This hotel has the perfect location. Close to the street mall, close to shopping and the beaches. The rooms are on the small side but they are very well kept. They are well maintained and well cleaned. There is no musty beach smell. the AC is located in the front room (for the suites) and the bedroom can get a little warm. the pool is so nice and the place is just so well kept. parking is an issue but thats everywhere. they do have quite a few rules but i felt safe and i knew there wouldn't be any drama from other guests. the price was good too. i will definitely stay here again! read more

This motel has a great location. That's where most of the good stops. It the manager has a real edge to her. Not very nice and the she needs to be trained in some basic hospitality practices. The Manager need to be changed, she are not happy and need a break. It's not what do you think of when you think of the quaint, beautiful historic town of Cape May. As long as that manager is there I cannot recommend this motel. She likes to stand on the corner near congress hall and smoke! read more

We have been staying at the Victorian for our annual ladies' trip for over 15 years. Sadly, unless there is a change in management, we will not be going back. The motel itself is great (with the exception of the wifi). Nothing fancy but always clean. Great pool and you can't ask for a more convenient location. Unfortunately, we have had multiple issues with management regarding our reservations. Without a lengthy recap of all of them, I will share the most recent one. We had 3 rooms booked for this June. We had some changes of plans and only need 2 rooms. We called 2 weeks in advance and asked for the $240 deposit for the 3rd room be moved toward the balance of one of our other rooms. We were told no - because the deadline for making changes was 15 days and it was now 14 days. We didn't want a refund only to move the money to another room. Yes, that is the policy but certainly there could be some grace for the difference of one day and for a repeat guest of over 15 years. Instead, we lost our $240. Upon arrival at the Victorian, management has implemented all sorts of new rules. You cannot park your car after 11 am on your check out day. In fact, you can no longer use the pool after 11 am on your check out day. To use the pool at all, you need to have a pool pass. Each person has their own pool pass and there is a guy that sits at the gate all day. You must give him your pass when you enter and pick it up from him when you leave. So every time - if you leave to get something from your room, or to use the restroom, or to go get lunch - you have to swap the pass back and forth. I understand the end goal is to prevent non guests from using the pool, but there has to be an easier way. And don't lose your pass, because that is a $20 fee. Then there was housekeeping... or really there wasn't housekeeping. We received a full instruction sheet about how we needed to bag our wet towels and our garage and put it outside our room and we would get a bag with fresh towels. If we wanted someone to clean the room, we could not be in the room and the same time, and they would only clean surface areas. I will touch on one more element, which to be fair, has always been an issue there - the wifi. It is awful. If you are lucky enough to pick up their wifi signal at all, it goes in and out and the strength is week. It was actually mentioned in our instruction sheet to not try to stream anything because it affects the signal for all the guests. So obviously, they know it's a problem. We have enjoyed the Victorian for so many years, but it is time to explore other Cape May options unless the issues here are resolved. read more

Very clean, nice hotel with very friendly staff. It's smack dead in the middle of a beautiful shopping area surrounded by some great restaurants. My only gripe is that there was a very bright outside my room that prevented it from getting too dark in there. So I didn't getting the best sleep. It was so bright that I even woke up in the middle of the night thinking I had overslept. I kind of wish that light was a motion detection light that only turned on when someone was actually outside my room. read more

The manager is NUTS, she's OCD over cigarettes on the property , I reserved several rooms for my aging mother, aunt, who never smoked in their lives, she accused them of smokingthen bent over to swipe the cement floor looking for ashes and still accused them, this is all outside the rooms on the cement and resin furniture..., then later in the day sheThreatened my son to add additional fines on my credit card if she were to find cigarette damage to their property. We are all non-smokers. THE MANAGER IS THE ONLY SMOKER THERE. AVOID THIS PLACE ST ALL COSTS .. to many hotels and hotels to choose from .. no one deserves this treatment and a fear of made up " damage" charges by the manager to your account ...AVOID AVOID AVIOD!!! read more

