The team here is so nice! My 5 year old Samoyed has had stomach issues her whole life and needs to eat every few hours to avoid acid build up. Recently, she threw up blood on our evening walk and I called the clinic panicked. They gave us a thorough review of all our options without pressuring us for a full exam.. which is quite expensive.. The vet and techs gave her an injection to suppress vomiting as well as a medication to coat her stomach. She's also quite a picky eater so the team there gave us a few cans of plain food. It's been a few days now and she is back to 100%, normal poops and appetite. No throw ups. I'm so grateful for their guidance and availability. I think the quick response to suppress the vomiting and coat her stomach really helped her heal and prevent any further issues. Best ER vet experience ever. You can see from the moment you walk in that the team is passionate about what they do. They have snacks and drinks to choose from if there is a wait or you get hungry. The doctor was fantastic and walked us through every step of the plan and helped us make the most informed decision. They let you stay with your pet the entire time and never take them away from you. I waited a small amount of time but because it is an open concept hospital I could see the other pets that came in that needed more immediate attention than my own. Our dog had ripped off part of a claw. It was a Saturday night on a holiday weekend, and he'd been in pain for five hours because there were no ER vets in Summit County and we got stuck on I-70 traffic. The staff at VEG was so kind. After a long day, it was wonderful to walk into a clean facility and get taken care of right away. They were very skillful and the claw was removed and bandaged without a problem. VEG is the absolute best. When our local emergency vet was overloaded with unfortunate cases, we called VEG to see if we could bring our dog in for suspected respiratory infection -- the one that was circulating quite rampantly recently. They were accepting patients so we made the 20min trip to get my little guy checked out. One thing that was quite unique is that they're an open-room vet (minus the X-ray room). It was nice knowing that I could look over and see what they're doing with my dog, whereas other vets "take them to the back" and you play the was-that-my-dog's-yelp mental game. Even though it was late in the evening, they weren't busy at all and I want to say we were in and out in roughly 30-40mins. It was a ridiculously quick visit. Fortunately, the diagnosis was not the respiratory virus, but they prescribed a med to keep the kennel cough-like symptoms at bay. Within a week, my dog's coughing and bubbly breathing was gone. Overall, I'm super pleased with the quick service, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and cleanliness of the facility. read more

The experience at VEG was amazing. I liked VEG immediately; firstly because of the "open" philosophy and initial phone consult with director Dr.David Israel. Everyone was so courteous. The greatest care and kindness was shown to my puppy. The doctors included us at each decision. Everyone at VEG is fantastic; interns, vet techs and doctors. Dr. Geiger, Dr. Brian Jones, vet techs: Eli, Rowan, all whose name I didn't catch during this emergency. Our puppy was very ill. The team at VEG worked to keep my puppy stable while working tirelessly to figure out what was causing the array of symptoms. In the end, he was transferred to Wheatridge Animal Speciality Hospital. I have lived in Boulder for 13 years and knew when VEG opened because it's located in one of our central shopping centers; we had been using a different ER practice, and only on the recommendation of our primary vet did we head over to VEG. Literally the minute I walked in I asked myself why I wasn't told about this place before, why I wasn't told that their standard of care is a complete game changer for the industry. The whole thing felt like a Twilight Zone experience. You walk in and go right into "the back", the triage section that only your stressed out pet gets to see because you're stuck in the waiting room or a crappy small treatment room with no air flow. They probably should take video of people's faces as they are allowed to just walk in here and how open and welcoming it is. Your pet is seen *immediately*, assessed by their staff while admin comes up with a laptop and gets your information. I truly can't say enough about how strangely amazing it is to feel like you're walking into how modern veterinary medicine should be practiced after being in the dark ages for so long. You stay with your pet the entire time. I carried my Pug into the x-ray room and placed her on the table; while she was being administered medication, I could hold her; while waiting for the diagnostic results to come back, they let us know how long it was expected to take and brought a blanket. I wanted to grab her small bed from the car and they happily held her while I ran outside. When I sat on the floor to be closer to her, they brought me a "floor chair." You know how in the nicest restaurants you can drop your napkin and another one is being placed in your lap in mere seconds? That's what this was like. Past that, the staff were so friendly and kind and truly seemed like they loved their jobs and LOVED animals. A few other "patients" came in during our hour there and everyone was treated exactly the same. I don't know if I've ever before left a business and felt better about humanity. It was a strange experience in the best possible way, and you'd be crazy to take your animal anywhere else. read more

