I am so happy I did my research and found this place! My fur baby had a tumor on her throat/neck area and our vet recommended we take her to blue pearl. I looked at the reviews for blue pearl and they were not good, found out later that our vet was affiliated with them so that made sense why they recommended I take her there. Anyway, I read the reviews for Veterinary Surgical Specialists and they were great!!! When we arrived the staff was so nice to me and to sweet to our fur baby. Everyone from the people at the front desk, to the doctors who took care of her. So appreciative of them. They made us feel comfortable and we knew she was in good hands. They were able to fully remove the tumor, she healed perfectly and has gained 10lbs since her surgery! Thank you guys for all that you do! It's obvious to see that you guys enjoy what you do!! What an amazing experience during a stressful time! My American Staffordshire Terrier ruptured her CCL right before her second birthday and watching her not be able to be a "puppy" was awful. We saw Dr. Hay and booked her surgery for 3 weeks later. The entire process was made so easy by his entire staff. My 2 year old shih tzu had her luxating patella fixed by dr Thomas. I found this place on my own as my vet wanted to do it himself, but I was more comfortable going to a specialist so it is done right and she heals the best she can. Dr Thomas was very kind and I had no issues leaving my dog there overnight they answered my few calls and gave me updates on how she was doing. She is five weeks post-op and doing better than I would have expected this early on I am extremely happy with her progress thus far. She was more expensive than if I were to have got it done through my regular vet, but well worth it for someone who is very well versed in this type of surgery read more

Took my dog for a consultation yesterday and seen dr Thomas who was EXTREMELY informative and nice and explained everything to us that needed to be done! Blue pearl lied to me about what surgery my dog needed and was going to charge me 7,000 to do both knees on my dog and dr.thomas said only the left knee needed to be done right away still costing me way less!!! Only $2,100!!! Dr.thomas is amazing!! P.S. My dog just got out of surgery today and they took the next most excellent care of her I couldn't be more pleased with their professionalism and honesty and care they have provided. read more

Our vet referred us to Dr. Thomas when our Great Dane needed thyroid cancer surgery. They fit us in quickly and everyone was so nice and professional. We were given an estimate with low and high amounts and we were charged the lower amount. Dr. Thomas did a wonderful job with our girl and you can barely tell she was operated on. We brought our two french bulldogs back a few years later to do soft palate and nares surgery and again she did a wonderful job with both dogs. Dr. Callum Hay and VSS were wonderful to work with for our dog's surgery. The surgery was to remove a tumor in a difficult location. Dr. Hay removed it completely without complications. He was wonderful with our dog Hank knowing he was anxious and they focused on his needs throughout the process. Dr. Hay put us at ease about anesthesia, medicines, pain pills, and the overnight stay by answered all our questions during the initial consultation. Also, the VSS staff was extremely helpful anytime we called, which happened to be multiple times overnight to check on Hank. On top of all this the staff was friendly and welcoming and they followed up with us multiple times after surgery to ensure he was healing properly. Additionally, the price of surgery was very fair and included the X-rays, medicines, pain pills, and follow up appointments, which made us content knowing there was only one cost. I can't say enough about Dr. Hay and his team and am so grateful for all they have done for Hank!! read more

Our vet referred is for surgery for our dog's knees. She spoke very highly of this group and I can definitely understand why. We wanted to make sure we sought more than one opinion, and this was our second opinion. First and foremost, the staff and Dr. Hay are absolutely wonderful. They are very kind and made us feel at ease with deciding to go through with the surgery. The price was completely reasonable. We were also scheduled quickly for the consult, as well as the surgery. My husband and I both work in the medical field, so bedside manner is important to us, even if it's for our pet. Dr. Hay personally called after the surgery to provide an update. Our dog had to stay the night and they have staff 24/7 caring for the animals. That was very comforting for us, especially because you can call anytime during the night for an update. (I'm honestly surprised I didn't call every two hours--I'm THAT pet mom...but we were very confident our dog was in the best care possible.) I was reffered to Veterinary Surgical Services by our primary veternarian after my two year old German Shepherd tore her ACL. We called their clinic and we're immediately squeezed in to be seen by the doctor. We arrived and were pleased to see a very clean and welcoming hospital. This of course comforted me far more than it ever did Betty (the German Shepherd). The staff at the front were very kind, considerate, and attentive. We soon saw Dr Hay's for a consultation and examination, who later ended up performing her surgery. The surgery was very reasonably priced and clear surgical instructions were given ahead of time. I was very pleased with the time that the doctor and his staff took to give me status updates on her surgery and progress aftwards. I have no doubt she was in the BEST hands. I visited Veterinary Surgical Services today for a consultation and anticipated leaving my dog there for disc surgery. The staff at the front desk were so friendly and helpful when I called and explained their policy to me regarding payment for services. Because of the cost of the surgery, they require half up front and half at the time of pick up. I had my consultation with Dr. Thomas and the tech, Heather. From the beginning, Heather left something to be desired as far as customer interaction. I of course asked plenty of questions during my consultation, as anyone would, including if they offered any in house financing. Dr. Thomas explained that they used to offer payment plans, but after getting shafted many times, they no longer offer them. Being a property manager for a large apartment community, I told her I completely understood their position. I told her I wanted to go ahead with the surgery, and would pay half of the $2900-$3500 as I was quoted on the phone. She and Heather left and said they would return with paperwork. When Heather returned, she said the doctor was now requiring $3000 down instead of half. I told her that was not what I was told on the phone, and that it was "shitty" that I was told one thing on the phone and something different once I got there. Her demeanor and facial expressions (which included rolling her eyes) clearly showed she had an attitude and was not genuinely interested in helping me, but only saw me as dollar signs. I asked if the change in price had anything to do with the fact that I asked about payment plans and she said "well yes, that did raise some red flags!" At that point I asked her to have someone else come talk to me. She left and returned about 15 minutes later and said she spoke with the doctor and they would be able to do the surgery with $2900 instead of $3000. How insulting. Even if they offered the surgery for free, I would have never left my dog in the care of such insensitive and uncompassionate people. I was not asking for a discount or anything for free, I just asked a simple question. The lack of professionalism and respect that I was shown was shocking and unacceptable. I have 8 dogs, all rescues, and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had with any vet. My experience here could have been very different had they not pulled a "bait and switch" and treated me as a potential valued customer. read more
