I needed a pair of spin shoes & had no luck ordering them on line. Village bikes was recommended to me by a different bike shop that didn't sell shoes. There was older one man sitting, observing anything that might go on there. There was another older man walking about drinking coffee. Then there was a younger guy with a beard who seemed to be talking with the man drinking coffee as he was working in what appeared to be the shoe area. I felt invisible. I didn't want to interrupt their conversation. Finally the younger chap asked me if I needed help. I told him I needed shoes for a spin bike. He asked me my size and grabbed a pair. They didn't quite fit and that was the only pair in my size. I suggested to go up a size in hopes they had it. I asked if they had any other sizes or styles he said no. I asked if they were going to be getting any more restocked he said no. I tried the shoes on and they fit. I asked if they had more selections on line. He showed me the box and let me take a picture of it, then left me alone. I decided to take them but he out the box back in the stack so I wasn't sure which pair it was I tried on. I walked over to the little coffee bar and he was on his computer, working away. After about 5 minutes I said-" excuse me but I would like to get the shoes please". He looked up from the computer-said "ok" and went and got them. He rang me up, I asked a few more questions that went no where and then his attention turned away. A couple walked in and the older guy drinking coffee pounced on them promptly. I was there around 11 am and I was the only person there originally. They seemed to have a lot of cycles and accessories but I felt ignored and brushed off. I hope you have a friendlier experience than I did. read more

Osprey Ave location: Uncomprehensible lack of customer care. If I were to sum it up, I'd say attitude attitude attitude. Brought in a bike that needed a shifter either fixed or replaced for the front derailleur. The guy behind a computer screen, who was clearly annoyed that we were there for service, finally looked up at us. Mind you, no greeting whatsover. I had to make the initial "hello" greating to break the ice. Seemingly after I explained that I can't move the shifter for the front derailleur, he looked the bike over and said that for him to work on it we'd need 3 more items including a new rear cassette, and then gave us a total that was way more than we could spend. While I was deciding what to do, he rather emphatically stated, "if it were me I don't think the bike is worth it". WTF does he know what that bike is worth to me? I was certainly not going to purchase a new bike. Other than the shifter being broken, for the purposes we use the bike for... simply riding around the neighborhood, it works perfectly fine. I asked if he could just fix the shifter and he said, "you'd have to agree that you're not going to come back and hold it against us if something else breaks".... could he really be serious? Since I had gone through the effort of bringing the bike in, I agreed to his silly demand and said, "I'll just have the shifter replaced". A week later I went to pick up the bike. They had REPLACED THE WRONG shifter (which wasn't broken and had replaced a couple of years earlier at a much friendlier shop). I said this to the guy that was there this time and he said, "I see in the computer that you refused to do the work we recommended". I said, "correct, but that has nothing to do with you replacing the wrong shifter"? He said well it says "the right shifter on the work order". I said, "I didn't write the work order, there was no ambiguity as to which one needed to be fixed when I dropped it off". Honestly, I was incredulous but not rude. He hesitated, not knowing what to say. At this point I was quietly furious with this shop. I said just let me pay for this and I'll go somewhere else that actually cares. I will never go back to this shop and will strongly NOT RECOMMEND doing business there. read more

Really bad experience. Sold us a $3500 bike and accessories ten weeks ago. A couple weeks after that returned to pick up a basket that was on back order and we were handed it and were told installation was easy. Found out none of the parts needed to mount were given to us. Also found out an integral part of another installed accessory was missing which made the part unusable. Returned today and the store person said it was not his responsibility to help and that I shouldn't complain to him about past poor customer service. They need to replace staff. read more

