Our stay at the Jabberwock Inn was a dream! The staff took great care of us. Special shout-out to Dorothy, who made sure everything was just so, and even helped get breakfast up to my wife when she came down with a bug. The hotel is SO cute. Breakfast, both savory and sweet, was delicious. The location was stunning. We spent a day going to the Aquarium and hiking in Point Lobos and both were top-notch. This was our second stay at the Jabberwock Inn in the Borogrove Room. This visit coincided with wet and rainy weather. We enjoyed sitting by the fire both in our room where we had a wonderful view, and downstairs where we savored our tasty breakfast and wine/hors d'oeuvres in the evening. The age of the house adds character to the experience and the staff and owners are there to ensure your expectations are exceeded. Just recently stayed here for a trip to explore the Big Sur area. It was great! Loved the different breakfasts each day and different apps in the evening! Rick and Suzanne were very accommodating to whatever you needed. The place was very cute and cool! Definitely going to miss it, spending time in the sun room is the absolute best! 3.5 Stars. Dorothy was an angel during my visit! The service she provided and caring attention to detail is not something you find in a larger hotel. She anticipated my needs and communicated with me daily to make sure I was ok. I would return in a heartbeat for that service. During my stay the owners were away on holiday I believe, and Dorothy was there all day until late at night but she never wavered or showed signs of fizzing out. She was relentlessly helpful from morning until night. I don't know how much she is being paid but this lady needs a raise and a bonus! Thank you Dorothy for making my stay a good one. This Victorian inn has 8 rooms I believe and I opted for the charming Borogove Room which is substantially larger than the other rooms with a separate seating area, fireplace, jacuzzi tub, and is more than $100 more per night but it was worth every cent and met my gotta-get-away-for-peace-and-quiet needs. There was plenty of hot water for showers. There were nice extras like sodas, juice, bottled water, a variety of teas, cookies, etc., included at no extra cost. At check-in my lovely room smelled like an old folks home with stale and musky odors of old furnishings and textiles compounded by windows that were never opened. It took 2 days, Lysol spray/wipes, citrus orange air freshener, and windows left open to combat the odor. The sheets had crumbs and weren't tightly tucked. However after notifying Dorothy housekeeping arrived within an hour to make the bed with fresh linens. The 2 dining room chairs in the room creak badly, are uncomfortable, and need replacing. As is the case with some Victorian homes the hardwood floors creak, the bedroom armoire door and drawer don't close easily or without noise, and there are no screens on the windows. So I battled a couple mosquitos but none of these were deal breakers. I would stay again especially for the service Dorothy provided. Wine and hors d'oeuvres hour is 5-6 pm daily. There was always a red and white wine available. I liked the light-bodied cabernet. The appetizers were varied, generous, and tasty - I especially liked the artichoke dips and smoked Gouda. Breakfast was kind of hit and miss. The egg dishes as explained to me were mixed with half and half milk. Reminded me of powdered eggs or a liquid egg substitute so I couldn't eat them but the pastries, crepes, and sausage were pretty good. I booked a massage with Ann at the time of my reservation. She goes to the hotel to provide massages for guests. Overall I would give her service a 2 out of 5. The massage itself was mediocre, and I was glad when it was over. She she was 25 minutes late! I was told she would arrive at my room 10 minutes prior to the confirmed appointment time to set up, etc. Not only did she not arrive early but she arrived about 15 minutes after my massage should have started. She walked in and told me to "sit over there while I (she) set up." No explanation or apology for being late! After I asked if she knew what time the Inn told guests to expect her she said yes, 10 minutes before the appointment time. She then said she apologized for being late. I'm thinking nooo you didn't but ok. Ann brought a massage table, a bright yellow fitted sheet, a charcoal gray flat sheet, and a blue blanket all stuffed inside the massage table carrying case. The sheets and blanket were balled up when she took them out of the bag. They were wrinkled so badly I was appalled, and they smelled of old cigarettes. Yuck! Then she took a pillow case off one of my bed pillows to cover the headrest on her massage table. That is what I laid my face on. I was turned off but really needed a massage, and I had prepaid the Inn for her services. After the massage she again balled up the sheets and blanket, and stuffed them back into the bag! In hind sight I should have just forfeited the $145 and sent her packing when she arrived that late. Sorry I can't recommend her at this time. Street parking is available right out front but there is a parking lot with a steep driveway. There are 3 floors but no elevator so the upstairs bedrooms are not wheelchair accessible. I don't know if there are any bedrooms on the 1st floor. read more

