A few examples: I was told that to be included in A.R.T's August calendar, they would need a confirmation and deposit by August 5th. I paid the deposit of $200 on July 31st and submitted my poster along with the blurb by Aug 4th. However, I wasn't included in their newsletter. I had to follow up a couple times by email and phone to remind them to add me to their website. When I visited his store for the first time, he told me I could stop by the store any time I wanted, but when I did stop by, to ask about the lack of signups for my class, he cut me off mid-sentence, made me wait for 15 minutes, and then sent me home without a resolution. I ended up losing $200 on my deposit, which he claims was nonrefundable, despite his not saying so upfront. I would advise anyone considering partnering with A.R.T. to make sure all terms are in writing before making a payment.

After completing the entire process and getting approve, the cashier told her "We don't honor that policy at this location." Lastly, they don't properly label prices. Beads labeled at $8- $10 on the display ring up at $11- $14 at checkout. This didn't happen once, but the last 6 times I visited this store. it's disappointing that for this being the only arts and crafts store in the area, after putting smaller stores out of busines, that they operate like this. On google the price hikes are blaming inflation and tariffs but Michael's charges $21 dollars for Ranger ink pads, when they are $14 at Ranger's own website.

Nubian Heritage is one of the nicer stores on the block and is right around the corner from the E Station. I saw some Dashikis and pictures of Barack Obama in the window, so I figured this store could be promising. When I got in there it wasn't quite what I was expecting, but still interesting. It reminded me of one of the small ethnic stores I might see in Williamsburg, full of small trinkets and living room table pieces. Also they had a big focus on oils, scents/incence, and soaps. Possibly like an African Bed Bath and Body Works. Although there were some cool Egyptian pieces, my only complaint was that it was mainly geared towards females and there were very few pieces for men. Also I think it would have been cool if they should of had some more African instruments, but that's just me. Besides that it was an interesting store. Don't let it scare you that it's in Jamaica Queens. The avenue is actually pretty nice, although I'm too sure how safe it is a few blocks off the main street at night. The one thing I can say is be warned: Taking the E Train is an adventure in it's self, and the Jamaica station has a fine smell of urine to greet you as you get off the station.

We came in to buy a last minute anniversary card and was greeted by the smell of sizzling meat. I was intrigued and promised myself that I would come back here for lunch. We purchased a few cards and they were good deals because all greeting cards are 1/2 off the listed price on the back. A few weeks later, I come in to check out the big menu board and ordered a Philly Cheesesteak ($9.99). The short order cook asked if I wanted lettuce & tomato in addition to the onions, peppers, mushrooms & provolone cheese and I said "Sure, why not". Thinking back, the L&T made the sandwich a little soggy, so I'll skip them next time on the cheesesteak. The grilled meat & veggies were stuffed into a hero roll, wrapped up and I was ready to go. It was a really tasty sandwich (and way better deal than Jersey Mike's across the street). I can't wait to come back to try all the other sandwiches & wraps on the board. Breakfast, too!