Went in for a simple tube replacement on my back tire and had to wait quite a bit to even be acknowledged... they told me it would indeed just be the back tube replaced, and was told they'd call me when it was ready that day. About 2 and a half hours later before close, I called to ask if my bike was done. The young guy on the phone sounded very annoyed when I asked if it would be done before close, he kept telling me to wait and was being extremely rude on the phone. I was unpleasantly surprised by the lack of customer service by this group of employees that day. They said they were very busy. That's okay to be busy, but if you're busy, and it's making you emotional, do not take it out on the customers. That does not build a good relationship. Then I went in and got my bike, quests what? I got it and the tube popped an hour after receiving it. I called back to bring it back in and felt really uncomfortable bringing it back, I did and the employees seemed not super thrilled to see me with my bike again. I asked for a manager and he came out, I spoke to him and he was firm but tried to be more understanding. He said they were busy, but you know, you should ways empathize with the customer in a business, not make them feel terrible or concerned about whether to go to you again or trust them. He took my bike, fixed it in a couple of hours and gave me a call to pick it up. I got it and they were very brief with me. I am glad it was at least sort of fixed this time. But the amount of hassle and bad feelings for a stranger coming in to get something super simple changed was just really bad. I haven't been here since. We went to Voltaire and they were great! But didn't have the ones we wanted. They did let us try a bunch of bikes, but none were the right fit. We ended up getting some amazing 20" 750watt WTVA fat tire folding ebikes from Venice outdoor sports. We love them so much!!!! I don't wish to impugn either of the three negative reviewers because everybody is entitled to their own opinions. Nevertheless, the experience my wife and I had today was terrific. We originally went in just to get her a helmet, but the 27-gear Specialized hybrid with Carbon Forks was irresistible, and she is now the proud owner of it. Ryan took time to investigate her planned biking expeditions and previous riding experience, the result of which is she now owns a bike she adores. As a long-time NYC bicycle commuter and proud member of Transportation Alternatives I was especially pleased with his recommendation of high-lumens front and rear lights. But wait, there's more. The first year of tune-ups is included in the purchase of the bike. The vibe in the store is great. The selection is exceptionally broad. The helmet choices are top of the line. BUYER BEWARE... We needed a new mountain bike for my wife last winter...we met with the owner and he was VERY nice. We explained what we needed and he strongly recommended a Cannondale they had in stock. We tried it, bought it and were initially very happy...however, within 3-4 months, little things on the bike started to go south. Front wheel consistently came out of alignment causing the disk brake to chirp when ridden. The front derailer had problems shifting to the large sprocket, and the shifterwas VERY difficult to engage. Over the past 8-9 months we've taken the bike back to be fixed at least 1-2 times every month... Last week we brought the bike in again because the brake was chirping again and it was difficult to use the front derailer...the repair mech told us the bike was great and the issues must have been caused by us! We argued, and the owner stepped in and said he'd have the Cannondale rep look at the bike and they call us with an update. On Friday, after not hearing anything back, we called the shop and they said the rep was out of town , but they worked on the bike and "it's fine...come ride it and see." We arrive today Saturday, and rode the bike. The chirping was gone but the front derailer was so tight my wife couldn't shift from small to large...I tried to (ex football player), and it was difficult for me, and only engaged on the first try 60% of the time. I spoke with the asst manager and said this is crazy that an expensive bike would have so many problems. What did he say...? "Unless you spend over $1,500 on a bike, they're all crap. Since we only paid $800, you got a crappy bike. You should have known it was a crappy bike when you bought it." He then rode the bike and said he could shift it, so "obviously you're wife is too weak to ride this bike." We said we've ridden an older Trek mountain bike with front derailers for decades without any issues. He then said, "...well, you bought a crappy bike, and you're too weak to shift the gears...go buy a Trek, and never come back here again..." read more

