It's not cheaper than any other car service as it was when it began years ago. Drivers are sleepy and hit on customers!! The drivers are lazy and will leave you waiting up to 10mins even in a private ride. But won't even find you when you're waiting outside, and simply leave. Meanwhile via will charge you 3$ for those kinds of mistakes. I've gotten stuck in the rain waiting for 10mins and I've gotten stuck in dangerous neighborhoods at night waiting in corners for the via to arrive LATE! I've been left at my doorstep at 5am and gotten late to work because of Via! I've had to take a regular cab after all the effort of waiting and looking for the driver never to be found AND had to pay their "late fee". ARGH!! Updated 12/9/2010 I used to be like, "Uber? Who is she?" No. Use Via and you'll get a luxury car for $5. Well, cue the All in the Family theme, "Those were the days". I'm writing this ticked off because I have now had two Via drivers who couldn't speak English. Fine and dandy, but find a way to communicate with passengers. Google Translate. Case 1: The driver went past my drop off. I asked him to confirm my name. He didn't speak English, just stared at me like a deer in headlights, then kept going in the wrong direction. I got out and had to walk a long way in the cold to my destination. Via refunded me. Case 2: Airport pickup. Via's app had me wait at L1. The driver's car on the app was NOT at L1 and the driver didn't pick up the phone. I got the warning that the driver would leave soon. Even the live customer service from the Help button supported the driver, claiming he was at the terminal and they'd tell him to go to L1. I called multiple times and he didn't pick up. Suddenly I got someone. It was the Via airport rep. The didn't speak English, so he had to find a Via rep at the airport and give that man his phone just to tell me that he was here...in the WRONG place. Another $5 credit and I appreciate that from via but this happens too much. Finally...the QUALITY of the rides has gone straight Sandford and Son junkyard. I used to love Via because you'd get Uber Black QUALITY SUVs for Uber Pool 'sedan' prices. Now you get whatever. Sometimes I don't want to get in the thing because I'm hopping into a hooptie as the sparkly new MTA e-bus arrives! Not only did they say that it would take 15mins before I would be picked up by my ride but they CANCELLED my ride unexpectedly with 2 mins to spare making me unbelievably late for my doctors appointment. I've used Via since 2016 and I've been continually frustrated with this company. However I've kept using them because it was cheaper than most options getting to work from Manhattan to Brooklyn. But today I've decided to delete them. Their app always shows the car is 5, 4, 3 minutes away but the car won't move. You're left waiting 10-12 minutes for a car that was supposed to pick you up in 5 mins. The app sux! And the customer service will Just say "someone from the member services team will reach out" but no one ever does. Today was the last straw though. It was the 2nd time in 2 days that the driver didn't pick my up and marked me as on board. After waiting longer than the app indicated I had to call an Uber and pay $30 to get to work on time. Via has really gone down hill! Drivers who don't wait, drivers who smell bad, drivers who talk on the phone. Most drivers can't communicate with you. Prices keep going up. It's like cabs in the 90's but less convenient. The algorithm makes less and less sense as far as routes. They recently made it harder to communicate with them by moving support to app only. Via car service has triggered my son's asthma twice now! They have no policy on driver perfume use. First time the driver clearly smoked, and was trying to mask the smoke with perfume. It was so bad my son's asthma was immediacy triggered. We ended up in ER! Second time, the driver probably used half a bottle of perfume, we rode the car with windows down in 35 degree temperature. It's was no use, again my son's asthma was trigger. What made our experience utterly unacceptable is the completely total lack of response from VIA customer service. I wrote to them (there is NO customer service phone number for NYC), and then never hears from them! So yeah via has policy of no talking on cellphone, yet nothing on driver perfume use. Since Via ceased operations in Manhattan NY in 2021, I tried for months to get my prepaid balance refunded to me. The customer service representatives were located abroad, and those specifically assigned to the "NY unit" were not reachedable by phone, only email. Even after I emailed the calculations reflecting the correct amount due to me numerious times, they still did not comprehend. When I finally received my refund, it was less than what I was due. After this experience, I will not be using ANY prepaid car services in the future. I tried to delete my credit card and close my account BUT the app won't let you delete the credit card info. I'm still trying to get the company to delete my account. This service has gone from great to bad to just rubbish quite quickly. Via is completely unreliable. And FYI, there is NO customer service line u can call - no live person you can speak with. Their feature where u can see where ur car us currently at is pure fiction. A week ago, my app showed the car approaching and supposedly having arrived at the corner where I was standing - but there was no car there. I texted Via who texted back that the driver had overshot and was at a corner 2 blocks away. And yet the app still showed the car was right in front of me. The other thing you will find is that your wait time after u book your car will go from 2 min to 3 min to 5 min and then your car will be canceled. A lot. This evening Via hit a new low for me. I was waiting outside in the