Consistently great. I have been coming to Vilardo's since they opened their doors, and from day one they have hit the mark. You'd be hard pressed to find a higher quality deli and that's saying a lot given the concentration of reliable Italian delis in the area. With that being said, the best kept secret is their catering. Without fail, guests rave about the food and always ask where it came from. And these are guests that know their food! Stopped into Vilardo's Deli for lunch and ordered the Chicken Cutlet #4. What a sandwich. Crispy chicken cutlet topped with fresh mozzarella, arugula, roasted red peppers, and a balsamic glaze which brought everything together just perfectly. The bread was fresh and had just the right crunch. Service was quick and efficient, parking was easy, and the location is super convenient. Sometimes the simplest lunches end up being the best. I have been going to other spots in Nutley for years for sandwiches and I just went here a few months ago just to mix it up. I've been back 3 times already. I highly recommend the special with chicken cutlet, prosciutto and a glaze. So damn good. This beats many of the other sandwich spots in Nutley and we have really good ones. read more

Place is so nice! The owner and staff are very attentive to their customers! The sandwiches are AMAZING! So much flavor and so many different options to choose from! If you're in or around Nutley and need a great sandwhich I would definitely recommend Vilardos. We tried the number 9 and 10 and both were really good and gigantic for $14 I think the value is really good. The food here is spot on. Very good sandwiches. Reasonable prices. The salads get overlooked which are very good, but get your dressing on the side or it will be mushy. Nice atmosphere overall. The neighborhood kids come and all the staff are real nice to them and it has the 3rd spaces feel of old school spots where you could hang. My biggest gripe is that their line system makes no sense. They make you wait to place you order. They could just switch to a ticket system. The old guy gets grumpy when new customers don't understand their silly system and he is kind of a jerk about it. Also it would be nice if they had an online presence but I understand not giving greedy Uber eats 25% of your ticket. I'm not criticizing them there. read more

Had to try this deli after seeing some reviews and by word of mouth in Nutley. The deli is very nice inside, it's clean and bright with everything you would expect from an Italian deli. It is bigger than it looks on the outside with a coffee station and small grocery area in back. I ordered the #5 which is roast beef with Swiss, arugula, red onion, and horseradish mayo which was really good. Price wasn't bad and guy behind counter was friendly. I also bought an Italian nougat bar from on the counter and it was pretty good too. I've been living in Nutley for a few years and still haven't found a deli that makes a bad sandwich. This place means I have failed to find one yet again. It's a nice neighborhood deli and I will be back to try other items. read more

I pride myself on trying every Italian deli within a 10 mile radius of my home and Yelp recently let me know about one in Nutley that hadn't been on my radar. And with the help of Siri I found my way to Vilardo's (off the beaten path and nowhere near the crowded part of town). First impression: very clean, good sandwich board/selection, actually room to move (unlike some Italian delis which are packed to the gills with product), and a small army behind the counter doing their best to keep up with orders. As a creature of habit I have my 'staples' I always get and as soon as I got home I tried was the rapini. It was a bit strange to have so much precisely diced garlic... raw, when most places have theirs roasted, soft and brown. But I love broccoli rabe and it was mighty toothsome (who in the year 2020 actually uses that word, right?!). Pepperoni 'n mozz bread - fantastic Breaded chicken cutlets - good (but unable to secure a spot in my Top 3) Cold cuts - Thumann's (!) and no shoddy slicing/packaging (what's worse than getting home and your cold cuts are hacked and sad and unmanageable?) Definitely another really good deli that's now added into my weekend rotation when I need to stock up on good eats. read more

Where to start? Can I just say I already can't wait to go back?? So this place is in the middle of a regular street in nutley on its own, so street parking and plenty of it. It's super clean and well lit inside. Really beautiful showcase of the food too. You walk in and there's all the premade good stuff and cold cuts. Then towards the back is your fresh pasta, gourmet pastas and a coffee bar! So I decided on grabbing a salad. I LOVE that you get to fill out what you want on a paper for your very own salad. Sometimes you don't remember everything if you're just yelling out things to the guys behind the counter. This is definitely a huge selling point for me. My friend got their soup, she said it was good but that she's try a sandwich next time. We also got fresh mozzarella and let me tell you! So great!! One of my favorites for sure. So fresh and perfectly salted. We also splurged on a rice ball, very good but next time I'm definitely gonna ask for a little sauce on the side. It would be perfect with a little tomato or vodka sauce. Of course we had to pick up something sweet too, their chocolate chip pumpkin loaf. Forget itttttt! So good, moist and just the right amount of chocolate chips. They also have every type of nougat you can imagine. I'm such a huge fan so I can't wait to try them all! This was a great find on our way out to a hike. Super friendly staff in a quiet neighborhood. We ordered four sandwiches and a pasta salad, and had more than enough food for the 4 of us, getting a mix of breakfast sandwiches and subs. First off, the subs are huuuge. Vilardo's is a super cozy, authentic Italian deli/market. Their food is delicious, service is great, and the place is adorably set up and very clean. I tried the roasted veggie sandwich with fresh mozz and a fig balsamic glaze. Its was delicious, and that glaze really put the cherry on top. Their soups are also great! You can tell they're homemade, and they're a great, healthy option for the kids. They also sell an assortment of imported products in the market, which definitely provide plenty of inspiration if you want to try making your own Italian meal at home. Lastly, they also sell freshly prepared meals and ravioli that are packed and ready to-go....just in case the cooking thing doesn't work out for you.
