Use it or lose it??!! I know everybody that's a local. Turlock wants to support their Brick + Mortar grocery store that is family owned. But when you continuously get outdated boxed food or sour grape grapes or fruit that is rotten the money starts to add up that you spend here. I love this grocery store because the people are all very kind to you and you get used to seeing them. But they need someone to do quality control when they bring in the fruit and vegetables. One out of three times the fruit is rotten or un edible. Please people check dates on boxes and check the fruit before you buy it. read more

I enjoy going to this store since it is in my neighborhood. Some things may cost a few cents more, but I don't have to use plenty of gas to get there. Also, they usually have "prime" steaks which most stores don't have. Of course prime beef costs more, but a steak is the grade high end steakhouses use. Also, all workers are friendly. read more

I love and try to support local businesses as much as possible. Village fresh is the closest grocery store to my apartment and I find it hard to shop there because of the prices. One can easily spend $30 just picking up a few items for dinner. I can't imagine what it would look like to solely shop here for all a households groceries. This is the biggest reason for knocking down two stars off the review. I love many things about this store. They have a fantastic selection of local or gourmet versions of ordinary groceries. They sell the coffee from a company in Ceres that I love and it's reasonably priced. The coffeemate creamer that we buy is usually a dollar more. The staff is always wonderful. They seem to always have younger staff which, I find to be a pleasant thing that they are employing youth. I love the readily available grab and go dinner options they have in the deli. Cooked meat loaf, tri-tip, sandwiches etc. but be weary to rely on this option they go quickly around dinner time. read more

Holy cow these prices are crazy. I understand the small location that's deep in the neighborhood so it's like "convenience " but the prices are insane. The cashiers were really nice but when I passed the deli the employee eyes got big and they hurried for a mask. Like I'm not worried about it. But Something tells me they are aware that masks are required for people in food service jobs at the moment . Just weird to me. If you're looking for Richland Market, you're in the right place. No longer Richland but is now Village Fresh. A lot has changed with this store aside from its name. The store no longer has a pharmacy and after 20+ years I had to take my prescriptions to Rite Aid. During the remodel everything has been moved around. I used to know this store like the back of my hand. Now I have to search for what I need. The deli has changed and they don't have the made-to-order sandwiches anymore however, they do BBQ a few days a week outside and you can snag some pretty tasty tri tip sandwiches. I shop at Village Fresh for in between my regular grocery shopping trips. This is my "milk, bread and oops I ran out of that" store. No way I could actually afford to do all of my shopping here and I would have to go to another store anyway as Village Fresh doesn't carry a lot of the specialty items I regularly purchase like good quality salami and my Italian pastas. Overall a good, clean and super friendly store. Just a little pricey and since the remodel it has slightly lost its "hometown" feeling. read more

I can't say enough about this grocery store! I have always been amazed with the specialty selections of different items. From various drinks to prepared foods. Fresh barbecued meat prepared on site early out front, brought in for the meat department to sell per pound, or packaged and pre-weighed and priced in their heated self serve display rack. They sell the awesome "Low and slow slow " milk also. Just past the registers when walking in, you might find a selection of fresh salsas and guacamoles on ice. Or something else fresh on ice. I gave Valley fresh market 1 rating because I couldn't give them a negative 1 rating. I use to live in the area and went to Richland market when they were open. I thought the service there would be the same at Valley Fresh market. Sadly, I was mistaken. I wanted to get flowers for a friend for her birthday, I was the only one near the checker so I went to pay , but the checker was so rude and helped another person that came from no where with a cart full of groceries. So I patiently waited. While he was ring out that person he started a conversation with his friends that had just walked in. I wanted to help a local business but if the service I received there is an indication of of local businesses, maybe I should go back to shopping at Costco. I was so annoyed. As the daughter and granddaughter of small business owners, I have always been a fan of supporting local businesses. Village Fresh is one of those establishments that we support on a regular basis. The clerks have always been very friendly and helpful. They also want to hear from their customers regarding which products they want. They have ordered a few different salad dressings that I used to have to purchase at another store farther from home, after I made a request! One of our favorite must have purchases is the homemade chips and salsa. Oh my word! They taste just like chips and salsa from Mexican restaurants. My weakness! I love this grocery store! They have the best specialty items. Their prepared chicken, scones, cookies, salsa, and tortilla chips are all delicious and made by them. Their staff is the best around and always so helpful. I've seriously never had to ask for help because they can read your face and come to you. When they do get a large line they are quick to call for someone to come to the front. I've never waited more than 5 minutes to get checked out. Just can't say enough good things about this store. Last summer (2011) I purchased a can of soy formula for my baby. Thank God my father in law is diligent, because the product had expired. They refunded us our money and removed all the product from their shelves. Fast forward to about a week ago. They have individual frozen pies on sale for $0.59. They have no expiration date on the box. My husband points out (after several had been consumed by family) there is a numerical code on the box you type in on the companies website to get the expiration date. THESE PIES EXPIRED IN 2009. Awful. Village Fresh should have removed them from their shelves and not sold them. When you're 6 months pregnant you do not want to eat a product that expired 3 years ago. I LOVE this grocery store! So happy to have a store like this with a great selection of organic produce, eggs, dairy, local grass fed beef, prime steaks, and other foods in Turlock. Sad to see this store change so much after being a regular customer for so long (Even had my mom, who lives in Modesto drive her to shop based on my recommendation.) Our family always orders our holiday turkeys here, and we were once devout customers. Went in to do my regular shopping, and the cashier, Lori was very uninviting. She did not smile not greet me, only rang up my items and told me my total, almost sounding annoyed. She made me feel like I was an INCONVENIENCE. More than that, she was being very rude and making snarky comments to other workers, I think a bagger and another cashier, whom were, in my experience, always very kind and helpful! (Maybe she should take tips from them?) the gentleman in line behind me also noted her behavior, so I know I hadn't been the only one who noticed. Only giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the deli, meat, and grocery sections kept up their history of great service. I am sad to say it since we love having a store like this so close but we will no longer be shopping here. My 17 son recently went to the store and felt a negative side comment by the cashier was directed at him. I followed up with the store hoping to hear something along the lines of "I hope that's not what was meant by her comment and will be sure to follow up, we want to be sure your whole family feels welcome." This is a very expensive store to shop in. As for the barbecue, I am not impressed. To try tip sandwich I had was overcooked and dry. Yesterday my daughter went to buy some breakfast burritos which are the worst. There is far more tortilla then is necessary end it appears they don't attempt to heat them up before they put the filling inside. The eggs are dry and the bacon was almost impossible to find. Went in this morning to buy a gift card and a card. I told the clerk to put $25 on the gift card. She rings me up and says I owe $38. I told her I said $25. She says "well you owe $38". I told her I didn't ask for $35, I asked for $25, I need you to re-do it. She calls a supervisor over and they both were dumbfounded and couldn't figure it out. Meanwhile I need to be on my way so I'm not late for work. They said it can't be fixed. They both gave me a very weak and very insincere "sorry". This is HORRIBLE customer service. I didn't make the mistake, the store clerk did. The right thing to do would have been for Village to eat the $10 mistake THEY made, NOT the customer, and refunded me $10 cash. I was charged for something I didn't ask for. I was treated like crap, Village Fresh is nothing more than a glorified convenience store. Yes it's convenient because it's a neighborhood market and close to my house but EVERY item is a good 20% more than at any other store in town. In fact I've never seen anyone fill up a shopping cart there. It's always a few items in a basket. Make this right Village Fresh. Try caring about your customers. read more
