This hidden gem was a 10 minute ride from the resort I stood at while in PR, I only regret not having come across it sooner. My boys and I decided to walk the shore with the intentions on trying one of the restaurants alongside the beach for lunch and settled on this spot after seeing their ratings. They have both indoor and outdoor seating which was a huge relief given we were in much need of AC. The place wasn't crowded but it had its share of people- deff looked like a popular spot for the locals. Staff were welcoming and seated us promptly. The menu is extensive with so many options to choose from it made it hard to pick. I decided to leave it in the waitresses hand to suggest an app and entree for myself. She recommended the mini acapurrias that came paired with a guava sauce and the shrimp mofongo made from a mixture of sweet plantains and tosotones-it was mouth watering good. I'll have her to blame for the longing I'll have to endure of such an incredible dish. I have personally never finished any mofongo but this one I damn bear licked the plate. The shrimp was juicy, fresh, the garlic not overbearing. The amount of caldo was just portioned so as kiss the amount of mofongo served. My kiddos loved the mini alcapurrias. They were crisp, hot and paired deliciously with the guava sauce. My eldest had the churrasco which he described as being juicy and tender and my little guy had the chicken tenders and fresh cut fries which were a treat. We were lucky to hit 4 home runs. Pork in onions, with an outstanding sauce. It made it around the table. Lamb Chops- tender and tasty little chops. Cod fish- excellent, large portion of tender cod T-bone and filet mignon were what you would expect in a high end restaurant. Juicy and cooked to order. Grilled lobster was a disappointment. It appeared steamed, not grilled. No evidence of grilling. I expect an outer crispness. We also had a variety of appetizers that satisfied. Highly recommend the Fried whole Red Snapper as was cooked to perfection and if you are a little nervous with the eyes staring at you, order with head off. Mixed experience at Villa Dorado D'Alberto. Service: 2 stars We wanted to eat outside and stood by the entrance for a while; finally had to go into the indoor part of the restaurant for anyone to notice us and help us get seated. Service was spotty; server was pleasant but mostly absent. We went for long periods without anyone coming over; had to go to bar ask our waitress for more water. She never checked on us and instead spent the whole time doing cleanup or something behind the bar. We asked about dessert, she brought a menu and never came back. We had to flag another server to take our order. Food: also mixed: ranged from 5 to 2. My husband had the grouper fillet with onions. One of the best grouper dishes he's had this trip (he's been eating grouper every day!). Also thumbs up on the rice and beans. Dessert was terrible, though. So-called tiramisu was a dry, stiff gelatinous hunk with no mascarpone and very little flavor overall. My Sicilian husband voted it worst tiramisu ever. I had the cod stew with chick peas and sausage. Nice flavor in a savory tomato broth but way, way too salty. Finished it but mouth had that oversalted feeling all evening. Tostones were ok. Dessert of coconut flan was like a firm coconut custard pie without the crust. Very sweet as expected, but didn't have the softer texture I'm used to for flan. Atmosphere: There was a stark contrast between the rustic, plastic chair setup outdoors (next to active pool tables) and the cool, quiet and elegant inside dining room. Didn't seem like the same restaurant. Also, there was a live salsa band that started playing in the outdoor area while we were there. While in principle having live local music is a nice addition to a dining experience, they were so loud it was actually unpleasant. You couldn't talk with or be heard by your dining partner or server. I ended up putting earplugs in. Overall, might go back for the grouper but otherwise wouldn't recommend. read more

I was staying in Puerto Rico for a family vacation. I was dying for some delicious food and my uncle took us here. As an appetizer we got sorullitos and croquetas de bacalao. They were so amazing. I would order this again anyday. My uncle got the mofongo with Carne cerdo frito. He let me try it and omg it was so good. The pork was perfectly seasoned and crispy. My uncle ate the entire thing. My sister ordered the whole red snapper fried with tostones. The fish was huge, seasoned well and fresh. I tried it as well and omg it was to die FOR. I got the mofongo with camarones in a creole sauce. I cannot even tell you how much joy that delish gave me. Bought back childhood memories from when my grandmother used to make shrimps like that. It was so good. I would really recommend this place. It isnt FANCY but its down to earth and the food is really good. Come here for some good PR food. read more