And everything was as good or better than advertised. We stayed in the Borogove room for two nights. The grounds, the Inn and the room were absolutely beautiful and such a great place to relax. Rick and Suzanne were wonderful hosts. The late afternoon hors d'oeuvres, homemade cookies and breakfasts were as scrumptious as their website promised. They provided an environment where we always had the option to be comfortably on our own, but interacting with the other guests during hors d'ourvres time and breakfasts turned out to be a highlight of our trip. We stayed at Jabberwock Inn and the moment we entered their grounds we knew this was a magical place. They even had Bocce Ball! The Inn is spotless and so charming with many different areas to relax. My husband and I stayed for one night. Dorothy greeted us and gave us a tour. The inn was quite charming. I loved every little section of the home to the theme bookshelves for either Lewis Carroll to Steinbeck. We stayed on the first floor near the kitchen. We had the option to enter our room through the main We had our own entry by the garden and even a view of the ocean. If it wasn't overcast the view would definitely beautiful. The room was very charming to the fireplace to the decor. Just FYI the room does not offer a TV but there are tons of books all around the first floor area and even board games. I do love how it's a good way to disconnect from electronics and to just enjoy your time there. The next morning we had a delicious breakfast and homemade juice. The owner was actually serving us which I was surprised. He was super nice as well. You're within walking distance to the cannery of Monterey and even to the aquarium. Food - AMAZING! Everything from the pastries to the quiche to the orange juice! The OJ was just something else. I wish they bottled it and I was able to take it home! LOL Everything was incredible and they made our entire stay so enjoyable. Their proximity to everything was perfect and their rooms are soooo cozy. We highly recommend this place. Waking up to look out our room's windows as the sun first peeked over the Gabilan Mountains and lit up the sky over Monterey Bay will be a lasting memory. We have fallen in love with the Jabberwock Inn. Rick & Dorothy are the hosts. They were so accommodating & kind. We were trying to make it for hors d'oeuvre & wine on Friday (5-6p). We ran into some traffic, so Dorothy placed it all in our room for us to enjoy when we arrived. All of the food was amazing. The care & attention that is provided is over-the-top the best! I thought I'd done a pretty exhaustive search of hotel and B&B options in Monterey this past weekend and right before booking a room at a hotel on Cannery Row, I came across the Jabberwock Inn and decided to book it instead. I received an email about a week or so confirming the details of our visit and checking for any food allergies or restrictions which was nice and a sign to come of how thoughtful Rick, Suzanne and their team are. My bf and I arrived a few hours before check-in (3pm) with the intention of just dropping off our bags and grabbing lunch, but Suzanne welcomed us and said our room was ready, so we got the tour and were able to settle in to our room before heading out. As others have said, the house is simply charming. It was still decorated for Christmas and it made the first night in the torrential downpour feel all the more warm and cozy. We were at the house for both breakfasts and happy hours and everything was so delicious. They alternate between a sweet and savory breakfast each morning, the wine at happy hour was tasty, and the appetizer plates were a treat. We interacted the most with Dorothy during our stay and she was a phenom - so friendly and helpful and it was just nice to know she was there if we needed something. My only regret of our stay is that it rained so we weren't able to enjoy the gardens or bocce ball court, but the abundance of windows made for great viewing (both when we could and couldn't see the ocean). Our second stay here and it is truly a special place. Certainly one of our all-time favorites. It reminds us of some of the charming Inns we have stay at in New England. The owners/hosts are gracious and hands-on to make it all work. You can tell that they take great pride in the Inn and that it was a labor of love to share with others. The beautiful Inn unobtrusively blends into a quiet residential neighborhood that is within walking distance of the Aquarium, Cannery Row, and many restaurants. When we were getting breakfast before leaving to Monterey, we found Hotels.com cancelled our reservation at another hotel. We began looking for places to stay in the area and The Jabberwock Inn was one of the two. We booked a last minute reservation and only stayed one night, but we wish we could have stayed longer! There were wine and hors d'œuvres about an hour after check-in, which we then played some games and chatted with some other guests. In the morning we had an amazing breakfast (photo attached)! Life has been stressful lately, so we planned a trip to Monterey for the first time on a weekend getaway. After searching through different options of places we came across this Inn that not only had wonderful reviews, but it seemed like a cozy spot to just melt the stress away. After a long four hour drive we arrived at the Jabberwock Inn to a very kind host who greeted us (and even stayed to do so until 7pm, although they do have an option for later arrivals.) We were given an excellent tour and history of the home, and immediately felt comfortable and welcome. I loved looking at all of the details around such as the library, chess set, local art and even hidden doors! The room was spacious but cozy, with a fireplace, a jacuzzi tub and a super super super comfy bed. I was happy to get some well needed rest, and relax in peace and quiet. Not once did any noises wake me up which is so nice. The room also had comfy robes, a bottle of brandy, and a view of the ocean. Breakfast was included in our stay, which was DELICIOUS, and included a secret ingredient Jabberjuice. It was so nice to eat breakfast in the sun room overlooking the gardens. Everything we wanted to go was close by, but far enough that we felt we were still able to go back to our secluded cozy spot and relax. Other mentionable wonderful perks included a bocce ball court, free parking, a wine and appetizer social hour, and complimentary beverages 24/7 such as tea, water, juice, etc. the staff is so kind, and truly made the stay even more memorable. I woke up on our last morning feeling like my stress had just melted away and I was so sad to be leaving. What an absolutely wonderful experience. If I could give a thousand stars I would. read more

