My husband and I had the pleasure of working with John when we hired him to photograph our wedding in Westport, CT. The day of our wedding, he and his assistant were on time and fully prepared. Moreover, they were extremely flexible amid some last minute changes to our plans due to inclement weather that approached as we began taking formal photos shortly before our ceremony! My husband Gregg and I were fortunate enough to meet John Videler early in the planning of our wedding. While we had met with other photographers, immediately after our meeting with John - we knew that he was our choice. There was a connection with John that is difficult to put into words, but it was there. And now, after working with him, there is no doubt in our minds - if we were going to do it again, we would not hesitate for a moment to work with John again. For anybody reading this and thinking about working with John - go for it - you will be so happy to have made that choice! We would give him 6 or more stars if we could! From the very beginning John went above and beyond what could be expected. Beyond being our photographer, we always felt as if he was a partner in planning our perfect day. For starters, John's work is phenomenal. He (and his assistant) shoot wonderfully, with a great sense for lighting, background, color, etc. He caught every shot you can imagine, with a perfect blend of planning and spontaneity ... from the unbelievably beautiful formal shots to the wonderful unknowns which showed my husband and I, as well as all of our guests having the time of their lives! The wonderful memories of our perfect day are "sparked" and enhanced every time we look at our album or other pictures displayed in our home. In terms of being our partner, John was there from the beginning. Whatever question we had, whether or not it was related to photography, he was more than willing to listen, provide advice, and lend a hand. He recommended our florist and others involved in our wedding, he helped us find ways to trim costs to stay within our budget, and importantly, he helped us create special ways to make our day uniquely ours. We wanted to take some of the formal pictures before our ceremony, so John created a special moment for Gregg and I to see each other for the first time on our wedding day. To say that I felt that Gregg and I were the only two people in the world at that moment is an understatement ... but John was there somewhere and he caught the tears of joy in my husband's eye and the magical love between us. He also helped us to make our ceremony totally unforgettable! Gregg is an avid cyclist, and John helped us to surprise all of our guests, including our entire wedding party, by having Gregg ride his bicycle down the aisle; and to make sure the bride had her special moment, John remembered that I was a runner and did a lot of strength training - so spontaneously at the wedding, had me drop down and do push-ups - in my gown! And he caught it all in the pictures. John was unquestionably an integral part of our day. In addition to his creativity, skill, and talent as a photographer, John has a special way of connecting with people and making a special day even more unique. Everyone at the wedding who interacted with John loved him; and those who have seen the pictures can't say enough about how incredibly beautiful they are. I still don't know how he did it, but like magic he turned two relatively camera-shy people into stars for the day! While he captured every moment of the day ... you never knew he was there! I first met John when I was fortunate enough to have him photograph my wedding in 2007. He blended into my wedding party and family seamlessly, and his laid back and friendly demeanor helped me laugh my way through several last-minute crises - he even got on the cell phone and gave my Maid of Honor driving directions to the venue as she got lost minutes before the ceremony was to start! His charm and professionalism were commented upon by everyone as he took pictures throughout the day; he even allowed a family friend and aspiring photographer to stand by his side and take shots, and offered advice and guidance on how to achieve the best results. When it came time for the group photos after the reception, he organized everyone quickly, efficiently and calmly and had them done in perfect timing (right at sunset with beautiful light off of the water, just how I wanted them!) and with no stress for me or my family/party. At the reception, he caught many precious candid moments and seemed to be everywhere at once! The experience of working with him on my special day was everything I had hoped for and more, and I am so grateful to have the amazing photographs that he took then. Only one name came to mind, then, this past October 2011 (four years later) when I wanted professional pictures taken of my son and also my pet dog. I asked John if he was available and he was thrilled to set up a session for us at Compo Beach on a perfect fall day. Although my young child is adverse to having his pictures taken, he quickly became comfortable with John as he was shadowed walking on the rocks, climbing on the cannon, and running on the beach - so comfortable, in fact, he started to tell John what pictures to take! (John was more than happy to oblige, so I have some hysterical pictures of my son posing as a penguin and a pirate wielding a "sword" on the cannon!) John also captured fantastic pictures of me with my dog (no easy feat!), and of my son and me, all while we were laughing and having a wonderful time. You become so comfortable that you forget your picture is even being taken! The photographs from this day are more beautiful that I could have imagined and I already have them printed and framed all over my home. They are natural and real- his work truly manages to capture the heart of your moment and never look posed or forced. These photos are treasures that I will keep forever - a perfect day in my son's life - and even when he is grown I know that these are the photos that will be hanging in my house. For these reasons - for two perfect days captured forever in beautiful photographs - I cannot recommend John Videler more highly for whatever special moment you want to be able to capture, whether it is an entire day (your wedding) or an afternoon with your family.