They are amazing when it comes to helping out but if you are a college student I would not recommend coming here they are so expensive more expensive than a regular vet just to be seen and checked is 185$ I was able to get meds and liquids and be seen for less than that at other vets in surrounding areas of Boulder. Obviously if it's an emergency in the middle of the night this is your best bet since they are open but if you have other options and would like to save your money I would look elsewhere. I rushed my pet rat here at 3 in the morning because he was having trouble breathing. I was a complete mess because I thought I was gonna lose my fur baby. It turns out he wasn't as sick as I thought. They took excellent care of him, even though he bit one of the vet techs. They calmed me down and got him some meds. Even though the vet on call isn't an expert in rats, she was actively doing research to make sure he got the best care possible. I tried them again last night when our dog had uncontrolled diarrhea. I would just be careful to review all the estimates and ask questions before checking out. They gave me a supplement, psyllium-husk powder that sells for $10 on Amazon and charged me $171 for it. I was never told the cost of this up front, they just listed it in the original estimate as miscellaneous. I only found out exactly what it was for after I got the invoice emailed to me. On a positive note, I did contact them the next morning and they did admit they made a mistake and issued a refund. read more

This is my 5th visit to VEG in Boulder with 5 different dogs. Every visit, I am always so happy! They are so far above most vets with their customer service and patient care model... The dogs don't even realize they are at the vet most of the time. The place is so chill. Depressed (but not freaked out) dogs & cats lounging with their parents throughout the exam and during most minor treatments. I have only had my dogs taken away from me to get Radiographs or while in actual surgery. The rest of the time, they are hanging out next to me on a bed or blanket on the floor. The aninal handling skills of the techs and nurses and vets are overall far better than any Vet Clinic I have ever been to (dozens). Love this place and I hope it's always available to us in an emergency! read more

This is a top notch emergency clinic. My dog had to be hospitalized here last year, and she's had some recurring health issues that have required potential emergency treatment. Veg was amazing with her, kind, compassionate, and they're even set up to allow you to stay with your pet during these scary events. And most important of all, their standard of care is absolutely top notch. Their vets are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and guided me through information that my primary vet never mentioned. last July I had the best experience bringing my dog in. Great experience at a very reasonable price. I called a different vet first and they told me my dog may have been exposed to blue-green algae and that they didn't have availability but I should bring him in somewhere because he needed to be put on fluids right away. I walked in V.E.G. worried and walked out happy and content with a healthy pup. They were calm, competent, and efficient. They answered all my questions and were able to treat my dogs mysterious symptoms. (it was not what the other vet had said) Today I called a different vet to ask if I should bring my dog in and they were unable to give me an answer as well as didn't have availability. I called V.E.G. and they not only were they able to walk me through any reason my dog may be experiencing the symptoms he is but they gave me suggestions for things to do at home. The group here is extremely calm and competent and from here forward they will be my first call (hopefully I don't have to call at all:). Thank you! read more

Before a holiday weekend, my dog had a suspected UTI. My regular vet was not answering their phones and was unable to get in anywhere else since I was not an established patient. The staff at VEG were awesome! Super kind, informative, and so gentle with my pup. Best of all, they do not whisk your animal away to some behind the scenes area. I was able to stay with my pup the entire time to help keep her calm. (Worth noting the place was unbelievably clean too.) Hope you never need them, but so glad they are there! read more

