The Butterfly Place is such a cool spot to visit. You get to walk around a beautiful indoor garden filled with butterflies flying all around you--it's so peaceful. They have lots of different species, and if you're lucky, one might even land on you! It's also pretty interesting to see the exhibits about their life cycle. Great place for a family trip or just to unwind for an hour or two.

Butterflies can land on you. It's so special.

I adored it here. As a lover of butterflies, it was magical to me. My children love butterflies. Sadly, they found they did not like being close enough to be touched. Thankfully, there is a big window indoors (pictured) for anyone who wants to see the garden but not be so close. They still had fun. To give you an idea of size: The Butterfly Place is small, and you could walk through it in 5 minutes easily. But it is lovely, and the idea is *not* to speed through. The idea is to take a break from rushing, to slow down and really see. First, your kids (or your kid-at-heart-self) can snap a photo of yourself in a butterfly cutout. Very cute. Next, a friendly staff member greets you in a sweet gift store and gives you a scavenger hunt printout. It is just a few questions, and the answers are hidden within the exhibit. (At the time we went, they gave a discount on a future visit after you returned your completed sheet.) After that is a small exhibit room. There are butterfly and moth facts to read. You'll see an enclosure with butterflies in various stages of eclosing: inside the crysalises, emerging, stretching their wings. There are remarkable non-butterfly creatures here as well: walking stick bugs, giant prickly stick insects, rhinoceros beetles, and even frogs! The last part is the best: the indoor butterfly garden. It is not large, but the joy is not in speeding through. You can make slow laps or sit on the bench. There are tons of butterflies in flight and sitting on flowers. They cross in front of you from flower to flower, at knee-level and face level and also above you by the ceiling. There are many kinds. Some have astonishing clear wings! Others are huge and vibrant and blue--those fly slowly by. It's kindof amazing that they can stay afloat without flapping as much as the others. You can stand over by where the butterflies are congregating the most, and one or more may land on you to rest. It is the most amazing and magical feeling!

Oh is this a wonderful escape. Sue was our guide inside the butterfly house and she knows so much and is so peaceful. What a perfect experience.

This is a neat place to check out. I suggest wearing shorts & a tank top as well as bringing a water bottle--the butterfly room is extremely warm. Once you pay the admission fee, there are a few different things you can do. The main attraction is where the you walk with butterflies as they fly around. This is the room that's very hot. You walk along little paths, and there are some benches to sit on. They do not seem to limit the number of people in there at a time, so it felt crowded. But because it's so hot, people don't seem to stay longer than 10-15 minutes at a time. There is also a room where you can learn about different things and watch a 15 minute video if you chose to do so. Because it's so hot in the actual butterfly room, we would step out into the video room to cool down for a minute, then venture back inside. Once you pay, you can seemingly walk in and out of the room as you please. There is also a gift shop you can visit. It's a fun outing but for the price I expected there to be a little more to see. There is also no food on property so we went to Kimball Farms for lunch and ice cream after. I suggest doing both in the same day as they are so close.

Brought my nephew here on a no school day. The room is small but there are so many things to look at! We enjoyed the museum, the cute little quail that are running around the room, and trying to identify all the butterflies!

A simple Google search recommended this butterfly sanctuary and it didn't disappoint. The facility has ample parking and an adequate amount of outdoor seating. The actual butterfly building is quite spacious and is clearly marked and easy to walk in. The building the butterflies are housed in is quite warm (it has to be to match the natural habitat) so I would recommend not wearing layers of clothing during your visit. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and knowledgeable about the facility and other nearby attractions. The staff also mentioned that local restaurants can actually deliver to the facility since they don't offer food on site. For $14 you get all day access to the butterflies. I don't know a better deal around where you are guaranteed to have a really great experience regardless of age and ability.

This is a very cute and educational little visit. It is enclosed, so was perfect on a rainy day. A small area where you can see the different catapillars, then you walk into the open atrium where there are flowers, free range butterfly and small quails roaming. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.

