Excellent communication, organized, high quality work. He and Carlos worked quickly and meticulously to make sure our home was back to perfect condition and over the holidays, no less. I've never met a construction crew that holds their work to higher standards than the clients. Great people that we will continue to work with for future projects. They go above and beyond and give you peace of mind that your home is in good hands.

A rite of passage for new homeowners is to deal with a major repair. Less than a year after moving in, heavy rains led to water from outside making its way inside without invitation. Noticing some damaged wood that was likely to blame, we called on Nelson to help. Of the various contractors we solicited for quotes, Nelson was the most through and punctual. And throughout, Nelson and team were reliable, communicative and provided expert work for a job which started as a "minor" siding repair but expanded (to our dismay) in scope as increasing amounts of rotting, structural wood from the previous owner was uncovered. Although it was disconcerting to see how much damage we would need to address, Nelson was sympathetic and assured us that it would be straightforward to fix and advised on a couple of different approaches, which we agreed to. His team arrived on time every day and worked around weather conditions to perform carpentry, waterproofing, and offered continuous updates. We also hired Nelson's team to paint afterwards, and are very happy with the results. By the end we started dreaming about other projects or repairs we could accomplish and started getting his feedback on those as well! One thing we learned is that it's necessary to make sure the discussions are thoroughly documented-we had a couple of misunderstandings about what was included or not after verbal discussions, which we either resolved through the contract, or realized after the fact that it was something discussed but never written down so we let it go. But making the agreement itself was a breeze, and Nelson is good humored, flexible and was easy to work with at all of the stages of the process. We would certainly work with him on future repairs.

We were drawn to his past work and trusted right away that he could bring our vision to life. Even in the design phase, Nick's attention to detail and thoughtful approach have really stood out. He is warm, approachable, and easy to talk with--our meetings have been collaborative, enjoyable, and often filled with personal touches and stories that made the process feel comfortable and inspiring. Nick has guided us through material choices with great care, bringing beautifully vetted samples and unique, locally sourced options for wood, tile, and finishes. His passion for quality and sustainability really shines through, and we've loved his creative solutions and ability to offer custom, one-of-a-kind ideas to make the space truly our own. So far, working with Nick has been both fun and reassuring--we feel confident that when it comes time to build, our kitchen and dining room will be even more beautiful than we imagined.

Nick is a licensed general contractor and extraordinary carpenter with a great eye for detail. He is classically trained with a BFA in sculpture from University of the Arts in Philadelphia and exhibit buildout at SFMOMA. He checked all the boxes at our first on-site meeting and revisits. He was on time, on budget, an excellent listener and terrific communicator, highly skilled craftsman and problem solver, true to form with the best tools and matching materials, self-proclaimed nit-picky perfectionist, fine finish matching and all around nice guy. Nick is honest, quick to respond, perfect on the details, has very high standards, and is very caring and positive, gracious and modest. He used the existing design not reinventing the wheel and most likely would have improved the gateway design given the chance. Nick is an exceptionally talented contractor with many years of creative problem solving. To repeat, he has a great eye for detail and sculpted, integrated, seamless design with unique elements evidenced by his extensive portfolio. I never felt the need to micromanage him. He is terrific at remote site communication and management. We live in the East Bay and the owner is in Hawaii which adds a level of complexity to remote destination work. I stepped back remotely and admired Nick's process with timely before and after pictures. The end result was outstanding! We will definitely use Nick on our next project, very highly recommended!

