November 15, 2024 10:36 AM…read more We had a little time before catching our flight and have seen Venchi around town but did not give them a try. Venchi began as a small chocolatier founded in Turin in 1878 by Silviano Venchi using premium Piedmont hazelnuts and dark chocolate. They are known for their chocolates first and then gelatos. The employees were kind and provided great service/recommendations. The lady taking the order mentioned that if I signed up for their app I get a free chocolate. I like chocolate ok, but the hubby LOVES chocolate, let alone for free. I'm glad to get a little bit of Italian goodies prior to saying bye to Rome, definitely a great spot for gelato and chocolate as an arrivederci. Yes it's airport price, but I won't get this in the US so I don't mind spending a little more. Grazie mille Venchi!

But, most of the cup was whipped cream that did not even have a drizzle of syrup on top, which was a very cheap way of making the drink :/ the staff seemed pretentious. maybe because I am not from the area and it is my first time being here, but have some grace please when I ask about flavors and size discrepancies :( I was so excited to try to this place, but the staffing threw it off for me because usually they are welcoming as a spot like this is anyone's happy place! but omg... the store was so beautiful with the bright-colored wrappers and the sweet smell of chocolate. The store just looked so expensive with the golden cursive as the backdrop for the cashier register area...and then the dripping chocolate fountain was unlike any sweets store that I have seen! chocolates were expensive, but expected. I do wish that they did samples here before committing to buy one because the price per piece was not a small throwaway.

These were fried yeast dough puffs covered in granulated sugar and with a squirt of filling in the top middle of the dough. It's not exactly a donut by American standards, but it's not far off. We tried the chocolate and the pistachio flavor filled ones, though they had a vanilla cream flavor and one or two others. The flavored fillings were almost like a wet pudding consistency and the sugar on the outside of the dough gave it it's sweetness. Bottom line: Glad I tried Krapfen! If for no other reason then it's fun to say.

Airport shops are not just for junk. They're for the last minute "Oh shoot! I didn't buy a present…read morefor so and so" and "I'm bored so let me just spend more money before my plane takes off". In this case, as a courtesy, I needed to bring something back to the office and for my coworker who covered for me on my 9 day jaunt through Italia. First inclinations were chocolate and there were quite a few chocolate shops and fine purveyor groceries in the Fiumicino (Roma) airport. They had every European chocolate bar imagined as well as some local Italian chocolatiers. They also came with a hefty price tag, one that was quadruple of what I would pay for at Fairway and the likes. Then I saw Gentilini across the hall and decided to check it out. The store was bleak and organized, everything white much like a See's Candies kiosk. Boxes and bags of cookies lined the shelves. The woman at the cash register had a glass stand of cookies and offered us samples to try all the different variations. They were excellent and simple. Would go great with tea or just as satisfying grabbing a handful and stuffing them in your mouth. I'd say these cookies were equivalent to Pepperidge Farm or those Danish cookies in the blue tin. Upon further investigation, I found that these cookies were once sold by Williams Sonoma. I walked away with two boxes of Brasil al cacao, Vittorio al profumo di limone, and a bag of Favole con gocce di cioccolato. Gentilini calls these biscuits. Cookies to us Americans. They all have their own distinct shape. They are crispy and buttery and rich. The Brasil was like a chocolate snap, the Vittorio was like a cookie stick but faint in the lemon department, and the Favole was cute with an imprint of a train. I'm kicking myself now for not buying more. I understand now why my friend shipped a whole box of food to the states from Paris. I will bring an extra carryon and withdraw more Euros next time. Exquisite! Erano ottimi e semplici. Squisito!

There were many people out in the square eating their gelato. It was a good sign. I love the interior and presentation of the RivaReno brand. I believe the shop was recently renovated because previous pictures don't tell the whole story. It originated from the city of Bologna, and named after the Reno River shores that is iconic to that area. I didn't realize it at the time, but they have expanded to locations in the states such as Miami. Their signature & classic flavors are very unique. Maybe not to the locals, but very much to a tourist like me. The service was very pleasant, patient & sweet. The menu was colorful & descriptive so it was easy to understand (even in Italian). I decided to get some of their bolder flavors while hubby went with the basic ones. I loved their classic flavor of Zabaglione. I could really taste the Marsala Vergine Soleras wine. It was exactly what I was looking for in terms of boldness. The other 2 flavors were equally as good. The Leonardo with the flavor of pine nuts and the Morena with bitter cherries and Fior di Panna were both creamy & satisfying. My husband appeared to like the chocolate and mango gelato the most. He wasn't a fan of the banana which tasted artificial to him. I didn't taste any of his gelato flavors. There are a few tables inside, but most people were taking their gelato out into the square. It was a beautiful & cool day to enjoy it. I would go back for these flavors again. I can only hope that the locations in the USA are the same quality. Their expansion to other countries appears to be going well. The reviews in other locations look great. Especially in Miami, Palma de Mallorca, and Sydney, Australia. Here's hoping that they open a location in Tampa one day. It's that delicious!

Delicious and creamy filling with crispy shells. So so good! Love the large size too. Chocolate Chip Cannoli was the best thing here! Balance of the chocolate chips and the ricotta filling with the shell was perfect. The mini ones were perfect for trying out different flavors. Husband tried the classic, chocolate chips and pistachio. Also got the Pistachio Lover. I think this was a bit too sweet. It had a white chocolate with starsheo coating around the shell, pistachio filling on the inside and more chopped pistachios on top. So I think overall it just got too sweet. Now, I had forgotten about this place until (happily), I came across it quite by accident while strolling around Monti. So of course, I stopped in. I was greeted by the store clerk who I first thought was a little mean-looking. However. She was a delightful woman who spoke to me in French and took the time to tell me about the different flavors, pricing etc. she was very helpful and didn't rush me as I decided which flavors I wanted. Great service. I selected a handful of flavors - about ten pieces of chocolate, and these cost 8€. Let me tell you one very important thing: this chocolate is totally worth the price. Thus far, I've tried the orange slice dipped in dark chocolate, and the lemon peel (also dipped in dark chocolate) and I can confirm that we are looking at quality. Fantastic flavors! The chocolatier makes each piece right there so you know it's authentic and fresh. Interestingly, the chocolatier is the son of the man who owns the very well known Moriondo è Gariglio, who happens to be Rome's oldest chocolate shop - so he learned from the best. If you're in Monti, these guys are worth the detour.

They also serve an excellent hot chocolate, to drink inside or take away.
