Because of this, I brought in a large donation: six large trash bags of clothes and two grocery bags of shoes and additional clothes, all in excellent, ready-to-wear condition. Unfortunately, the experience when I arrived was disheartening. When I arrived it was unclear where to leave my donations since there were multiple tents set up. They didn't acknowledge me as I was standing there waiting for them to put their phones down. They were entirely focused on taking photos for Instagram. When they finally acknowledged me, I kindly asked for assistance and they very rudely just pointed toward a shopping cart and told me to use that and continued yapping about posting on social media. Mind you, they were just standing there on their phones since I arrived. I needed help lifting the heavy bags since I am petite. It felt dismissive and disrespectful. I left feeling really bummed that this was the "community support" I was met with after going out of my way (from Chula Vista) to bring good quality items. I still have a lot more clothes to donate, but based on this experience, I'll be looking for another organization that is willing to lend a hand when asked instead of being extremely rude and dismissive.

While some were out of my budget or would have required alterations I wasn't willing to do, I ended up finding the perfect dress--already my size, needing little to no alterations, and within my budget. We were honestly amazed. I also really appreciated that they offer to hold a dress for a short period of time (either a few hours or up to a day). When you're making a big purchase decision--especially since the dresses are final sale--it's refreshing and reassuring to see a business that encourages you not to rush. It felt honest and thoughtful, not like they were just trying to make a quick sale. The only downside was the fitting room lighting. It isn't very flattering and doesn't show well on camera, which makes it hard if you're FaceTiming family or friends for a second opinion. I'd recommend stepping toward the front of the store near the window for better lighting. As a suggestion to the store, improving the fitting room lighting would make a huge difference and would also allow customers to feel more comfortable without having to walk to the front of the shop or be visible from outside. Overall, though, it was truly a great experience, and I would absolutely recommend this store.

A mandatory "Class" took place at the Public Authority Office in Santa Ana, CA on July 26, 2024. It was given by "Maria", a rep of the IHSS office. A Direct Deposit form was passed out to all attendees and we were told, at that time, to fill it out and turn it in order to get paid as care givers. Some attendees raised their hands to ask questions (I was one of them). "Maria" explained she was only given a few minutes and we would have the opportunity to have questions answered afterwords. Her assitstant collected our forms then, AND ONLY THEN they showed a video about the UDW and what it is like to be a member. Once I realized that this video was unrelated to being a Care-giver, I raised my hand again. In the background I could hear another attendee getting heated with the rep as she quickly walked out. My questions were not answered. Her presentation ended and she left abruptly. We were called up to another representative of the IHSS to approve our additional forms required by the Public Authority Office. I asked the representative awaiting me if I had to be sign up as a UDW member in order to be a care-giver for my ill roommate. "April" said it was NOT a requirement. I questioned her as to the direct deposit form that was turned in. She explained that payment will be sent through to state controller's office. She pointed to a white board on the wall with a phone number of the Union of Domestic Workers and said to call it for questions. "April" was abrupt and unfriendly.I have since sent the required form to opt-out and a personal note to the UDW representative in Southern Cal, David Moore, stating my desire to cancel my unwanted membership and to refund the fees taken out of my IHSS paychecks. There has been no action or response to date.