The place is beautiful, almost like staying in a museum with surprises everywhere you look (if you look carefully). Loosely based on an Alice in Wonderland theme the property reminds me of an English Country House plopped in the middle of Monterey! The hosts are over-the-top kind and attentive to your needs with Wine and Snacks served in the afternoon and a full-on breakfast in the morning with coffee, tea, and cookies 24 hours a day. You can also get soft drinks, water bottles and juice from a hidden refrigerator (free of charge) in a hidden closet aptly called the "Rabbit-Hole". Even better it's an easy walk (though steep in one part) to Cannery Row, The Monterey Aquarium and numerous shops and eateries (guests are provided a list of the best ones) within a few blocks. With an ideal location, friendly hosts, and a beautiful, comfortable atmosphere it's well worth the price. I'd stay again in a heartbeat! read more

I've never stayed at a bed and breakfast before this visit, the wife & I needed to get out of town to press the refresh button. Monterey was in our sites, but where to stay was the question. I opened Facebook to try to locate a spot, and I was fortunate to find this location, an 8 room bed and breakfast with ocean views, and they had a little 600sq ft cottage called the Tum Tum, kind of a tree house, or at least surrounded by trees, with a cool breeze from the near by ocean. This small craftsman style home has recently had a full restoration, the main house was built in 1910, in the craftsman style as well. We woke up Saturday morning, with breakfast served at our door right on time, 8:30 sharp, this allowed us to gobble it up and make our way to the historic 17mile pebble beach drive. In the evenings they offer snacks and drinks from 5-6, although we didn't partake, their attention to detail didn't go un-noticed. The owners Rick & Susan have made this a wonderful place to stay, no T.V. Just one on one time to reconnect. They do have great wi-fi, so we did cheat a bit as my wife can't get away from the hallmark Christmas movies. I'd be happy to stay here again in the future, I'd strongly recommend giving them a shot read more

