We stayed in the newer Boathouse, in the Castaway Room on the right end, ground floor. The privacy and quiet were fantastic! The couples shower feels amazing and overlooks the river. We saw lots of birds and a gorgeous sunset and sunrise colors. Nature sounds enveloped us, as well as the sage fragrance of the garden. The bed was super comfortable, good support, and new. The center room looked like it had slightly more view and the bed was lower to the floor. Being on the end gave us more privacy and zero noises from other rooms. We liked being higher off the ground because we could see a little farther from there. The caretakers came on site to take care of the gardens and kitchen and checked in with us to make sure our stay was flawless. The main building is an old historic building and garden so expect quaint and period details. The nautical artifacts were amazing. There is a fantastic coffee shop called The Power Plant 5 minutes away for coffee, smoothies, avocado toast, beer and snacks, so we didn't mind having just the basic coffee and tea in the room. For us, the quiet, the views, the energy and location were perfect! If you stay at Captain's Inn, you can walk to the coffee shop, visit the shops in town, eat at the fantastic marina fresh seafood restaurants, and walk to the two touring places that take you to see the otters on kayak. We used Kayak Connect with was great, very easy and great guides. This is the closest and best place to stay to see the otters.

The Good: *Amazing views of the Salinas River hugging the edge of the ocean from the back rooms. *Community Patio deck to enjoy *Contactless check-in where they email you the door code the day-of. *HDTV w/ full compliment of channels *Keurig-like coffee maker in room *Fireplace for heat and romance The Meh: *They claim there's food in the main building for breakfast, but all we found were old expired granola bars. *I guess if you want a bottle of some alcohol waiting for you in your room, then you can let them know at least a day in advance--but ofc they don't tell you this until the *day of.* We spoke to another guest who had the same beef, but it's whatever I guess. *Wifi was abysmally slow but Carissa was able to stream a show before she went to bed, so put that in your pipe and smoke it. *Back house rooms have bathtubs only and we're not fans...0_o The Ugly: *Bed was incredibly rock hard and elevated 2' into the air so you need a stepstool to get on and off. My back was in shambles the next day. Conclusion: Honestly the views are almost worth coming back here for despite all the complaints, but the terrible bed would have me thinking twice...

Very spacious, easy to have 5+ adults simultaneously preparing dinner for 10 and then eating together. Since yelpers love details and are all about full disclosure.... I will say the only VERY small downsides are : 1) the upstairs and downstairs do not link from the inside making it a bit awkward to intermingle easily in either space (or wrangle up supplies!) without going outside first (but I suppose that's for renting out of both spaces to separate parties simultaneously?) 2) the driveway is a tiny bit difficult to discern given the placement of the mailbox but the pictures would really have helped me find it (lucky for me I recognized a friend's car!) 3) truly, there are nice views but I didn't see any super-close walkable path down to the beach which I assumed a "beach cabin" would have, but it seems like it would be a super quick drive, so there is definitely proximity! Based on our experience, I would never book an ocean-view room during these months again. We paid nearly $10,000 for two nights in one of the resort's premium ocean-view accommodations because the breathtaking ocean views shown throughout their website were the main reason we chose this property. Unfortunately, during our entire stay, the ocean view was completely hidden by dense fog. We never saw the spectacular view that was advertised and pictured online. What disappointed us most was the lack of transparency. The website showcases beautiful, clear ocean views but does not adequately prepare guests for the possibility that the view may be completely obstructed for an entire stay during certain times of the year. If guests are paying thousands of dollars specifically for an ocean-view room, they deserve clear information about the seasonal risk of persistent coastal fog so they can make an informed decision. Throughout our stay, we repeatedly asked staff whether the fog would clear. We were consistently told that it would likely clear within a few hours. Unfortunately, that never happened. The fog remained throughout our stay, and we never got to enjoy the ocean view we paid a premium for. What made this even more frustrating was that, after repeatedly being told by multiple staff members that the fog would clear soon, one employee later told us that they were not supposed to tell guests that the weather was expected to remain the same for several days and that these foggy conditions are common during this time of year. According to that employee, this type of weather often persists throughout much of the summer season. I cannot independently verify that statement, but if that information was accurate, it raises serious concerns about transparency. Guests spending thousands of dollars for an ocean-view room deserve honest information about the likelihood of actually seeing the ocean during their stay. The room itself also had maintenance issues. The bar sink was clogged, and the shower valve/faucet was loose and repeatedly fell while being used. We reported both problems, but neither was repaired during our stay. Staff apologized, but no one came to address the issues. For a property charging close to $5,000 per night, I expected much better communication, transparency, maintenance, and overall value. I fully understand that the weather is beyond the hotel's control. However, what is within their control is how honestly they communicate the risk of seasonal fog to potential guests. Had we known there was a realistic possibility of spending our entire stay looking at a wall of fog instead of the Pacific Ocean, we would have chosen different travel dates, a different room category, or a different destination altogether. The property itself is beautiful, but based on our experience, the value did not come close to justifying the cost. If an ocean view is important to you, think very carefully before booking an ocean-view room during the late spring and summer months.

I knew that going in. It was still starker than I expected. Start with the property. When that is the view off your deck, why go anywhere else? Stunning doesn't cover it. We hiked much of the grounds and every turn delivered something new. The kind of place that makes you slow down without even trying. Then the restaurant. Everything was perfect -- service, quality, execution. Much of the food sourced on property or from the surrounding community. My wife declared the salad the best she'd ever had. High praise for a salad. High praise, full stop. Special shout out to our server Yasmany and bartender Thomas -- both exceptional. What struck me most was how effortless the entire staff made it look. These are people who deal with guests from around the world, all arriving with high expectations of a high-end experience. And yet nothing felt forced. Nobody appeared to be trying to impress us. It was just perfect service, perfectly delivered. That's the rarest thing in hospitality. Highlight of the trip. Hands down. And I suspect, never to be repeated.

We reached the gate around 8pm in complete darkness, with no network service and no easy way to get in. The winding dirt road lined with grapevines felt a little intimidating in the dark, and I have to admit, we were feeling a bit unsure at first. But once we sorted out the gate and settled in, everything changed. The next morning, we headed out for a hike in the forest, and with the sunrise lighting up the hills, we finally saw just how incredibly beautiful this location truly is. What felt a little scary the night before transformed into rolling countryside, peaceful vineyards, and breathtaking views. When we returned from our hike, I began to fully appreciate and fall in love with the entire property. In the daylight, The Pinnacle Inn feels warm, welcoming, and truly like home. It felt more like staying with friends than going to a hotel or Inn. The Inn is gorgeous. Just a mile or so from the park and we had a pool, free breakfasts and wine tasting. Loved it. It was really special and Bill Brosseau makes great wine (son of Inn owners). Jon and Jan, Phil is a keeper! Thanks for sharing your lovely Inn. Pinnacles is very special and we loved our hike.