Update 2/21 - Took the bike out for a ride today, and the issue that I had take it in for has not been fixed. They told me that they had adjusted the derailer in the 20 minutes between my phone call and my arrival at the shop, but clearly, they had not determined the cause of the issue, nor fixed it. At least they didn't charge me. The short version - Took my bike in was supposed to be 2 - 3 days. Day 4 no news. Was treated rudely when asking for information, and when I said that I had felt dismissed since I was a woman, I was yelled at. Told they would have my bike ready and for me to come get it and hung up. Spoke to the owner when I got there - he was not interested in my complaint so that it could be addressed. but they sent me home with my bike. We'll see tomorrow if it's functioning. Long version - I had done a bit of business with Village Bikes when I lived in Sarasota previously. I have had better service in bike shops in other places I have lived around the country, but wanted to give them another chance. I like local bike shops. I will start by saying that the young man who was actually doing the mechanic work seemed nice. However, I brought my bike in for a tune up a year ago and had an injury so I couldn't ride until this month. On the first ride it didn't shift great, and there was a hesitation on every pedal stroke. I called this past Monday and explained, and realized that it had been a year, but wanted them to know since it hadn't been ridden that it just wasn't due to use. They told me it would be 2 - 3 days before they could look at it, but that I could bring it by. I called the Lakewood Ranch location, just to see if it could be any sooner. They said Thursday. I went to the Osprey location with the bike, and told them that Lakewood Ranch said Thursday, so this was the same time frame and left my bike. I wanted to get some bike shorts and glasses, but even though I was the only person in the shop, no one offered any assistance, so I went home. Thursday came and went - nothing. Called on Friday morning at 11:30. They had not looked at my bike. Had 2 bikes to do on Friday, but would look at mine and call me back. Called at 4:45 PM to see what the issue was and if it would be available to pick up before closing at 6. Mechanic was out on a test ride, but would call me back. I tried to explain to whomever was on the phone that I was told it would be done on Thursday, and that I wanted to know what they had determined what the issue was. He said that he didn't know why they even told me 3 days as they don't have staff and are scheduled out 6 months. After a bit of back and forth, I said that I had felt dismissed because I am a woman. This made him very angry, and he yelled at me. I tried to explain that was how it felt to me when dealing with them (this was actually true when I took it in a year ago, too.) He told me my bike would be ready by 6 and to come and get it. I asked for the owner. Was told that he was out on a test ride, too, and that he would call me when he got back. I got in my car and went to the shop. Walked in - there was the owner. Clearly, they didn't have him call when he got back in as my phone was in my hand and hand not rung. I tried to explain my complaint and he interrupted saying that my bike was ready. I told him, I wanted to tell him my issues He stated that they aren't dismissive of women - they have lots of women customers. I told him that regardless that is how I felt. He did at least say that he was sorry for that. I told him I had wanted to buy some merchandise, and no one offered to help, he said that usually they are overly helpful. Weirdly, the bike was ready to go, and it was only a derailer adjustment. Twenty minutes had passed since I had been hung up on. Then the guy that yelled at me and hung up came out of the office and yelled at me some more. He denied hanging up on me. I was quite upset and hurt - in tears by now. I asked how he would like it if someone treated his 61 year old, post cancer mother that way. His response was that I made him feel bad. Like I said at the beginning of the review - they did not charge me for the adjustment, but it was an overwhelming bad experience. read more

I went there a week ago. I noticed a leak on my rear tire. I called Village Bikes and asked if they'd have time to look at it. They said, "sure," bring it right by. I had experiences of having to wait days at other bike shops. I drove to Village Bikes. The guy looked at my tire at said, "The tire looks good. Must be something inside. Give us 15 minutes." Thinking they'd never do it so quick I replied, "I'm going to Trader Joe's and will come back." While in Trader Joe's, I got a text that my bike was ready! I drove back, and picked up my bike with a new innertube, for $19. I couldn't be happier with the speed and the reasonable pricing. read more

Used a hammer to install my rear view mirror on my new bike. Scratched the paint, denied it and advised me to use nail polish as touch-up. BAD SERVICE RUDE ... DONT GO!!!!!!! so i took my brother who has a brain damage from years ago hear to get a bike tire yesterday... the guy helping us told us what we needed mind u my brother is homeless and i had to help him try to put it on ..i do not know what i am doing . this is the second time in two days we have been to this shop the first time the younger guy was nice gave us advice and showed us what pump to use and everything no issue .. when the other tired popes the next day we went back money in hand for a new one ..the older short man helped us kinda and he was far from nice and helpful .. so naturally at a bike shop you ask questions if u have them . and the product i bought from them was looking to big ( considering we just came there the day before , with the other tire this one wasn't looking like the right tire ) when i asked his opinion he answered with a passive aggressive .. " its not easy " with a smerk on his face .. when i asked to use the pump he huffed and gave it to me .. at this point the lack of costumer service and his attitude towards us was shocking .. i politely asked who the owner was and the man wouldnt tell me andbhe asked why ? i responded with " its ok it not hard to find that out " mind you i have manners and i am in customer service myself .. he walked away turned around and proceeded to yell and kick us out saying we took advantage of him .. meanwhile he just sold us the wrong product and wont actually help us figure it out we never asked him to do any labor on the bike we simply needed him to see that the tire was too big for the bike and that he told us what we needed was wrong ..when u go to a store and ask questions or need guidanc that is you job to hep and guide your costumers especially if they are paying .. the story continues now my brother has brian damage remember and im tryed to get him to leave with me and this man keep combatting with my brother and yell and repeating himself for us to get out that we are taking advantage of him ..no other reason other than that . so he kicked out a paying customer who just was sold the wrong product and he knew it ..40$ down the tube my brother is now without a bike and i have seen it all .. this bike shop is the awful they are arrogent and less helpful than talking to a rock . i will be contacting the owner and anyother person i can from the better business to who ever else i can ..i am a small business supporter 100% and i am in shock at the lack of compassion and just general manners this place had ..there was only one young man that was nice and helpful that first day ..so people say our generation is the problem i dont think so. a c read more

