mississippi Mudds and Old Man River are also right next to the park. Both great places for food and ice cream! read more