This place is truly a life saver. No pun intended. I have a dog with chronic reoccurring pneumonia so I have had to take him here twice now. Always super friendly and he is taken care of immediately. The thing that stands out to me the most is their open, one room setup. They allow you to be right beside your pet the entire way through treatment. This helps a lot of pets and owners feel more at ease about an already stressful event. They will charge you a max, high end estimate before treatment is finished so that you are not charged more unexpectedly should things take a turn. This means that you will often get at least a third of your payment back afterwards when the correct bill is drawn up. This may be a little hard for most to put down upfront. But I do at least like knowing I have paid the absolute most I will be expected to, and no unexpected charges will come up during the treatment process. They also have a program to help those who may not be able to afford care obtain what they need. Both times I have left, everyone knows my boy's name! read more

Had to bring my kitty Minerva in after a potential lily exposure. This was obviously super stressful for me, but everyone at VEG made it as good of an experience as possible. Minerva is extremely spicy (tortitude) and everyone handled her with such care and expertise. I also loved that I got to stay with her for the ~24 hours that she was hospitalized (they have beds!), and when her IV kept getting tangled on the bed they put together a little floor bed in an exam room for me so that we could stay together. We interacted with a lot of folks during the day that she was there and the following two days for follow up bloodwork and everyone (4 vets, a whole bunch of nurses, and the front desk staff) was so sweet and kind and constantly making sure I was fed and hydrated as well as taking care of Minerva. I was especially impressed that they involved me in her care where possible and I was able to be with her for a lot of stuff that vets tend to do "in the back". I'm so glad our random panicked calling around led us to VEG and, while Minerva probably wouldn't agree, I'm so grateful for the care we recieved there. read more

I'd went to many Emergency Vet. places both in Boulder, Longmont and Louisville. This place is awesome. My elderly dog had fallen onto his back. He already has a neck issue. He was acting very strange. took him here and 1st off they got us in to have Vet. see him within 10 min. Plus she could have done like most places Id went to. Automatically prescribe high cost testing. Basically didn't need X-rays and it was because he was in shock that he'd acted that way. Came out of apt. not charged astronomical amount. Everyone was so professional, caring and very efficient. We were there on a Friday night at 10:30. They also did a follow up call. Everyone very caring. I'd highly recommend this place. read more

I took my dog to VEG in Boulder early morning because of a burst abscess in his anal gland that was bleeding and very painful. During the anesthetized procedure, Dr. Sidhu left to talk to a woman in the open doorway next to me who had been in another room with a dog. The woman monitoring my dog was trying to get her attention to come back and finish the procedure. Another tech had to go over and get her. During the procedure, Dr. Sidhu repeatedly mentioned how "tricky" it was to find his right anal gland opening, resulting in excessive prodding and poking making an already reddened and sore area worse. I should note that while Dr. Sidhu stepped away from the procedure, a tech for a brief time poked and prodded in that area as well without success to clean the gland. One of the woman who worked at VEG went to talk to that same woman as Dr. Sidhu did in the other room, came out, looked at me, and said "code 666." Later that evening, I called questioning my dog's condition. Dr. Sidhu said to bring him back and how the exam would be free, as if cost for a followup was a factor for me. I declined because of the care that my dog received from her and the tech who also poked and prodded without success in Dr. Sidhu's absence. I took my dog to another emergency care in a different city who had no problem finding the gland opening and provided quality care and needed followup. VEG is not an emergency facility that I recommend, not even to someone I dislike. They may think they're being transparent by having people sit on a couch in the same room that they do multiple procedures, but it is also an opportunity for the pet's loved ones to see poor and questionable quality of care and their priorities during a procedure to chat with others on seemingly non-urgent matters. It is also unsanitary and increases infection if the people who don't work there and are waiting or walking in and out of the procedure room who may be sick. Save yourself and your animal pain and heartache and go somewhere else!! read more

We had a great experience with our visit there today! My dog got a fish hook caught in him and they let me stay with him the entire time and were able to take him right away. They took his vitals and comforted him and were very friendly and personable to me. Doctor was able to get it out pretty quickly and virtually painlessly.
