I don't understand the recent good reviews. Great location and value pricing is about all this hotel has going for it. The reception desk staffer who checked us in was very nice, but staff needs to be present at all times, including someone available to respond to a phone calls with requests for replacement towels that never materialized. At least 4 times in 2 days no staff could be found for questions/concerns. The first thing I noticed upon walking into our room was a dental brush-pick on the bathroom floor. And the bathroom sink stopper was non-existent; just the drain hole. There was only 1 plastic cup for the bathroom. We made do with water bottles. The bed was uncomfortable; too hard. The rooms really need blackout curtains. When the sun is up, so are you. Had been looking forward to using the pool which I remembered from our stay 12 months earlier. I was disappointed to find the pool filled in with landscape rock, creating the fire pit area we didn't use. Multiple rooms were left open all day/overnight with lights blazing. Bugs? Rodents? We helped ourselves to replacement towels from one of those rooms. We will not return. read more

I chose to stay at Village Green Lodge because of its ideal location, great online reviews, and price. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Mike with a warm and friendly smile and he made me feel welcomed. I stayed at Village Green Lodge for two nights (Friday/Saturday). My room was very comfortable and clean and my stay was quiet and peaceful. There was ample parking, wifi, a pool, morning coffee and fruit, and the location of the lodge was great. Within walking distance of restaurants and the water. read more

If you're looking for lodging in Door County I highly recommend The Village Green Lodge in Ephraim, WI. It's perfectly located near the water, the Old Village Hall and several excellent restaurants. The innkeeper, Mike, is a super friendly host. He makes you feel welcome in his lodge and greets you like you're a long time friend. We were given Room 204 and found it to be neat, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was well stocked with tissues, toilet paper, towels and toiletries. The bedspread looked brand new and the mattress was good and firm...which is my preference. If you are hungry upon arrival, Mike can have a pizza waiting for you. He has a pizzeria on site. Otherwise there are a few restaurants within a short walk from the lodge. We ate at the local Chef's Hat restaurant twice and enjoyed both meals there. Speaking of food, Mike has coffee out at 7:30 in the morning. Fresh fruit, a variety of flavored yogurt, and several flavors of oatmeal are also available. If you want suggestions on things to do in the area just ask Mike. He's very knowledgeable about what's going on and where to go in the Door County area. Oh, and if you like live music Mike performs on Saturday afternoons in the lodge's main room. read more

Had high hopes, but was a little disappointed. Lots of light coming through the blinds (should have been different window treatments based upon the window type), dusty, very old carpeting, a bucket under the sink (I assume to catch dripping water) and a refrigerator/freezer that needed defrosting. The host was very nice, but doubt we will be returning. For the price I expected more. read more

Mike and Jamie are terrific hosts! We have been coming up every year for the Fall Festival for at least 20 years, and we love these accommodations! We travel with another couple and rent "the apartment." It has two bedrooms - one king and one queen. We're always fighting over who gets the king! ;). There are two full baths, a full kitchen, and living area. There was a new fireplace and some new furnishings this year which we liked very much. Very spacious and comfortable. My adult children sometimes come up with us and rent traditional hotel rooms in the same property. The breakfasts are simple but delicious: homemade oatmeal with seasonal toppings, homemade breads, bagels, fresh fruit, juices, granola, cold cereals, fresh coffee. We have stayed at the Village Green Lodge three times and there's a reason we keep coming back. Village Green has become our Door County home! The rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. After a month of researching sites, trails, parks, and restaurants around Door County, I was finally left with the difficult decision of finding a place to spend three nights during Memorial Day weekend. Many of the options are outdated and over-priced, at least according to Trip Advisor. Now after spending a wonderful long weekend here, I write this review: Village Green's location couldn't be any better being just a block from the scenic lake front in Ephraim. To follow it, follow the hotel arrow signs (or turn right on Cedar then the next block will be Poplar). Upon arrival, it looks like a converted motel. Once you enter the lodge and main dining room, that all changes. You're greeted by one of the owners, Sue or Steve. You have a pleasant view of their well-kept gardens with hummingbirds and orioles feeding while you take care of the business of getting your key and getting the scoop. While this is considered a B&B, you have the privacy of a hotel and breakfast of a B&B without being in a stranger's home. They offered the most reasonable King bed room (it's a rarity to find, especially at this price) I could find in Door County. Even more so, a hotel that is FREE of pets, cigarette smoke AND kids---Triple score! That's what I call a true escape! The room was extremely clean--and I mean immaculate. I'm one of those who examines my bathroom and sheets for hair or any other uninvited critters. I didn't find any of this my entire stay. The room had an outdoorsy theme with wood and leaves. The room also came with a mini fridge, a desk, TV with WGN (to watch Tom Skilling's weather report), plenty of lighting, a bathroom heater, bathtub, everything I would ask for. Breakfast is served between 8 am and 10 am and was exceptional. Everything is homemade by their European assistants who have talent. First time for my mom and I to stay in a Inn. I couldn't of picked a better location and spot to stay for an extended weekend. Upon arriving, we felt like friends of the owners. Mike made ideal recommendations that we couldn't be happier with. We entered room 20x which included a view of the lake from the living space windows and a cozy view from our balcony. This place had the comfort and views that anyone could ask for. Our room couldn't of been more clean due to the hard working cleaning staff. We stayed over for 2 nights at the end of October. We stayed in a suite. In one room was a large hot tub, fireplace, comfortable recliner, full couch, kitchen table and chairs, television and small kitchen, and the other room was the king size bed and bath. The layout was perfect, as were our hosts. Sue made amazing breakfasts with good coffee and fruit, as well as a homemade snack in the afternoon. It was a cold end to October so we stayed in the room and relaxed much of the time. The hot tub filled faster than any I have seen, and the fireplace kept the room toasty. When we ventured out, we hiked the Eagle trail, ate an amazing dinner at the Wickman House, tasted cider at Island Orchard, and caught the sunset at Ellison Bluff. I would definitely come back to gracious hosts and such a relaxing place. read more