Amazing for adults, amazing for kids, it was amazing! huge section of butterflies, little finches and quails were so cute. Really great place. VISIT!

What a pleasant restful place to visit. Take time to see the film, to ask questions of knowledgeable staff and take pictures. We loved the newborn Chinese guinea hens and the wide variety of large and smaller butterflies. Senior and veterans discounts lower the $14 admission fee to $12 and $10 respectively.

The Venue & Team: Having grown up in the next town over, Gibbet Hill has always held a special place in my heart. It's where my husband and I went on early dates and celebrated anniversaries, so when we got engaged, I dreamed of a beautiful winter wedding at The Barn. I honestly assumed it would be outside of our budget, but after touring multiple venues, I quickly realized that Gibbet Hill was right on par in price--and incredibly willing to work with any budget. Nothing else compared. Nothing checked all the boxes the way The Barn did. Shoutout Bree--our coordinator, planner, event manager, director of sales, and overall wedding miracle worker. She is FANTASTIC, and I cannot speak highly enough of her. From our very first phone call, she walked me through every option, every detail, every add‑on--with endless patience. I had quite a bit of anxiety around planning, especially since we didn't start until about seven months before the big day, but she made the entire experience seamless. With 300+ weddings under her belt, she knew exactly how to guide us. She helped us design our menu, advised us on where to splurge or save, coordinated the timeline with all our vendors, and even bustled my dress. She made sure we had a quiet 15‑minute moment together after the ceremony--just us, taking it all in with appetizers. She went above and beyond in every single way to make our day easy, special, and absolutely stress‑free. We LOVED working with her. The Space: The barn itself is stunning--warm, elegant, and adaptable. It's spacious enough for a 200‑person celebration yet intimate enough for smaller weddings. We had 75 guests, and the way they set up and decorated the room made it feel breathtakingly beautiful. The Food: OUT. FREAKING. STANDING. Our guests are still talking about it six months later. We chose family‑style dining, and it was such a fun, interactive experience--everyone loved getting to try everything rather than choosing just one entrée. The steak, the fish, the mushroom cream tortellini (incredible!), the broccolini, the mashed potatoes--everything was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. I would recommend the family‑style option a thousand times over. The Staff: Every single person--from the waitstaff to the bartenders to the behind‑the‑scenes team--was phenomenal. A special shoutout to Shannon, our dedicated server for the night. She kept our drinks topped off, reminded me to switch into comfortable shoes, and made sure we were having the best day of our lives. If you're considering getting married at The Barn at Gibbet Hill--do it. Planning with their team is smooth, easy, and completely stress‑free. It was everything we dreamed of and more. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Smashburger: The signature item here is a double smash that gets a perfect crusting from the flat top, with adequate seasoning, placed in a very fresh roll (not the overdone potato roll), and accompanied by precision thin-sliced vegetables and creamy, tangy sauce. Everything is original and everything works. You don't get the same juiciness as a pub burger, but it's plenty moist and has nice crunch and good beef flavor. It's the ultimate ensemble piece where every ingredient shines. Comes with very crisp and very lengthy fries. Can upgrade to potato tots, but the fries are better. Chicken Tenders: Here there's less crispness but the namesake tenderness comes through, as does the fiercely piquant Buffalo sauce. Not elite, but certainly good, and very good value. Best item to have with a beer from the bar. Nachos: Crisp and warm in the chips, light on the toppings. In fairness, I didn't try any of the protein options (my wife is vegetarian), so maybe that's the way to go, but nothing special here. Tenders are the better beer snack. Steak and Cheese: Solid. Moist. Fresh Roll. Ham Chowder: This was a special and it was indeed special. One of the best soups I ever had, studded with a profusion of tender roasted ham chunks, along with bacon and I think tinier bits of onion and celery. That cure flavor came through big time. Salty, perhaps, but no problem. I bought extra to take home. It's a country club, but don't be intimidated. It's not so much a bunch of stuffy Ted Knights; it's more like a Knights of Columbus. Very low key. Very affordable, even the beers at the bar.