DO NOT GO THERE!!! I went in to purchase a bicycle today. When I walk in no came up to help me, they were too busy eating at the counter...Seriously!?! AT LEAST say HELLO! Then an older man approached me. I asked him for info on a cycle cross and was NO HELP. I recently went into this bike shop and was promptly sown the door. I was there to have my wife's bike serviced and stood by the repair area for a while. When someone finally decided to come take care of me, it was a 16 year old. He immediately said we are too busy to help me. Basically in a nut shell there was absolutely no customer service and not even anyone willing to offer any help at all. I am sure this is common place in this business. The manager just walked by me and did not even give any explanation. I am completely surprised in this day and age of trying to keep business local and helping out the customer I was completely dismissed. I never post reviews but, this is truly a poor way of doing business and I am sure they will find this out in the long run. I will ensure no one I know uses them. I cannot say enough great things about this bike shop! I walked in without an appointment with an older bike that I wanted to fix up with new tires for a student in need. I was greeted quickly, the work necessary was immediately assessed, and within a very comfortable 30 minutes (Coffee bar on the showroom floor) I was on my merry way for a very reasonable price. I would also like to add that the helpful & friendly young man also contributed to my student's cause by cleaning up the bike and greasing the chain for him. But in the past month, I have been to Village Bikes twice and been helped by Jody, who's friendly, knowledgeable and realizes I'm not a serious biker. She gave me good advice and recommendations and, when presented with a technical question about my wailing brakes and how to fix them, she connected me with a more technical staffer. She explained the options on bike shorts and pointed out the pluses and minuses of each for someone like me without making me feel like the amateur I am. In 30 minutes of research online, I might have found many of the same answers, but I no doubt would have had remaining questions. And I would have missed Jody's friendly smile. Jody and Tony were outstanding in being patient (two hours just discussing my bike style and possible choices) and very knowledgeable eventually suggesting I consider a bike which would keep me more upright and was half the price of what I was willing to spend. I ordered the bike and picked it up being charged $30 less than the price when I committed to the bike plus 10% off on accessories. They were kind throughout the transaction. Service was absolutely terrible they said my bike was fine it took me a week to go get it I can tell they left it outside the paperwork was all wet my bike even had rust on it. I'm not sure what happened to the previous reviewer but my two experience at Village Bikes have been have been just the opposite. The first time my wife and I went there to get a basket for her bike. We had a cappuccino while we were deciding...a nice touch. Once we chose a basket the sales person took us right to the service department where they stopped what they were doing and installed it. They also watched my wife ride and adjusted her seat and her front brakes...all for the cost of the basket. The next time I went there I had a clicking from one of my peddles. The service guy again stopped what he was doing, jumped on my bike and rode around the parking lot behind the store. He got a new sets of peddles which he said had been left behind by a new bike buyer who had his own peddles. Installed them, adjusted my front brake and my seat height. When he was done he said "no charge"... Huh? That just doesn't happen anymore but it does at Village Bikes! Wonderful place with nice knowledgable people who are into biking and deliver exceptional customer service. Oh...did I mention that my bike was a Schwinn that I bought at Target? They didn't care. You can bet my next bike will come from Village Bikes! A wonderful experience! read more