Stayed here for several days with my wife. The owners and their family couldn't possibly more knowledgeable and accommodating for their guests. I was quite impressed. Separately, I have stayed in other bed-and-breakfasts...where the breakfast is simply continental or relatively standardized. Here, the breakfast is all made on the spot (based on their selection for the morning) and customized as needed for any dietary requirements. I also can't complain about the complimentary cookies and tea throughout the day/night. The vibe is funky (in a good way) with the whole Alice in Wonderland theme. The location is excellent. It's a little pricy - but very much worth the overall experience. I can see why there are several repeat customers. read more

My mom and I stayed here for two night and it was such an amazing experience! We arrived after normal check-in hours and they were nice enough to save us hors d'oeuvres and greet us with a glass of wine. Upon your arrival they give you a tour of the inn and show you to your room. Our room was extremely clean and was decorated beautifully. Every morning they provide a delicious breakfast, coffee, and an amazing Juice they called "jabber juice". You'll also receive hors d'oeuvre and complimentary wine at night. We really enjoyed all the personal touches the inn had to offer and how welcoming the staff are. They all went out of there way to make us feel welcomed and gave us great recommendations of what to see see/do during our stay in Monterey. I highly recommend staying here!! My wife and I stayed on a Sunday night, celebrating our 8th anniversary under pandemic conditions. We wanted somewhere only a short drive away (from home in Oakland or my parents' in Gilroy) so we wouldn't have to stop along the way; somewhere that had options for being out of doors; and somewhere that had strong social distancing and safety policies. We're very happy with our choice of the Jabberwock Inn! My mom was able to take our toddler for a couple of days, so it was just two of us on a romantic getaway. We drove through the Fisherman's Wharf area to get a sense of the crowd in Monterey, and when the inn was able to let us check in early, we enjoyed the quiet there for the rest of the afternoon. Dorothy, who welcomed us and gave us the tour, was very solicitous. I felt comfortable with the increased sanitizing and distancing practices she described and demonstrated. They've obviously thought about what it takes to have a house full of strangers share the space responsibly. I feel like this would be an excellent place to stay a week when it rained -- there's so much to do and explore in the common areas. The enclosed patio that comes with the Toves room was a convenient spot to enjoy our takeout dinner al fresco. The location, quiet but close to tourist areas (Cannery Row, the walking/biking trail, etc.), has sufficient parking so that you don't need to take your car downtown. I loved what they've done with the gardens -- the Wonderland theme comes out in bits and pieces everywhere! Overall, very charming and more than a little whimsical, but the practical structure of hospitality is also there. It's a bit beyond our usual budget, but perhaps for a special occasion we'd visit again. read more

We stayed for 3 days. Dorothy and Rick were as charming as the property itself. Everything was such a grand experience. The rooms are very clean, the bed was...OMG! THAT BED WAS HEAVEN! My husband and I are looking at buying the same mattress now. Rick was happy to share the inn's extensive history. Breakfast was beyond delicious and delightful. The jabberjuice alone is worth the stay. Wine and hors d'oeuvre were great as well as we met some really interesting people. 10/10 would recommend. We will definitely be back. OH! One word...Enchanting! We had the pleasure of staying here for a couple days in June and from the moment we entered the front door we felt like we were valued members of the family. I've always loved Alice in Wonderland and the recurring theme throughout made our stay extra special. The staff (Dorothy and Brianna) couldn't have been nicer or more helpful and Suzanne was just a wonderful hostess. We stayed in both the 'Wabe' and the 'Brillig' rooms and even though we loved both, the Wabe was just perfectly located at the top of the house and so charmingly decorated--that we felt like we had fallen down the rabbit hole and truly didn't wish to leave. Since I am not a tall person, the smaller doorways were just right and made me feel like the room had been made just for me. It was so perfectly quiet and relaxing that we slept each night in the most comfortable bed--ever!-- with our windows wide open to the fresh air. Their breakfasts are tasty and just the right portions. Each morning it was a fight to decide whether to have their delicious Jabberjuice or wake up to the smoothness of the Carmel Roasters coffee they served. (We had both!). The sunroom (or 'fog room when it was foggy' was so nicely set up and it was a pleasure to sit there and plan our day. Honestly, I can't think of another place that we've enjoyed more or looked forwards to returning to. read more

