I had a wedding on Saturday in Maplewood NJ, and realized I was in need of a trim on my beard and hair....I had time before the wedding...and made a visit to the Village Barbers. I was greeted by Ozzie , sat in his chair, told him what I wanted and done....the price was fair, the service good, atmosphere was friendly...and the trim was just what I needed and wanted... Easy, to the point and quick cut. No frills. Great value when some places charge exorbitant amounts for simple cuts.

By far the worst experience. Took my son there for a simple hair cut. Asked for short hair on the side and long on top so he could style. But he ended up got his head shaved off. Poor excuse from the hair dresser which didn't help the situation. Now I have to console my son about this bad hair cut. Stay away. read more

Asked for an inch off the sides to clean up before a date, specifying I didn't want it too short. Ended up getting 4 inches cut off with ~80% of my hair on the floor, all whilst the barber paid half-attention, leaving in the middle a few times to close up the shop (over 30 minutes before closing time). Refusing to pay basic attention to the cut at hand and ruining someone's hair for the next half-year? Par for the course for this garbage location. read more

I have been going to this Village Barbers for YEARS. They were closed for several months during this CRAZY pandemic. My son sees Bernie (who he thinks is absolutely wonderful), and I see Maria, (who I feel is equally as wonderful!). There is nothing fancy about this place, so if you're looking for a razzle-dazzle, fancy-dancy place, then do NOT come here. On the other hand, if you're looking for plain, simple, and no bulls**t haircuts by people who are nice, with a wonderful chair-side manner, CLEAN and EXPERTS at what they do, then THIS IS YOUR PLACE ! I used to go to those "upscale places" who charge $50 or more, for a mens haircut (which i think is absolutely insane!!!)...but my hair grows back equally as fast and when i calculate the monies involved, i could likely put away money for a kids college education instead!..And then - - I also used to go to those mass "super" cutting places but I never knew what kind of "afflicted person" I would get on the rotation cutting the hair on my head (russian roulette) Why I am writing now is because having gone there since Bernie re-opened, I am really REALLY impressed with the measures they have taken to be "covid-cautious", with tall and wide partitions between each chair, mandatory masks, intense breakdown in between clients (haircuts).When I went last month, they were so busy, you could go "by appointment only". Then, when I recently went, they were very slow (which is unusual) and I suspect that is the case because people are still afraid to go out, given the hysteria and fears over covid-19. While I have the same concerns about going out during this crisis-mess, I felt quite comfortable in this small establishment with all the precautions Bernie has taken I have always supported small business "ma and pa" operations, and seeing whats going on in our community, I thought I might leave a review telling everyone how nice, careful and wonderful Bernie's barber shop is! Village Barbers is great I go here all the time. Always get a good cut and have had my hair cut by pretty much everyone here I think. Not sure why the bad reviews so I came here to change that. Maybe there was a rogue bad barber here years ago, but rating on Google Maps is 4.5 stars. Always customers in there, too, so I can't be alone. Just go on a weekday when it isn't packed. read more

The only place I go to get my hair cut. The staff is friendly and fast. They get busy sometimes but never rush and always have adequate staff. I have a small bald spot on my head and when I get cut short, it shows. The staff have always been skillful about working around my problem and it always comes out so my bald spot is invisible. Awful experience. Got a haircut, but the lady did a terrible job. Had to go to another barber immediately afterwards to do a proper job and clean up the mess that was my hair. Despite their name, this place cuts women's as well as men's hair. They're the best choice in town for a child's haircut. There's no reservations, and they take cash or check only. The scene is totally chaotic, but they have a system and know what they're doing. You might think that you'll be waiting forever, but they're usually really quick. The girls and womens haircuts we've gotten have been universally pretty great! read more

Great first experience this week. Owner cut my hair with a great balance of efficiency, chatter and quality. I will return.

NEVER AGAIN! Just moved to the area and needed a haircut so figured the local barbershop would be the safe choice. Sadly not the case. Every other person getting a haircut was under 10 years old. Should've been a sign! The woman who cut my hair, Maria, rushed through it in under 10 minutes. I told her to give me just a trim (told her twice) and I walked out with something closer to a buzz cut. No attention to detail. Very disappointing experience. read more
