My friend and I enjoyed our first visit to Santa Fe. The Deep Dive History walking tour was a good overall orientation of the Plaza downtown area to help us orientate to the sites we wish to visit. Owner Jerard Vigilante was very easy to contact and flexible with our schedule due to weather issues. Guide Paul Hillman was entertaining, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I also found it was the best value for a general walking tour of any that I researched.

Jerard gave a fantastic tour for a few girlfriends and me last weekend. He was fun, funny and extremely knowledgeable about the history of Santa Fe. We went to a few restaurants around the Railyard and ate amazing, local New Mexican cuisine. The sopapillas with the Christmas sauce was a real highlight!! The local beer and cider wasn't half bad either 10/10 would recommend

We took this tour on a weekday morning with guide Carol and were very disappointed. She provided…read morescant historical context or really any information on the social, cultural, and economic development of the town and region. She had difficulty telling a linear story and mostly related personal anecdotes about her two children, her husband, her home and which bars served the best Margaritas. She promoted various shops, the owners of which were ostensibly her "friends," and filled the tour time with similar trivia. For five years, I was a tour guide in San Francisco and we received extensive training on how to provide a meaningful experience for our walkers, both substantively and through effective presentation techniques. I've taken walking tours in many cities, and in my experience this was about as poor a tour as I've seen. The fee of $40 was exorbitant in relation to the experience; even if it had been free, I would have considered it largely a waste. Perhaps the other guides in the company are better, but based on this tour, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

My complaint about the Historical Walks offering is that the guide, Allan, really wasn't someone who's a paranormal expert or buff, but a historian who seemed to have a very hard time staying on topic--ghosts. He was extremely long-winded about all kinds of historical minutiae, but short on ghost stories. We spent the first hour, an HOUR--just sitting in the La Fonda Hotel lobby while he droned on and on with the "introduction." I literally dozed off. And I love ghost tours and history. The ghost walk was very short--the old hospital and La Posada, and the hanging tree. I'm sure there's lots more in the area, isn't there? At La Posada he spent more time talking about the furniture and chandeliers than the ghost stuff. There are plenty of historical tours, but someone looking for the ghost tour is getting a short shrift with this one. This guide, Allan, seemed to think he was teaching a class rather than acting as a tour guide. In short, it was boring. Also, the promotional cards and website insist guest make advance reservations. I had to call twice to get a call back, and the person calling was extremely rude. Really poor customer service, and a disappointing ghost walk. There are other operators offering ghost walks, including one called "Original Ghost Walk of Santa Fe." I'm going to check that out. In other cities and towns, it is often the original one who is the real expert.

Jose gave us a great tour, the food was great and the group was fantastic. Street Taco's, Enchilada's and a cup of Green Chilie, outstanding. Did I mention the Margaritas and Churro for desert..... What was "great" and made the tour was Jose's knowledge of Santa Fe, the food and culture; even recommending a great steak restaurant! We could have gotten lost in Santa Fe for several weeks eating and enjoying the culture. The food was the media for the tour, but the entertainment was Jose! Thanks!

Our guide, Jose, was absolutely phenomenal! He has so much knowledge of Santa Fe and the food scene, and you can definitely tell he is passionate about the cuisine there. He was extremely personable, funny, and was happy to answer any questions and tell us lots of stories! Really just an overall joy! It was also super fun that everyone in the group was visiting from out of town and many of us loved doing food tours in other cities so we got to swap food tour stories and whatnot. Here's a list of our stops and what we had: La Fogata Grill - taco and margarita Del Charro - enchilada with both sauces and margarita San Francisco St Bar and Grill - half of a green chili cheeseburger and margarita Senor Murphy Candymaker - various sweet treats Everything was absolutely phenomenal - I really can't pick a favorite dish because they were all so yummy. But the Del Charro meal convinced me to always order "Christmas" sauce the rest of my stay in Santa Fe. My favorite margarita was definitely the one at San Francisco! And also, there was one person in the group that didn't drink and they were very accommodating to give him some fancy mocktails instead of cocktails (or boring soda!). Thanks for making my birthday extra special with some fantastic bites and sips!

Mary transformed what could have been an overwhelming stroll into a curated, engaging, and educational experience. She guided us through a moveable story of Santa Fe: Native and Indigenous art galleries where we learned more about Santa Fe's history, an artist-in-residence home where we discovered how Canyon Road developed, and contemporary galleries where she introduced us to owners and working artists. Along the way, she also pointed out additional galleries, eateries, cafés, and gardens worth returning to--I took notes and can't wait to visit again. Mary was knowledgeable, friendly, and flexible, making the tour both interactive and accessible. She seemed to know everyone--every gallery owner we visited greeted her--which made us feel like we were walking in with a VIP or a local celebrity. As a matter of fact, I'd book this tour with Mary again on my next visit just to explore more galleries we didn't get to this time. The behind-the-scenes insights, personal introductions, and Mary's thoughtful curation elevated the entire experience and greatly reduced my FOMO. Booking the tour was seamless as well! The operators were a pleasure to work with, very responsive, and flexible in helping us arrange the experience. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to go beyond simply "looking at art" and really connect with the history, people, and culture of Canyon Road.