freezing cold with 2 minutes left for my Via to arrive and my app suddenly showed I had no Via booked at all. One time I ended up in New Jersey when I was supposed to be left off on 10th Ave. and 48 Street and the driver couldn't figure out how to get back to Manhattan. The other day I ordered a via which was supposed to arrive in 10 minutes.It never arrived and two hours later when I was home and in bed I got a notification that my via cab had arrived at the location. Customer service is the atrocious. They simply do a cut and paste to answer your complaints. They do not address specific issues. I do not recommend this company at all. It's dangerous and scary. Via doesn't care about the customer. Last week i took a Via from the upper east side to west 48th street. The algorithm took the driver through rock center and got us stuck. My only option was to get out and walk. I was sick and it was raining and cold. Not the driver's fault - he was following the mapping software. So i wrote to Via and asked for a $50 ride credit. This was their fault - their algorithm screwed up and they need to both make it right and pay a price for that. They gave me a credit for the ride. I wrote back saying that wasn't enough. Via came to Jersey City recently and as they're a lot less expensive than Uber I gave them a try for the first time last night for a short trip home from a restaurant as my friend's knee was bothering him. We waited 15 minutes for the van which was sort of understandable as the closest one was over by Journal Square and I was looking for a Grove St. pickup. And after all, it's cheap. Driver was surly and unshaven but, after all, it's cheap. But then he stopped 2 and a half blocks short of the destination. We convinced him to take us one block further and walked the rest of the way but what was up with that? Really weird, what sort of car service doesn't take you all the way to where you're going? ATTENTION!: For the price you pay, you can't beat it. I was in New York for the weekend with friends and someone told me about it and I instantly downloaded it. My experience with it was great. It's a flat rate fee. You will pay $5-15 depending if you have 1-4 people. Definitely cheaper than Uber and Lyft. Only downfalls: only allows 4 people MAX, and they don't operate from 12-6AM and on Sundays, they don't open till like 1030AM or something. TIPS: If you are requesting during high volume hours, request your car before you need it. And if you plan to go home close to midnight, start requesting your car well before the strike of midnight. I got screwed cause they were busy and kept trying the app for 10 minutes and then midnight hit, and I ended up just taking the bus home. Overall, for what this service offers, you can't complain too much. So all you whining 1-star givers, order an Uber if you are on a time crunch. I used to like Via as a commuter, but it became simply unworkable. Getting home from work became bumpy one-and-a-half to two hour hell ride through the digestive tract of mid-Manhattan. I've started arriving needing a rest from the grueling experience. Perfecting my subway skills has made my commute one quarter of the Via route. So no more will I pay more to get a worse commute. I originally liked Via because it was nice when the car was not so full, the route took a highway, and I could work on my laptop. Those are the good rides. But those have become rare nowadays. I might use it for an occasional ride or to take a larger group somewhere since mostly the cars are nicer and roomier than Lyft or Uber. And the more people in your party, the fewer spots for other pick ups. So for a party of four or more, it's not bad. read more

Via has been giving some competition to uber in NYC and I think it has it's pros and cons. Let's begin with the pros; A. $5 anywhere in NYC up to 125th street. Rides are available on weekdays from 6am to midnight. Saturdays, 10am to midnight, and Sundays, 10am to 9pm. After 9pm rides are $6 and on the weekends. B. You get picked up in really nice SUV's(most of the time)which make you feel very fancy. I've been picked up in anything from suburbans to escalades for five dollars you can't go wrong. C. You go meet the driver at his location, the driver drops you off in a 2 block radius of your destination. Cons: A. If you don't purchase ride credit you will be charged a surcharge, of I believe two dollars which adds up... So you need to purchase approximately 25 dollars in ride credit as a minimum. B. Since it's a shared ride service it takes longer to get to your destination. I've been in a car with three people, children, a lady with a bunch of groceries and, if your making three stops before your destination you should think about that added travel time, it can really make you late if you need to get somewhere quickly, because even after they drop one person they can pick up another along the way. C. Wait times for cars can be anywhere from a few minutes to 15 minutes for a car. If it wasn't for all the stops they make along the way and occasional long wait times I would give them that extra star. In general they are a very good company. Service is good, and drivers are usually friendly and drive clean cars. I will definitely be taking Via again, sadly there is none in Broooklyn. read more

I ride via to work almost every single day for half a year now and I realize the service from drivers has been going down hill. I think the reason is that customers can't rate and comment the drivers publicly like Uber and lift. When you got the cab, you don't know your drivers rating, which does not give drivers incentive to do a good customer service. Today I just had the worst experience I ever had. The driver is so RUDE! He told the passengers that he will not follow the route via asks him to follow but choose his own route.