Everywhere you turn, there's a backwards clock, antique tea cups lining the wall, giant sized Alice in Wonderland hats. The place has character, that's for sure! Each night, a lovely spread of hors d'oeuvres is served and you're encouraged to join and socialize with other guests. Milk and cookies is made available in the evenings along with a 24/7 tea station. They were incredibly accommodating to dietary restrictions and made sure what they served was to your satisfaction. We were on the top floor in Wabe--just a note that the walls between our room and the room next door were paper thin and you can hear actual words spoken so if you want privacy, that's not the room for you! Literally... the BEST bed and breakfast inn I've ever been to! It's unique, cozy, and quaint! I know I'll be coming back at least once every year from now on. Everything was perfect from arrival to departure. All of the staff are extremely kind and really care about their guests. You feel welcomed every day and they have great customer service. The tasty hors d'oeuvres are fresh and served right on time every afternoon. Awesome fresh baked cookies daily to end your night. The chocolate chip and oatmeal were our favs. Breakfast is SOOO good, I mean like wow good and the portion size is on point. I was full each time it was so filling! The Jabberwock juice is super yummy too, tastes like an orange smoothie. They also leave coffee candies out by the hallway and have a secret "rabbit hole" frig that's stocked with water, juice, and soda that you can help yourself to 24/7 (all free!). We stayed in the Toves room, which is on the first floor, during the New Year's weekend. I really loved this room for its privacy, we had our very own private garden with access to an exit. The bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. The bath/shower was well kept, clean, and easily fit 2 adults - wish the bath water was hotter though. Operating the fireplace is easy and really adds a cozy factor to your room, not to mention it heats the room well. Overall: great location, great service, amazing food, well-maintained property both inside and outside, worth every penny. read more

Secret Garden We came through Monterey on a business trip and found this gem. The grounds are gorgeous and private. There was Bocce Ball, books, & games available. Having a yard to enjoy with my family was nice during our workcation. All the luxurious of being home on the road. Breakfast is delivered at 8:30 sharp as requested. The breakfast is 5 star. The owners and staff are welcoming and provided you with superior quality service. I felt like my family was well taken care of. It was nice to have all the conveniences of a bed and breakfast down to delicious coffee and creamer included in our room. I love my coffee in the morning and I didn't have to go hunt it down or even leave the room. In the morning I could open the patio doors and listen to the sea lions on the beach. I never stayed here but wanted to "check it out" one day and happened to stop by when a staff (possibly owner) was there and was graciously guided around. Was so thankful as this place is quaint and classic. Feels like going back into time (in a good way) and I was impressed how many details there are in all of the rooms. So many things to look at, creative space, beautifully decorated. What a special and different type of getaway. I wish they hosted events here if they aren't booked. It would be such a cool and different idea to bring in visitors who live nearby who don't necessarily need a place to stay but just want to visit this magical place for a little while. read more

A++ A truly exquisite gem!! Each detail is lovingly attended to-- the gorgeous downstairs decorations with an Alice theme, cozy room decor, the delicious breakfast (croissant bread pudding with vanilla sauce on my day) and warm plated appetizers with wine in front of the fireplace at 5pm. It's immaculate, sunny and welcoming. My room the Mimsy had a great ocean view. Outdoors we enjoyed a lunch we picked up from Sea Harvest just 3 easy blocks away. The entire staff was so friendly and welcoming-- and they operate with complete comprehensive Covid safety. This was my first venture out and I felt very comfortable, I highly recommend as my favorite BnB! And don't forget the warm homemade cookies every afternoon. read more