They…read moreimpressed, whether it was with the handling of inspections and inspectors, the transparency with financials, or the simply trade itself, John Shaw and his team were always on top of our renovation. Professional, respectful, and highly communicative, he was always there whenever we needed him, by text, phone, or in person, if we needed reassurance, advice or progress reports he always seemed to be right on the ball. It's hard to communicate just how important this is to keep the blood pressure down while undertaking something as life altering as a major home renovation, but we always felt Fahan had it under control. Our project was completed on schedule, 7 months to do a new kitchen, master bath, staircase installation, family room and deck, plus electrical and lots of small detail work around the house. Seven months is really something considering how easily big renovations like ours can go off the rails. Horror stories abound, and we, quite literally, had none. What a huge relief. In terms of costs, Fahan was transparent and upfront with us. They estimated and invoiced all expected and unexpected costs up front, and clearly stated any potential overruns. There were some, but none that we felt were from left field, and for each one we were given options to keep in line with what we were comfortable with. We understood and signed off on everything before anything moved forward, with a comforting degree of transparency. The only downside we could see was that the pricing tended to be high. It's not entirely clear however if this was due to the current economic conditions of '22-'23 or if it's just what quality work and workmanship costs. But as they say, you get what you pay for. Overall, we felt well-taken care of throughout the process, like there was an insider who knew the business, the pitfalls and the tricks. "I trust them", were words we uttered more than once. Most of the time we weren't even at the house, only catching up on the progress on weekends, but we always knew that the work would get done and with little to no issues along the way. THe house turned out amazing. We really couldn't be happier with the work they did. Fahan's just a quality outfit, contractors and subs, that you should trust with your house too. Just top-shelf all the way. Two thumbs up.

We hired Fahan for a number of projects at our home in the Outer Sunset of San Francisco: building a new deck, extending power and plumbing to the back yard, replacing our leaky roof, providing access to the new deck from our bedroom and a number of other misc projects inside our home. All of these projects were completed on time and with superb quality. John was incredibly friendly, professional and responsive throughout the whole process. He was extremely thorough: from working with the architect to co-ordinating with all the inspectors, to introducing us to all the members on his team and what we could expect from them on a regular basis. He managed the whole project effectively by providing us with timely quotes, invoices and being diligent about addressing any follow up questions we had. If there were any unforeseen issues with the weather or supply chain issues, John kept us informed and worked around each of these issues while keeping the project on time. Every single day, his team would show up on time and work diligently while keeping us posted if they needed anything. When we wanted something updated or changed, they obliged us immediately. What was particularly impressive is that they pulled off a number of different projects working across 3-4 different groups of people! I will definitely miss them around our home. And will reach out to them we need anything built or fixed moving forward.

Let me tell you why. * My initial call to Mr Skylight was returned within minutes. * An appointment was scheduled and honored. * A written quote was provided later that day. * The quote seemed very reasonable. * The proprietor of Mr Skylight knows his stuff. I didn't act quickly but when I finally reached out again with questions I received an almost immediate response. When I had more questions the response was equally rapid. Scheduling the job was easy and the workers showed up on time, finished promptly, and left the work site immaculately clean. The proprietor, Ladd, was on site and involved with the entire installation. He was my sole contact from initial contact through installation. I have zero hesitation in highly recommending Mr Skylight for replacing old skylights, installing new skylights, or trouble-shooting skylight-related issues or concerns. I wish all businesses were run like this one. Great job!

    Broek Hardwood Floors

Would not hire again…read more We first hired Jan in September 2016 to install hardwood in our kitchen. His price was slightly high, but he did great work. We hired him again in July 2018 to do our adjacent family room. His price had increased significantly, but we liked his workmanship and wanted our adjacent floors to match. Plus, we liked him personally. In our opinion, the second installation was poor, very poor given the price. The nails holes are inconsistent, pitted and not filled properly. There is also wood filler covering other errors. And, the filler color he used does not match the correct color used in the kitchen so the errors stand out even more. He also left a red chalk line dust spot beneath the top coat which now stands out near the center of the room. He did not take the care we paid for as he did with the first job. The biggest disappointment, however, is that he initially indicated that he would come take a look at the finished floor and see how it could be fixed, but never did. He simply stopped returning our text and telephone messages. We gave up after a month. I cannot explain the change in attitude, but in my opinion Jan did not act honorably in leading us on and then ignoring us. We will not hire him to do our hallway and bedroom floors.

Flooring was T&G 3/4 in. oak, with grooves between planks. We opted to take about 1/8 inch off, so that the grooves essentially disappeared. This action gave a more professional look to the floor, so the end result was a better looking floor than the original from 30 years ago. -- Payment: Although Jan's website indicates credit cards can be used, there's a several-day wait for approval. That was too long in our case because of scheduling. They could not deal with an Electronic Funds Transfer. All-in all one of the best experiences ever. My home is 120 miles remote from the job site, and there were no problems in dealing with Jan and his staff
