The morning after we arrived, we walked to the Vatican/Holy See and then walked to the Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, and many great neighborhoods and restaurants. We arrived via the prearranged driver and limo van, which the property offered us. At 40 euro, it represented a great bargain (the cheapest alternative we found was $168 USD), and the driver was professional and helpful. We had a long wait for the manager/owner of the property to show up, which gave us a time to scope out the neighborhood. We finally were able to check-in, get our stuff situated in the room, and go out and walk around. The complaints would be the street noise, and the hardness of the beds - if you're used to hard bedding, and have earplugs, you'll do fine. We also had to leave suddenly, as new tourists were arriving to stay, even though we had indicated to the manager/owner that we needed a place to put our luggage while we toured the coliseum. The breakfast is worth noting, because it is great. The property gives you passes to a local cafe, which had very friendly great service, good coffee, and delicious food. My favorite "perk" of staying here was the printed color map of the area and the recommendations of the property of what to see, do and where to eat. That was really fantastic and we kept that in our pocket everywhere we went. Since Wifi and cell service in and out of buildings was spotty, having a paper map was great. The restaurants in the immediate area of the location are great, and Trastevere is known for having fun and delicious restaurants and is a wonderful neighborhood to explore and enjoy. Overall, this was a solid choice to stay at if you are looking for a great alternative to hotels.

It's a small place - 6 rooms all together - and it feels private and cozy. My partner and I were traveling here with his family (so we stayed in 3 rooms for three nights) and then just the two of us returned for a final night in Rome a week or so later before heading home to the US. Both times, we were greeted like family. The friendly, well-spoken staff here (front reception speaks fantastic English, and we communicated with everyone else with ease as well, with very little Italian in our vocabulary) were some of the most accommodating people I've ever encountered. It really felt like they were friends welcoming us into their home, asking how our day and our lunch was. David was the shining star - he made outstanding lunch and dinner reservations (and recommendations) for the 6 of us for most of our stay in Rome. Definitely take his restaurant suggestions. Everyone, though, was eager to help in every way they could, including helping us navigate public transportation. If the people here and caliber of service they provide really are the cake, the lovely, fresh rooms were the icing. Speaking of cake, breakfast offerings were diverse and delicious - pastries, tarts, cereal, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, sliced meats and cheese, toast, fresh fruit, espresso (Stefania made some of THE best cappuccino we tasted in Rome) and coffee drinks, juice. The eating area was adorable. I would return to Papa Vista in a heartbeat and recommend them to anyone in Rome looking for a cool and comfortable place with caring, amiable hosts at the front desk.

I made reservations at the hotel ahead of time, and someone from the hotel emailed me to ask when I would be coming in. I gave them my flight info; they told me it would take us about an hour and a half to get to the hotel and that they'd be ready for us. Everything seemed all set. On our one and only day in Rome, we got to the hotel around 2 pm, ready to put our bag down, take a quick shower, and go exploring. The hotel's main door (street level) was locked. I rang and rang the bell. Nothing. Eventually, a resident of the building showed up, unlocked the door. I asked if we could go in, and he kindly held the door open. I saw the hotel was on the third floor, so we took the elevator up with him. Got to the hotel's door -- locked again. I banged on the door. No answer. There was a phone number for emergencies right outside. We took the number down and left. Thankfully, there's a hotel right across the street. I went in to ask the lady at the reception the awkward question -- could she call our hotel for us? (My phone doesn't work abroad.) She was kind enough to help. She got through to someone, who said she would call the hotel and said someone should be there. We went outside and waited for someone to open the hotel doors. Nope. Nothing. I went back to the kind receptionist when no one seemed to be coming or going, and right as I did, the Emergency Number Lady called back and asked to speak with me. She said someone could be there to let us in at 5:00 pm (reminder: the hotel was expecting us around 1:30-2 pm). I told her there was NO WAY we could do that, that we had one night in Rome and we were ready to shower and go out 45 minutes ago. She must not have listened because she said "maybe you can come back tomorrow." ?!? I told her again that we were in Rome for only ONE DAY and would be checking out the next morning. I made her cancel the reservation at no charge and booked a room at the hotel across the street with the kind receptionist and a much more welcoming staff.

