this is a very poor pharmacy and i'm in process of changing to a new pharmacy. First of all, they routinely deliver refills of medications for which you have NOT requested refills. They also routinely give the customer misinformation about the date medications are available for refills. While it looks like a friendly old-fashioned pharmacy, it is poorly run and they regularly engage in flagrant, unethical practices by refilling meds you did not request to be refilled. Even after i explicitly told them to stop doing that, they continued to do so for several weeks. read more

This is my go-to pharmacy. Village Apothecary has been here supporting the community for decades, and I love being able to support them in return. There really is nothing that can replace the personal touch of the people who work here, no matter how much toilet paper and "seasonal specials" can be found at Rite Aid or CVS. Customer service here is excellent. I'm not sure what the guy who wrote a bad review experienced, but I've been in here many times and I've never seen anything like what he described. I have been using this pharmacy for 3+ years now and will never go anywhere else. They ALWAYS go above and beyond to make sure I get my prescriptions when I need them -- even if it's my fault for not planning ahead of trips. They've followed up diligently with doctors offices on my behalf to ensure that an expired prescription is ready to be refilled. They've even personally helped me out when I've been in a pinch by holding my apartment keys for a house cleaner or friend. Village Apothecary is something else. Everytime I go here, I expect the apothecary from "Romeo and Juliet" to come out and give me a potion so I can pretend to die for an hour and be awakened by my love. But alas, that will not happen here. This is an old-school pharmacy. That its called "Village Apothecary" makes it even cooler. It's not so old school that they have a soda fountain counter. I WISH they had a soda fountain counter. It's a no-nonsense, straight up pharmacy. You'll find medicines, cosmetics, some candy, and thats about it. If you want toilet paper, goto Duane Reade for that. If you want to conduct business with a local flavor, then goto Village Apothecary. And yes, they do deliver. read more

Village Apothecary is a throwback to the old days and in most cases that's not a good thing - but it is here. They've got all kinds of cosmetics and the pharmacy people are really cool - plus they deliver. This is a small neighborhood business - the kind that is rapidly disappearing off the face of neighborhoods all over this country, to be replaced by huge, fluorescent-lit nightmares like Rite Aide or Duane Reade. I have been coming to the Village Apothecary for about 30yrs or so. It is by far the best customer service of any drug store that I have ever been to and I am 60yrs old. The Pharmacist at the Apothecary are very knowledgable with all the new updates in Healthcare They are quick to tell you about drug interactions you may have from the different prescriptions you bring them and "already have" I would have had possibly some very bad reactions from my usual medications to some new prescriptions I have gotten from different Dr.s other than my Primary Care Physician. And the Men/Woman at the counter are very familiar with their customers and their needs. I recommend this Pharmacy to anyone looking for a Pharmacy that treats you like Family, And really are Knowledgable, and Caring. I have lived in NYC for 23 years and have been going to Village Apothecary as my source for prescription pick-ups and refills for nearly 20 years and the service I receive from every staff member to pharmacist is of the highest attention to detail and customer service. This is why we go to a neighborhood drugstore! My daughter suddenly came down with strep and weird spots, we swooped into Tribeca Pediatrics for their AMAZING Sunday hours, got a bunch of tests and got out just in time to get to Village Apothecary before they closed. When we got there, Pharmacist Stephanie (beautiful AND smart!) came out to tell us that she was concerned about the dosage being so high for a child and she wanted to speak to the doctor before filling it. The problem was that she hadn't yet gotten through to the doctor's office, and that was closing and so was Village Apothecary. The guy at the counter offered to stay open 15 minutes later and Stephanie offered to keep calling and even to drop the prescription AT MY HOUSE on her way home!!! I told them that I wanted to patronize them and not un-named big corporate drug store at the corner, but didn't want them to have to stay late, and they said it was okay, and that I could pay them tomorrow since delivery would make it impossible to pay after they closed. My wonderful neighborhood pharmacy was so careful about what was best for my daughter, and willing to go so many extra miles to make sure she was safe and that I got the prescription, that was amazing! read more

Knowing how sick I usually get, I still dread picking up medications, especially when so much goes into insurance and I'm still adjusting to how much America tends to charge for eczema medications uncovered/covered. When I first moved to NYC without insurance but had to go to Urgent Care, I was really nervous about picking up my prescriptions. Fortunately, the people here are so friendly and honest to me that make picking up medication a total breeze and relief. I don't have to worry about alarming prices and/or they're knowledgeable about everything and even offer me discount cards and suggestions of how I could better handle my insurance. A new New York City has been painted over the authentic New York City, but it was a rush job and they've missed more than a few significant details, and detail is what distinguishes New York City from the New York New York Casino in Las Vegas.. Thankfully one of the details they missed is the Village Apothecary - which has renovated without losing a lick of its charm and, far more importantly, its personal touch. I moved far enough away from the village a few years ago and a few days afterward it occurred to me that I might have to subject myself to one of the big, brightly lit monster chain stores close by. Great pharmacy. The pharmacists are top notch, and always take care of any special requests. Their products beyond prescription are high quality, and very well priced. I didn't know how good I had it until I was forced to use mail order via CVS Caremark Specialty Pharmacy. CVS mailorder is an absolute gong show. Village Apothocary opened their doors in 1983 I have been a client since 1985. I have found a team of qualified professionals handling this part of my medical management. Over the years I have dealt with insurance companies,their regulations relating to prior authorization. I have never had to call my doctors office to request someone to send an approval to the pharmacy. This is important to me. Village Apothocary incorporates a total health perspective covering nutrition, homeopathy and pharmaceuticals. When was the last time you walked into your pharmacy with the prescription in hand and told "give me 2 minutes I'll fill it now?" It's nice to hear "are you coming into visit or shall I have this delivered to you"? When I have had to change insurance companies during open enrollment the two primary concerns are ...is my primary care physician and my pharmacy in network? I plan on staying with both of them for a long time. Yelp only offers five stars I would give Village Apothocary many more. read more

The Village Apothecary is the best, most efficient, most caring pharmacy in the world. The business and its staff are more like caregivers than a store. They navigate insurance problems, prescription mix-ups, manufacturer co-pay programs, side-effects, and emotional traumas with grace, kindness and professionalism. I began using them as my pharmacy in the late 1980s, when I worked on Christopher Street, at the height of the AIDS crisis and they have remained in the vanguard of this community and its needs ever since. I have since moved several times, each time farther away and every time I try to use a different pharmacy, I end up coming back here. They will have my loyalty and my business for as long as I live and I mean every word of this. I have never bothered to write a review of any other business, good or bad.