This is my new favorite place to stay in CM. I've been coming to CM for about 7 years now and always stayed somewhere else (the sister hotel to this place, Camelot) and had to stay here when the Camelot sold out. The exterior is nothing pretty to look at, but it doesn't matter because this place is all about the rate and the location, both of which are absolutely excellent. Two blocks from the beach, across the street from the mall and congress hall, and smack in the middle of the town. They also have a nice deck that you can sit on and watch the traffic at the mall, and an outdoor pool. The owners are extremely nice and can handle almost any situation (I was there when they evacuated for Irene). I probably won't stay anywhere else whenever I'm in Cape May and I'm happy to call this place home for the summers! read more

Trust me, I've stayed in worse places, but I've certainly stayed in better. PROS: Decent rate for your location, very close to the beach and the local shopping. Parking is available for one car, another plus. Furthermore, the pool was well maintained and the rooms were clean when we arrived. CONS: Very dated and somewhat reminiscent of a trashy motel. Also, the beds are kinda uncomfortable and not very large when you get a double room. Lastly, I'm an animal lover but I know some are allergic to pet hair. If that's you, don't attempt to enter the office... they have a cat AND a dog inside ready to greet you. Again, for me, that's totally cool... but I know that this is a con for many people. Even though the place gets a two star from me, I would probably book again IF we stayed in Cape May, which is not our normal location. Why you ask? Simply because of price. read more

Nice place to stay. Great location and it is kept nice and clean. However, it seems the "regulars" place their towels on the poolside umbrella tables, therefore, never giving anyone else an opportunity to use them. Management has been notified but fails to rectify the issue. A towel will occupy a table until 1pm when the owner finally returns and decides to occupy. This is a selfish practice. Also, supposedly no smoking on property. First, you need to get by the smokers that occupy the stairs and carelessly discard their butts. Location great but price not as good as it once was so may look for new location where I can have a table poolside and enjoy lunch and not look at towels occupying tables. read more

Very happy with the Victorian Motel! My wife and I have stayed there twice so far this year. Everything you could possibly want from a relaxed motel at the shore. Perfectly located two blocks up from the beach and right near the entrance to the wonderful shops and eateries on the Washington Street Mall. The rooms are clean and very comfortable, the staff is nice and attentive, and the building is well maintained. Prices are pretty good even in the peak season. You could certainly find more lavish accommodations near by, but why??? YOU'RE AT THE SHORE!!! read more

The Victorian Motel is an old school motel right in the heart of Cape May. It was very clean and in October it was pretty quiet. All the staff that we had contact with were very friendly. We're frequent visitors of Cape May and know the area very well. We usually stay in a hotel that's on the beach a few miles north of this location. We decided that we wanted to stay right in middle of things this time and checked out the hotels near the Washington Street Mall. We wanted to walk to most everything in that area. Even in October the hotels around the mall were twice as expensive and the Congress Hall was three times as expensive as the Victorian. The other reason for choosing the Victorian Motel was parking. Only the Congress Hall had a parking lot in this area. All the B&B's and Victorian hotels only had street parking, which there is very little, and valet parking. The Victorian Motel has its own parking lot around the property. We had a king bed efficiency and it was deep in the corner and you can't see it from the outside. You don't get the 2 chairs and table outside the room that the other rooms have. The Wi-Fi in that room was very sketchy. When you did get a signal the speed was only .5 mbps, yes I said half a meg and then the signal would just drop off. I took my laptop to the second floor deck and got a good signal. The speed was only around 12 mbps but sufficient for web surfing and email. A note to the owners. I saw that your Wi-Fi antenna is mounted horizontally along the roof line of the office. If the antenna was mounted vertically you would get better range. read more

We just returned from spending 6 nights at this motel. The place was clean, and the location is excellent. However, their internet connection was sporadic-- I was not able to access it from my Apple iPad for the first 3 days we were there. (Worked fine the last 3 days- which included the weekend). When I went down to the office ( 2 x) to inquire why I was having difficulty, the manager ( Kathleen) was very hostile and demeaning. She told me I was way too impatient, and that it wasn't their responsibility to tell me that the Bluetooth setting must be turned off to access the internet. Is that how to speak to a customer?-- considering you are in the hospitality industry?! Smoking is not permitted on the premises either, but many times we saw her standing outside smoking away. Guess the rules don't apply to her. Questionable as to whether we will ever stay there again, considering the rudeness and unfriendliness of the manager. Plenty of other motels around, with friendlier staff!! read more