This is one of those great local small businesses that really cares about every guest and their experience at their inn and on vacation. Though other places in Door County may excel at little amenities, they would be hard-pressed to surpass Mike and Jamie McCarthy in warmth and sincerity. It truly felt like we were staying with old friends. The McCarthy's just have that vibe. From their homemade farm-to-table breakfasts featuring Door County favorites and local businesses, to their peaceful pool and brightly planted gardens, this inn has a charm that resonates from the kindness and care of its innkeepers who are entrenched in Door County's culture and community. We always enjoy Door County, but the McCarthys made this particular visit especially memorable. read more

The new owners are friendly. The lodge is located in a nice spot, 1/2 block from water. The food offerings were very good. The beds were comfortable, however the bathroom is very small, and this place is older, however room was clean, but as we entered, I was hit in the face with a very musty/moldy smell. We were shown to our room, a nice touch. I paid $170 something for the room, which I felt was too much for an older place with such a small bathroom, but it is Door County. I prefer newer and larger. The new owners just got there, so perhaps they will address the smell, if they are aware of it. Not good reception for phone/internet, but TV picture was good. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Village Green Lodge over Memorial Day weekend and we were so pleased with the room and the service provided by Jamie and Mike that we can't wait to return. Check-in was easy and Jamie was very attentive to my dietary needs (I can't have a lot of wheat or dairy due to IBS). The room was spotless and fresh and there was in-room wifi and cable. Breakfast each morning was really great -- the oatmeal was exactly what I needed and Jamie had soy milk and Earth Balance butter ready for me when I came into the dining area. The cherry scones that they make on-site are to die for! I could only take a couple of bites of it because of my sensitivity to wheat but it was truly delicious and I really wanted to eat the entire thing. The area is incredibly gorgeous and there is tons to do. The Peninsula State Park is super close as well as the neighboring village of Sister Bay. We had so much fun and I am really looking forward to our next trip to Door County. read more

Mike and Jamie are the new owners of this wonderful B and B. I know people have come here for years and felt attached to the previous owners, but rest assured, you are in very capable hands with these lovely and warm people. They only want to please and they did so in every possible way. Friendly, chatty, helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and had a great variety. Location is great and I loved that there are no children, dogs or smoking allowed. My partner and I stayed for three nights at the Village Green Lodge at the end of May, 2011. We have stayed at quite a number of bed and breakfast establishments, and this is one of the best! The room and grounds were beautiful, inviting, immaculately clean and in good condition. The room was very spacious--I especially appreciated the two wing chairs for reading. I also appreciated having a king sized bed--quite a rarity among B&Bs. The gathering room was also beautiful and very comfortable. The food was out of this world; I thought I was eating breakfast at some five star restaurant. And best of all, we enjoyed Sue and Steve's warm and friendly hospitality, and cheerful manner--they are the consummate hosts! They both were so helpful and cheerful whenever we had a question. And of course, I loved getting attention from their adorable dog Buddy! Sue and Steve made our trip to Door County something really special. It is an outstanding place to stay! read more

We wanted to getaway for the weekend and chose to stay at Village Green Lodge. We stayed here 20 years ago when Steve and Sue became the owners and again we had a very relaxing and wonderful time. They exceeded all of our expectations! We stayed in one of the suites which had all the conveniences of home, fireplace, microwave, fridge, robes, jacuzzi tub and kitchenette. It was so comfortable that it was very easy to stay indoors. The linen and quilts were of very high quality. They pay attention to all detail and we can tell the mark of perfection in everything. Very gracious and friendly hosts. Breakfast is always delicious and homemade. Sue has also written a cookbook with her favorite breakfast recipes and treats. Afternoon snacks are also very delicious and something to look forward to. Steve and Sue and their staff make you feel so comfortable and always ready to help. Theyare very personable and Sue gets to know her guests in light conversation. There is no need to look for other B&Bs in Door County as everything you need is here. This Lodge is within walking distance to the lake and the famous Wilson's Cafe. We will be back more often for our quiet getaways as this to us is the BEST B&B in Door County. read more
