When I came by myself, I spent over an hour reading all the exhibits and information about the history of Christian Science. Pretty interesting. Today we just did the 20 minute tour of the mapparium and appreciated the artistry, engineering, acoustics, and historicity of the globe as well as the two timepieces hanging in the main atrium. All the staff were very welcoming. Brad and Steve did a great job giving us the tour. They have gorgeous tile work even in the restrooms, and speak with pride about the every aspect of the design of the building. They offer a coat room so that you can safely store your bags and water bottles to avoid any chance of dropping anything inside the mapparium. Glad to come back again with family. Very memorable.

They have different prices for different age groups and students. The lady up front was very kind and helpful - we even bonded on being alumni of the same high school and she gave a brief overview of the experience. They did have a complimentary coat/bag check which we took full advantage of. I am not sure how spaced apart the sessions are but we waited only about 10 minutes to go on the next one. We walked into the room with the glass globe, where we were advised to stay quiet since conversations travel very easily. A sound track was playing in the background while interacting with the map. We stayed in there for about 15 minutes. I was caught taking a video, but people were taking pictures / using their phone after the show, so I am unsure if videos are prohibited or I just took it out too soon. After exiting the room, they have a couple stands with information, as well as a wall where you can take a card and write an answer to the question. My question was, " what do you have hope for" or something along those lines. It's a very cool experience, but it did feel quick.

During our last stay in Boston, we had a room that had a direct view of the John Hancock tower…read more It was such a beautiful sight...especially at night...most of the offices were lit up and it made the whole building look almost magical. This towering skyscraper stands tall at 790 feet, making it the tallest building in New England. Construction on the John Hancock Tower began in 1968 and was completed in 1976. The tower is made up of reflective glass panels that give it a sleek and modern appearance The John Hancock Tower is located in the heart of Boston's Back Bay neighborhood, at 200 Clarendon Street. If you are lucky to go up to some of the high floors, you could enjoy great views of the city.

I *SO* wish I was writing this review under different circumstances. There is now a deep pain…read moreassociated with this building... but this isn't the building's fault - thus no stars deducted. You see, I used to work at one of the companies within. I don't want to name it, so let's say I was somewhere between 50%-75% of the way up. To say it was a dream job is an understatement; I couldn't have dreamt it up if I tried. Well, my employment ended in less than six months. Not 100% my fault, not 100% theirs... even if you were to find the numbers, they probably wouldn't add up to 100 either - sometimes in life there is a sprinkle of rotten luck. I had a lot of pride not only in the company I worked for and in the work I did, but also for where (physically) I worked. Friends and colleagues would often ask me, and I would tell them I work right in the John Hancock Tower. Outwardly, I would [try to] be completely nonchalant about it, but inside I felt just a little hurt when the other person wasn't as wowed as I was walking into work every day. From inside, well, the view is incredible, of course. The one caveat is the nighttime view isn't what you would expect (nor what I accurately conveyed in the photos). I think it is partly due to the blue mirror coating on the glass - it reflects some of the now rather scarce blue light. As an architectural symbol, it is probably as uniquely Boston as Fenway. Something that is immediately recognizable. Yes, there are valid criticisms about its location right next to Trinity Church, and how it fits into the overall landscape. It is said, correctly, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I for one, despite what anyone else says, think the building is wicked awesome. I also love how one can see it from very far away (I've seen it from Lynn and Weymouth!) There is also some fascinating history surrounding the building, including cases where the glass would fall out, and many windows were replaced with wooden panels. Or, how it was determined that under certain wind conditions, the building could fall - and reinforcements were added to the structure, as well as a stabilizer on one of the top floors. With all this, and especially the privilege of having worked inside it, there is not conceivable way I would award anything less than five stars.

It is just two rooms and a small gift shop, and we were in and out pretty quickly. The girl working was not the friendliest, which took away from the experience a bit. They also do not allow photography, which is understandable, but barely anything was original so not sure the significance.

The Paul Revere house sounds like a must visit place to visit while in Boston but honestly there isn't much to it. The good news is it's cheap at only 6.00 per person. The bad news is there are no pics inside and none of the stuff in there is actually his. Just stuff that was from the time period or reproductions. So why no pictures? The house is small but 2 stories, then you go into a gift shop because I think it's the 8th amendment to the constitution that all museums and tourist attractions must end in a gift shop. There's also a little history timeline at the end with a few artifacts that were cool. It's a decent place to check out especially for the price and it doesn't take long but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Oh, and let people take their pics, they are not British muskets. The I-phones are coming! The I-phones are coming!

What a cool place to be!…read more There is so much history just lying around here. We walked all around for a few hours. We stopped and shopped and ate ice cream and drank coffee and had ourselves a good ol' time. Who needs grammar, I'm near Harvard! LOL My kids would never even entertain the idea of coming here for school so I never had a chance to come and visit the campus. I was glad we took the time to hang out and pull in the vibes. Very cool and historical place this is. It's strange to me that so many non students are here walking around. Most college campuses seem pretty well just for the students. Nice to get this off the list. Maybe I can convince my grandkids to attend Harvard. We shall see. '26 - 64

The majestic gate is the key to the kingdom, the entrance to a nice, cool area, ready to be checked out! The gate at Boston's Chinatown, is big, impressive, nicely decorated guarded by two lions. It's located at Beach st. and donated by the government of Taiwan in 1982. It's a great stop to take some photos, I couldn't resist, I also took some for some other fellow tourists! One of the main spots to check out in Chinatown! Nice landmark of the city!

But check it out if you would like to see a classical performance or Harvard art event, in a student, casual environment. I think it may be sometimes only available to Harvard students and affiliates.

If you're inspired by beautiful architecture, you *must* catch a performance at Sanders Theatre…read more When I walk into the space, my spirit is uplifted and can't help but gaze around me and drink in the amazing style of this place. Rich, dark woods, beautiful soaring archways and central dome, lovely tile in the entrance hall... it's just a lovely space. The acoustics in the space are quite amazing, too. I sing with the Cambridge Community Chorus, and we're performing a show there this coming Sunday... we've had two rehearsals so far in this space and the sound is absolutely amazing. The space itself serves as a natural amplifier, and the harmonics in the room are such that the tones and frequencies blend prettily in ways that other spaces just don't convey. The statements about the seating being uncomfortable are true... but regardless, if you have an opportunity to see a show at Sanders Theatre, you should do it. Uncomfortable seats notwithstanding, it is a truly magical experience.

Visiting the ICA Watershed has become a summer tradition for me since 2021. The ICA itself has been…read moreone of my happy places ever since I moved to Boston, and the Watershed is such a cool extension of it. +Admission is free They usually host a block party or two over the summer, often with dancers and other performances. Keep an eye out for dates on their website. The featured artists tend to be international, and the space transforms into an immersive experience. It's not huge--you can take in the whole exhibit in about 30 minutes. If you're into art, it is a worthwhile visit Side notes.. There's often a kid-friendly activity area in the back. Street parking in that area can be a nightmare, but it's pretty easy to get to via the ferry or the Blue Line.