My favorite part of going here is getting to talk to the managers John and Suzanne, and of course their beautiful golden retriever Joy. We have been coming to this motel for years with a group of woman (mostly in our 50s and 60's) and the former manager, John, always greeted us with open arms and so happy to see us. The new manager from last year and this year, started our weekend with the complete opposite attitude! She started our weekend with an endless list of rules even mentioned that maybe we should look into staying somewhere else with a party our size. Last year, we had a get together on Friday night with food and beverages and we got yelled at at 7:30pm for being too loud. We were not going to rebook last year, but she practically begged us and told us she would reserve the deck for us Friday night this year. Upon check in this year, she lied and said she only said, she would try to reserve it. She was almost in a manic state when we checked in. She complained that she " had her ass handed to her all summer long" and "hadn't had a day off since July 4th!" Not how you want to begin your weekend. We were on guard the whole weekend so we didn't get yelled at again. However, she even yelled at 2 in our group for talking to loud at 7:30am! We also learned that she was trying to solicit complaints from other motel guests about group. We always try to make friends with fellow guests and invite them to participate in our fun! She couldn't get any complaints about us, despite her attempts. This motel was always a great place to stay, but the manager needs to go! Not sure the owner is aware of how she is treating people. The other staff member was a delight and had excellent customer service! She should be promoted! read more

We had to come to Cape May for the Coast Guard Graduation. We chose this hotel based on the suggestions of others and it did not disappoint. We are happy we chose this hotel and would absolutely stay here again. It is a clean, well lit, safe, very affordable, and very accommodating hotel. Our travel plans had us arriving at 3am. The managers were so very helpful in getting us checked in and set up. Free WiFi and it works great. We stayed in the off season, so we didn't get to test the pool out and weather kept us indoors most of the trip. Office staff is super friendly, and the cleaning lady was amazing. We will choose the Victorian on future trips to Cape May in a heart beat. read more

This place is god awful. Rude manager, rude staff. We had bed bugs in our room as well and spent the day we came home washing all of our clothes and belongings to make sure they weren't on anything. I absolutely love this place & my family & I have stayed here for the last 7 years. The location is the best and is ideal for children. The rooms are tidy & the pool is always taken care of. The reason that I didn't give 5 stars is because although I have stayed here for many years, I am still treated like a stranger at every stay. I would suggest that returning guests be given priority consideration for the choice of room and are verbally welcomed back at the time of arrival. Maybe even a reminder card sent during the off season to say that we look forward to seeing you next season. Letting your customers now that they are important goes a long way. read more

My wife, myself and my 12 year old just came back from spending 3 nights at the Victorian and were very pleased with our experience. I was a little iffy about staying here at first since we have always stayed at motels on the beach when traveling to Cape May, but the close proximity to the mall and all of the shops and restaurants more than made up for that. I love staying at a place where there is barely a reason to use your car!The rooms were a very nice size, very up to date and most importantly extremely clean. The beds were comfortable with enough pillows in the room for each of us to have two. The owners and their staff really care about their motel and the grounds as evidenced by the staff constantly walking the grounds, straightening out the furniture, checking on all things, etc. That really appeals to the clean freak inside of me! It's also nice to stay at a place where all of the staff are friendly and helpful.If I had one comment to make it would be that the wifi could have been better inside the room, however it worked perfectly sitting on the balcony outside the room.We would definitely recommend this place to others and would definitely consider it for future visits to Cape May. read more