The location is a little out of the way from the touristy areas of Rome, but it's nearby the Ciampino airport which is why we stayed here for a night.

They don't have a sign posted outside, which is kind of nice and descreet--but you'll known immediately from the high-tech entry, in which you need to "touch" the doorbell for entry. The employee was a joy during our check in. Not only did he recommend delicious restaurants nearby, but also bus and walking routes on a map for us. That was really nice of him. When you check in, you can also pay for 1 device to be covered for wifi per day--not expensive at all. He also put us in a family suite, which was 2 rooms connected in its own corner. This was really nice to have for our group of 4, so that we could go into each other's rooms in the evening. Otherwise, you can mooch off the free wifi in the lobby. The AC is good, but sometimes inconsistent. The room is pretty cramped, but very clean nonetheless. I liked that the outdoor shutters had a latch where you could open partially without spilling your privacy, but still allowing sunlight into the room. Tip: You can buy bottles of wine from the bar downstairs @ reasonable prices if you don't want to trek out. Breakfast is free every morning, which includes assorted ham slices, cheese slices, eggs, pastries, coffee, teas and water. Water is available in the same dispensers throughout the day. There is security all throughout the building, so you can rest easy here while in Rome.

My room didn't look exactly like the pictures (that's some expert lighting) but it was close enough. My upgraded family (queen and two doubles) was huge! For a quick second, I felt a twinge of guilt for taking up so much space as a singleton, but that quickly passed. I was at the end of my European adventure. It was time to let the American out. Gimmegimmegimme!!! The design of the room is modern European: high ceilings, low-to-the-floor beds, a large television, clean lines, large tile floor, big windows that open out to the street, a lot of white, nice-sized bathroom (very clean), a refrigerator, and a desk... The cleaning staff was on their game. In a room of so much white, I didn't find so much as an errant hair. The lighting was pretty low throughout the hotel (in the lobby, bar and breakfast area, too) which led to a gloomy feel. Fix the lighting and, I think, things improve immediately. Wifi was 2 euros a day or 5 euros for the whole stay. Termini is no Prati. This is a working neighborhood. People work here. They commute. They go home. There's some nice, local flavor but I wouldn't suggest it for day tripping. This will, likely, change in the future. See New York City. But, for now, the neighborhood's not the best. The hotel is an outlier but it stands alone (for the most part). Know this. Once the neighborhood catches up to the hotel, I'm confident that my estimation of the venue will change. I am also confident that the price will go up. If heading to the Eternal City on a budget, you could do far far worse.

Perfect for solo travelers and couples, but I wouldn't recommend going with friends or platonic business partners as it may be a bit cramped. There's a 24 hour front desk so you don't have to worry about late check in which is great for piece of mind. My front desk experience had someone speaking English, so check In was smooth for me. That said, that's nothing a Italian phrase book can't fix. In the mornings there's a street bazaar that occurs right outside and down the block. Clothes, gifts, electronics and food are offered during the day. Good for souvenirs that just don't say "Rome" on em.

Shared bathroom on the floor, which I was hesitant about, but only 3 rooms seemed to be sharing it and it was never a problem. Everything was really clean and neat. There's a little kitchenette near Emily's office area, and there was juice, milk, fruit and small snacks available to the guests. Emily provided us with a map of the city and suggested some routes and must-see spots. The breakfast is at a cafe around the corner and is very small - a croissant and some coffee or tea. From what I understand this is fairly common for B&B's in Rome. But hey, those croissants are incredible, wouldn't turn one down if that was all I was offered! We had a really good, if brief stay.