All in all, it was an okay place to eat. The reason for the 2 stars is because when we first got here (a group of 8) we waited a while for an available table. When we finally ordered, we waited another long while for our food, to which did not all come at the same time. Also, I asked for my churrasco medium and it came well well well done. I did not eat it at all. One of my friends shared their dish with me. As im doing this review, I am still waiting on my papa fritas. There is easy parking, indoor and out door seating and a few pool tables to play games at. The mofongo was fine. Nothing great but it did the job as a meal. I would say this is a better place to get drinks at but a super fun place to stop due to the location of the joint. Note- bars like this one don't have sprites on NYE night. Only hotels are allowed to have them. I am not quite sure why. read more

This review is really a 3.5 but I rounded up. Not too many choices for a nicer place to eat dinner at in the Dorado area but this fits the bill pretty good. We got there around 7pm on a Friday nite and it was just in time. By the time we left around 9 the place was packed. The seafood selection is plentiful. Actually their menu is huge. I had the chillo(snapper) fish with maduros(ripe plantains) and house salad. It was real good. Everyone at the table had some type of fish and they were all pleased. It was 6 of us in total. The pina coladas with or w/o were excellent. Service was a little slow but I expected it to be that way. If you are not familiar with the area I suggest you get here before the sun goes down. There is plenty of parking and bring a jacket because they have the ac kicking @ 65 in the main dining room. They also have an outside area where the DJ was starting to play some tunes when we left and I am sure it turns into an all nite party. read more

The atmosphere and live music is amazing. Drinks were good. I'm writing a bad review because our waitresses was so bad. I've never had worse service in my life. First of all, I am vegan, I understand this is a meat and fish based restaurant but my boyfriend loves fish so we picked this spot. I told the waitress multiple times that I do not eat fish or meat and I asked her if the beans comes with meat in it. She said no it's just beans. So I ordered white rice with beans. When my meal came , there was pork in it. She told me she'll get me beans without meat and then came back and told me they don't sell beans without meat so I asked for boxes and my bill after waiting 55 minutes for food I couldn't even eat. To top it off, I ordered "scratch" plantains. I Asked her if it was just plantain and she described it to me as mashed up and deep fried plantain. I took a bite later on when I felt hungry as I took it to go, and tasted salmon. There was salmon inside. She failed to tell me that there was meat inside after I told her specifically I don't eat fish. I haven't eaten fish in 10 years and am very upset. When we first got there i also asked her for water and vinegar for my salad and she disappeared. I went looking after 10-15 mins and saw her tasting drinks behind the bar. I am appalled by her service and very disappointed because like I said the atmosphere and actual bar / restaurant is awesome. read more

I'm giving this place 5 stars with in the style of this restaurant (small beach side restaurant ) I went to a few other such restaurants while in PR, and this was my favorite. The waiter was super attentive and pleasant, as were all other staff. Prices are with in range of other restaurants in the areas. We started off with an amazing seafood soup. It seemed like a bisque but lighter , and with real crab. My wife had fried pork and it was huge. The sweet plantain were perfect. We finished with some flan that was very tasty. Just went there last week with my family to celebrate my sister's graduation. They offer a broad range of Puerto Rican cuisine with plenty of seafood choices. I had "Dorado al Ajillo con Tostones", which is mahi mahi with garlic butter sauce and a side of fried plantains, and thought it was delicious. My family had lobster, sirloin steak, flank steak, and mofongo (which is mashed plaintains stuffed with whatever ingredient you'd like - my sister had it with shrimp) and they all loved their plates. It's a little on the expensive side, but a good introduction to PRican food if you've never been to the island and would like to start trying the local food. Even if the plates aren't 100% Puerto Rican (ahem, the steaks...), the restaurant found a way to infuse a little bit of culture into them, either by bringing "arroz con gandules" (rice with beans) with them, or making sure they added "tostones o platanos maduros" (fried plantains or fried ripe plantains). A very BIG plus: the seafood was fresh and tasted very good. Rather refreshing, if you ask me. If you get the chance to visit this restaurant, make sure you try ANYTHING that has plantains in it - you can't leave the island without trying one of our main ingredients! They also had a good dessert selection, and I'm very happy to say that they were all traditional desserts. Overall, I recommend it if you are interested in trying PRican food and have a couple of extra $$ to spend. read more

