These were fried yeast dough puffs covered in granulated sugar and with a squirt of filling in the top middle of the dough. It's not exactly a donut by American standards, but it's not far off. We tried the chocolate and the pistachio flavor filled ones, though they had a vanilla cream flavor and one or two others. The flavored fillings were almost like a wet pudding consistency and the sugar on the outside of the dough gave it it's sweetness. Bottom line: Glad I tried Krapfen!
