I've never really shopped here but I needed to get some picture and posters framed and this is the place for that. Seems like they have everything related to art for sure and pictures. The ultimate arts and crafts store ha. They have tons of different options for framing as well as show casing, like sports memorabilia etc. Great place to decide how to set up a home office or just decorating a room as far as pictures and posters. The store itself is on the second floor. You have to take escalators or an elevator to get up to the store. It's a decent sized store. Check out was a breeze when I was there. Depends on how many they have open but there are a lot or registers. Parking can be nightmare in this area. Shared lot with Trader Joe's so it is always busy.

This is one of the more organized Michaels craft & hobby stores. The one in Fresh Meadows, which is huge and blessed with a large parking lot has become a chaotic mess. So I'd rather drive the extra few miles to have a hope of what I want to find. It's pretty quiet here, just an escalator flight above Staples and the mob scene that is Trader Joe's. Finding a parking spot here is a challenge, but if you go around the side, people are always pulling out. Once you cop a squat on a spot, you can shop at some of the other stores in the area as well. My hobby supply needs are simple. I like to build plastic models and model rockets, which Michaels has limited selections, as well as for enamel paints and X-acto tools. One thing to remember is never to pay full retail price on anything here. Always wait for a sale or use one of the coupons online or in the weekly sales circulars. They can be as much as 40%, 50% or 60% off a single regular priced item (non-sale priced) or sometimes 20% off an entire purchase, so shop smart.

Store #8785 As an avid scrapbooking, I used to LOVE Michael's Crafts stores but where I once attained all my crafts materials but their selection and inventory stock level for major brand names has greatly declined. What I seek at Michael's is what I was unable to attain for Scotch's scrapbooking double-sided removable tape. Retail's busiest time of the year, the holidays and they do not restock basic craft items??! This is the holidays 2012 as many items on the shelves are empty with only the hooks and price tag but no product. AIJA! Price is very steep for rubber stamps and the ink pads are overpriced for $10.00 each- whoa!! Staff is difficult to locate as there is no one physically holding the fort on the floor to seek assistance and are stolid with their dismissive attitude to customers. In up-keeping with the growing presence of scrapbooking as a craft hobby, Michael's produces their own brand which has a strong presence throughout this store #8785. The checkout queue is backup for ten minutes. Thankfully, within mere minutes of a purchase that I'd abruptly changed my mind for another item I was able to do an exchange at the register without waiting on another line. Note: This store #8785 actually lies in Rego Park, Queens NOT Glendale and is accessible via Q11 Bus. This store inhabits a parking lot shared with adjacent neighbors Staples and Trader Joe's.

So when the place is full or there's a lot of kids, it can be noisy. But it's too be expected. There's also a couple small dogs in the store. They keep to themselves. They had a decent selection of pottery to choose from. However, I think we wished there was a little more. We wanted to paint some of the marvel characters that we saw in a picture and also saw as a finished product on the shelf, but they were sold out. It's $8 to sit and then the price of the pottery on top of it. It's not cheap, but you're paying for the entertainment of it, the experience and memories, as well as, bringing home a one of a kind painted pottery. Additionally, there's a credit card fee if you pay with credit card. So I opted to pay in cash. Owners/staff are friendly. The staff offered suggestions on how to start painting (e.g. sketching out my design with a pencil first). But be patient, the owners have broken English. It didn't bother me, but I could see how it may be frustrating for others. Overall, we had a nice time at Mud Genius.

Sadly it was a frustrating experience and I am left wondering if it's this place only functions when the wife of the husband/wife team is at the helm. When she appeared she at least made an effort at customer friendliness. We went in on a weekday. I asked for an ice cream bowl. The husband's owner pointed to the shelves. I said I looked and could he help. He pointed to them again. No help. Sigh. I pick out a big item for my 8-year-old. We sit down. He proceeds to lecture my kid on using a big brush so he will finish faster. Is fast the goal here? It was overbearing and he didn't get any social cues to back off. More people come in -- a 5 and 8-year-old. He insists they sit together even though there's plenty of space because as he says: "this way I don't have to keep walking back and forth." It's a small shop people. Now we are crowded next to a 5-year-old who has ants in his pants and is ready to climb the walls. Relaxing it was not. Then there's the dog, which they keep in the store. I don't mind dogs, but some do. One such customer said her kid was afraid and could they put the dog away. He is put in the back only to keep coming back out or yap. Now we have to listen to the drama unfolding. But, I think the final straw, after enduring all this was that when I asked for a fine point brush because all the brushes out had bristles that were worn out I was informed customers ruined them so that's what they had. The message here: We can't have nice things and neither can you. I get kids are the main customers but it's an art shop and I KNOW brushes are not that expensive that you can't keep some aside for adults who are trying to do some more detailed work. So, no, it wasn't much fun, and it was sure as hell not relaxing. We won't be back.

I am so glad to have this store in our neighborhood! I buy art supplies here whenever I need them,…read moreI also use them for printing. I gave up on my home printer years ago and now rely on them. I find the people who work there/owners to be helpful and neighborly.

I arrived Wednesday evening to pick the prints and was told scornfully "I told you Thursday or Friday" . The man was not only wrong but very combative in his tone and language. I can understand if the prints were not made by the set pickup date but I can not understand the need to act defensively and the attempt to shift blame onto me, the paying client. The man told me I could come back Thursday and I asked if he was positive and he confirmed. He said he would text me when they were done and I left. I walked in Thursday afternoon and the man said "you're here to pick up the prints aren't you, I told you Thursday or Friday and that I would text you". He wasn't apologetic he was annoyed. I countered he confirmed they would be ready Thursday and he became even more argumentative and dismissive. Regardless of the pick up times that were argued, this is extremely poor customer service. I paid in advance for a service which was not rendered in the agreed upon timeframe and instead of being accommodating or at the least kind about it I was met with contempt and made to feel like I was an annoyance. This is inexcusable. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place.
