Located on Main Street in downtown Vermilion, the Burning River is located walking distance from the beach and other shops. I stopped in this boutique to just browse but ended up purchasing two gorgeous pieces of statement art. The gallery owner, Lora, was extremely helpful and patient with me as I asked a million questions (hey, we like to know the origins of our art). In addition to original art by local artists, this beautiful gallery also contains cards, small homewares, jewelry and more, all made by artists. I loved the originality in every single piece. You could assemble a very nice gift in here and feel great about supporting a local artist in doing so. I purchased two pieces and Lora was very careful about wrapping them safely, which I really appreciated. She even helped me carry them and safely put them in my car. The gallery is beautiful and it's such a warm and inviting place. I appreciate how Lora is always welcoming new artists in to show pieces and curating a diverse selection of art for every taste. Danielle is also a fantastic photographer that can meet you on location to film or photograph your exciting vacation memories. I recently attended an Ecstatic Dance drum circle event at the studio that was led by Dr Harry Pepper and his drum troupe Spiral Rhythm. It was such an exciting and freeing experience, to be dancing and surrounded by awesome art. I can't wait for the next one. Badge pick up is pretty busy the first day, but it moves pretty quick and is easy any time after. Lines tend to be longest for the otaku market and craft fair. Dealer's room and artist alley are varied yet roomy. This con is actually pretty well priced since it's a popular venue and big events. The wrestling tournament is also extremely popular. List goes on, but basically there's something for everyone.

But it is worth it as it is definitely one of the BEST places that host art festivals/fairs at least a dozen or so times a year. Support local and keep up the good work! My only suggestion is to avoid parking nearby and just walk to 78th Street Studios until they respray the parking lot lines and fill in some of the potholes...

The art center is a pretty important part of my personal history. We returned for a quick weekend and stopped into their holiday shop which was wonderful and picked up some unique Christmas gifts. The art gallery is free and open to the public to browse and take in the art, and the classes that you can take here are varied and not super expensive. My family and I visited from out of town to tour the facility and peek into the gallery, but if I lived in the area, I would totally take advantage of the classes here. They offer glass blowing, ceramics, stained glass, oil painting, jewelry making, watercolor paining and lots more. The work space they have set up for classes is bright and airy, and there are lots of materials everywhere in the organized space. They have kilns and ovens for creating pottery and glass pieces, and the whole area is just super conducive to creativity. They have rotating exhibits that feature local and not-so-local artists, in a gallery that with everything from paintings to sculptures. It's a great space to just wander around and get inspired.