I appologize in advance for this but i would ask u to PLEASE just take the time to read this especially if u have stayed here before. PLEASE READ TIL THE END and I appologize if I'm all over the place since I'm still upset. My family and I have been coming to this motel for the last 6 years. We get two rooms. One for me, my husband and kids and another room for my mother, her husband, my niece and nephew. We stay a week at a time and have spent a tremendous amount of money to do so which we have never minded doing before now. Its always been such a wonderful family friendly place. We love being so close to the beach and we love being right where the main Cape May shopping strip is. The pool is great too. We have always been respected and respectful in return. This year we have noticed an unfortunate difference in our experience. New inexperienced management and staff have made the motel seem like a second rate place to stay. I'll start by saying that the office is open til 10pm. On the very first day of our booked stay we were running late. They were informed before hand that we wouldn't be in at the normal check in time but later in the evening. No problem! Then at 8:04pm (while driving) we recieved a call asking how much longer it would be. We said we would be there in 45 mins. No problem??? Remember when I said the office was open til 10pm? Apparently someome wanted to go home early because we received not one but two MORE phone calls asking when we would be there, all in a spand of 15 mins. They even asked with a huff "well...are u sure??? What does your gps say?". Our room was paid for. Their phone calls were uncalled for especially after I explained during the FIRST call we would be there with time to spare. It just got worse from there. New management means new rules for a hotel. Most are common sense but some are completely new to us. We pay about $4000 for these 2 rooms. One room has 2 full size beds. Most people know that when u get a hotel/motel room it can hold 2 people per full size bed. Our other room had 2 full size beds and a fold out couch which equates to 6 people. Their rule is now to allow one person per bed (just forget about the pull out couch) and charge extra for anyone else in the room. So now we have paid $4000 for these two rooms and are required to pay extra for each additional person. I was outraged. This is all new to us because where we are from u pay for a hotel room u can have as many people as the room fits. It has NEVER been an issue before. Fine...thats your rules. Your rules are losing long time customers. But listen here and listen closely... Your manager decided that the best place to confront us about these rules was to corner a Vietnam vet who still suffers on a small stairscase surrounded by his grandchildren that he loves dearly. U didn't say "please come to the office so we can discuss an issue", u lady manager, pointed at MY SON and while looking at his grandfather, said "wheres THAT one staying?". "THAT" one shouldnt even have been in the conversation. The other 2 children present shouldnt have been involved either. I have never seen a more incompetent manager in my life. Oh yeah and did i mention on more then one occasion we were informed by staff and manager alike why the old long term manager isn't there anymore? Funny that everyone was willing to talk crap and over charge and be jerks to everyone, yet that old long term manager, from what i hear, has a better paying job at a bigger hotel AND got a house out of the deal. Yeah he was the problem I'm sure. Im sad.This place that we all looked forward to come every year is now looking like a nightmare. Oh and one more thing...we were promised that the owner was going to come talk to us. Never did, did they? I wonder if miss incompetent even called. Its not just us. Another sweet older couple, who have been coming for 17 years, are no longer coming back. This nice husband and wife with 2 adorable kids are no longer coming back either. They've been coming the same week as us for 5 years. Sad! read more

I got married in Cape May earlier this year. I wanted an affordable/convenient lodging option for my guests, and this place certainly fit the bill. I did not stay at this hotel, so I can't give five stars, but I am giving four stars because the staff at the hotel were always so helpful and accommodating to my guests. I also interacted with the staff on several occasions, and always found them to professional and helpful. I gave them close to 40 welcome bags to give to my guests, and they distributed them without any problems. If I were going to stay in Cape May again, I would definitely choose this place for the value and convenience! read more

i was pleasantly surprised by how nice this very affordable motel was! it's an older property, well taken care of on the exterior and the interior seems to have been renovated as it's completely modern and updated inside. our rooms was spotless and spacious and complete with kitchenette and there was even a great shower, hot and good water pressure. front desk staff was very kind. between my friends and i we took up four rooms, none of us had any complaints. i highly recommend it! read more

THEY STOLE OUR MONEY! NEXT DOOR NEIGHBORS COMPLAINED ABOUT BED BUGS! We just recently stayed at The Victorian, hearing about all the great reviews and friendliness of the staff, which is just not the case. One day after coming back from the beach, we placed our bags and money down on our bed and got ready to go to the Victorian pool. When we left our room the housekeeper went in our room to "clean" and when we came back the bed was made, our bags were moved and our money was stolen. The manager John was extremely rude and did absolutely nothing to fix the matter, telling us that we must have just misplaced it or forgot about spending it which is not true at all. The money was there when we left for the pool and gone when we came back. I was constantly hung up on when trying to contact the front desk and approaching them in person didn't help either. They kept telling me they were looking into the matter which they obviously never did, nothing but lies with these people. When we left the motel at the end of our stay, and we approached John for the last time, he treated us like we were stupid, did absolutely nothing to help us, and nothing was resolved. We were not refunded the stolen money. DO NOT STAY HERE, save your money for a much better place. Our next door neighbors complained about bed bugs and now I'm currently throughly washing all of my clothes to make sure they weren't in our room! Don't let them ruin your vacation like they did to ours. read more