What an amazing restaurant!! We came in here and had Mofongo with Lobster and my husband had their Mahi Mahi special. First off, they were so friendly, which is so nice! Secondly, their service was quick, but attentive! We were starving after a day of golf and it was just perfect!! We found a great parking spot since it is next to the beach! This restaurant is pretty upscale, I think, by Dorado standards. It's nestled down by a public beach in the same vicinity as a few more casual cafe/bars, which were a pretty happening spot to be on a Sunday night... apparently, Sunday is live music night! This made it an adventure finding street parking, though we did happen upon a space a few blocks away. Once inside the restaurant, you could still hear the bass from the band playing next door at a beachfront bar. This, combined with the NFL game playing in the bar, made for a less than peaceful dinner. When you're eating out with a six-month-old baby, though, sometimes it's nice to not have to worry about making a little noise! The food was pretty good. I had the chicken mofongo, which was a generous helping of chicken in a flavorful sauce covered by a layer of mashed and baked(?) plantains. It was a great deal for under $15, and I got two full meals out of it - ate the rest for lunch the next day! My brother had the Creole lobster (Lagusta a la Criolla), which was okay, though the lobster was a bit chewy. My sister-in-law tried the Camarados (shrimp) enchiladas, and the shrimp was delicious - I think I preferred it to the lobster. The enchiladas were definitely NOT anything like the Mexican-style she was expecting, though. It was really just shrimp and sauce and some veggies, without any type of real bread or tortilla. The side salads were unexciting, iceburg lettuce and a couple store-bought salad dressings brought to the table in their original bottles. The garlic bread was a plain white bread, but we scarfed it down hungrily. We also had a bottle of Chilean wine that was pretty decent. Our server was helpful and the food was served in a timely manner. The place seemed clean and bathrooms were nicely maintained. In the end, though, I felt like the price tag of just over $100 with tip seemed pretty steep given the atmosphere and quality of food. It wasn't a disappointing meal, just overpriced for what you're getting. If I ever returned to Dorado, I think I would eat somewhere else. read more

Cute little place but lacking in customer service and flavor. We both ordered the lobster and it was so tough and chewy I was unable to eat it. This was obvious by the amount of food left on my plate. When the server came and saw he said a rude comment about me being so skinny and implying this as the reason for my left over food. As tourists in a small local part of town, I chose not to acknowledge this. However, when I return to Puerto Rico, I will not be returning here. I am giving them 3 stars in hopes they see this feedback and implement changes. It is such a cute place and could have amazing potential. read more

Went on Sunday for the first time . The place was packed yet they had a table available right away . Live music was playing in the billiard room adjacent to our table which made it for some fun dining ! I ordered the Mofongo stuffed with seafood and it was awesome ! For drinks red sangria was my choice and it was really good ! Parking was a bit tight due to the place being packed but readily available. I recommend calling ahead on weekend evenings to reserve a table and it is definitely worth it ! read more

The food was amazing! We had a whole read snapper in sauce and it was cooked to perfection. The fish balls were super tasty. The rice "mamposteao" was heavenly. We also had mofongo and it was no disappointment. The service was very nice. We requested tap water and we were given a small pitcher. For dessert we had 3 leches, flan de coco and cheese flan.
