This is the absolute WORST facility in town to rent for an event. We had the misfortune of hosting…read moreour wedding reception here and I wish I could go back in time and go somewhere else. The managers are thieves, negligent and and racist. Anthony Roybal met with me a couple weeks before to go over the details of renting and he hand wrote a "contract" on scratch paper and took my deposit in cash only. He informed us that the biggest rule was we could not have outside drinks in the venue for the night of the reception and I agreed to abide. During the rehearsal dinner someone had purchased a small case of bottled water for the bridal party and shortly after our rehearsal began I got a call from Anthony. Before I could even answer the phone he was screaming and cursing at me about the water. He said that he would come down the bar and personally "kick every single ass out of there" and he didn't give a "fuck" that it was the night before our wedding. He made me cry and berated me for almost 20 minutes the night before my own wedding. During the reception he was over serving alcohol, did not even know drink ingredients, and served to a minor. I do not believe he is a licensed bartender and should not be allowed to serve any event. We had an African American friend walk into the bar with my groom and as they entered Anthony proclaimed "sorry we don't serve bananas in here." My husband said he was in absolute disbelief that he would actually say something like that. He was incredibly rude to my brother who ordered and liquid marijuana and Anthony asked what was in it and when my brother said "you're the bartender, shouldn't you know?" Anthony replied "you should fucking know what you're drinking" At the end of the reception he stole $150 from my mom. Our contract stated we owed $400 for the rental fee and he charged her $450 and then proceeded to tell her that there was a $100 bar fee that he could only accept in cash. This was never mentioned or written in our contract. When asked to return the money he said he didn't have it and I'm guessing that's why he wanted cash only. When I reached out to the other managers Adam and Miguel I was met with "deal with your issues with Anthony" and then ignored. I never got my $150 back that was stolen from my mom and we were never even given an apology for the absolutely horrible service to me as the bride and to my guests and family. NEVER EVER HOST AN EVENT HERE

Updated after 5 years of playing in the kickball and dodgeball leagues. Overall, Clubwaka in Abq is…read morepretty clutch. I don't feel there is enough variety of activities for the young professionals in Albuquerque. That said, if you want to get away from the gym, work, life stress, and spend time making friends in a boozy fraternity like atmosphere then this is the right scene for you. It's a great forum for meeting lots of people (if in kickball, it's mostly for drinking and less athletic, with dodgeball it's inverse to that), with a range of interests including drinking, hooking up, and being somewhat athletic (aka glory days). Kickball is great for fun times and making you curse more in a game than you have in a year when your 'fun' team gets crushed by the competitive teams. Dodgeball is crazy competitive and exhilarating in its own way...but the drinks don't flow as much, at least til after the games. Both these leagues, plus the others, reward membership with a T-shirt and 2 open bars (mid and end season parties). Overall for $70 it's a great way to get away to college life again, just be sure to keep your day to day on the DL. No ones got time for your adulting.

Playing ball in this league definitely had its fun moments. However, the peer-based reffing system…read morelends itself to a pretty obvious bias toward inner-circle kickballers who have been around the league a while. If you're part of the "in crowd" calls get made in your favor, and if you're a newbie team or a less than "elite" team, there's really nothing you can do about it. It's also pretty obvious that the league's leadership wants to be well liked by the cool kids because they simply pretend like none of this is going on and any feedback or constructive criticism of the structure falls on deaf ears. Kickball is fun, don't get me wrong, but way too many people in this league think it's all there is to life. You'll find out quickly enough just how awesome their mad kickball skills are because they will let you know constantly...even in the rec/beginner league. If you're looking for a fun, relaxed way to play with people who like kickball, but have a life outside of it...I'd look elsewhere. After more than 5 seasons, I'll be looking for a new league to play in and so will my team. :)

No apologies, just condescending attitude. The only rationale is that since everyone involved was white, we are not. How can an organization such as this be so blatantly disrespectful? I asked for help, they disrespect. I am poor, not subhuman!

I've been involved and volunteered in some of United Way's work in the previous cities I lived in…read morebut had recently started volunteering at United Way to help low-mid income families file their taxes via the IRS' Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. I had to say, I really found the work they do really well run, meaningful and fulfilling. The organization allowed low-mid income families that needed help filing their taxes...so that they could get the refund money back in their pockets. The programs themselves are very well run by both the staff and are also joined by a kind group of volunteers who are certified by IRS to help the communities file their taxes. I'd say...the work the organization gives to the community (for free) is worth $250 a filing..and in total, the team does put millions of tax refund dollars back in the pockets of those in the communities! So, I have a lot of respect of what this organization does. Check out the work that United Way does...and if you are interested in volunteering/helping out with income taxes, they organization has formal training and can help get you certified. Else, if you know of families in need of help for tax filing, ask them to check out the free help that United Way does....or....perhaps even check out other activities that United Way does for the community.
