The service was great until we got to the register on the receipt it shows her as employee #64014084 . My boyfriend who is 70 years old was having a hard time with the sig cap and she talked to him like he was just stupid . I am a cashier and am busier at my place of employment than this lady ever thought about being but I know how to handle customers and it's not like this. Sadly, I write this review. I have shopped at Ace for years and have been cheerfully assisted by many of their employees. The last two times however I was rudely assisted by the staff. Frankly I am stunned as I always considered this store to be part of the neighborhood. In any event two shopping experiences ago I approached the paint counter with a question about the Flourescent bulb I was trying to replace. My question was met with a stern and scolding rebuff by the mid aged woman working there. Her tone of voice was forceful as she said they no longer sell Flourescent bulbs. I then showed her the Flourescent bulb I was talking about and she asked where I got it and I told her off the store's shelf! Obviously there still are Flourescent bulbs in the store Today I went in to get some stain for my deck. I brought a gallon of Cabot neutral base stain to the paint counter and same Flourescent bulb woman. I said I'd like this in Cordovan Brown. She asked me with what seemed like irritation what I was talking about. I said I'd like Codovan Brown. She asked again and this time I responded that I thought the can is base paint and it can be mixed with colors to make Cordovan Brown. I asked if this is correct and got no response except body language conveying annoyance. I could see she was doing some other things although no one else was around. While I waited I grabbed a Cabot stain brochure and found the color I desired. As she approached me I said this is the color that I am talking about. At that time a younger man approached the counter and said he would take care of me. The female worker then departed toward the front of the store with a sour look on her face and what seemed like a scowl at me. I couldn't understand this response at all. I mentioned it to the younger gentleman jokingly saying maybe she didn't understand me because I mispronounced Cordovan. I thought I'd make light of it. His response was to look at me and put his finger in front of his mouth to silence me. I said I don't get your response. He said I don't want to "mansplain" to you. You are a man and she is a woman. I was baffled and told him so. He said everyone at the store works hard and sticks together. I said that is great but customer service is important too and that different word choices and facial expressions can convey the same message without being offensive to the customer. My comments fell on deaf ears. He told me I can choose to shop elsewhere. In any event I am stunned. First, I am baffled by the extreme reactions I got to requesting a deck stain be mixed. Secondly I was offended by the work colleague who scolded me rather than do service recovery saying the workers not only work hard but stick together. So don't expect a neighborly hardware store to shop at when it come to this store. Instead expect a place where the culture has changed and soured. Very sad. And yes, as advised I will go elsewhere to a big box store in the future where people are friendlier. read more

Shopping at this store feels like an "old time "experience. All of the employees work very hard to make sure you leave the store with everything you came for. Literally every time I walk into the store, I do not get very far before someone asks me what I am there for, and then takes me directly to it. read more

I would give you 5 stars, but ... I am a pretty regular customer. Being a working man I usually stop in on the weekends. The problem I have is the knowledge/experience of your staff on the weekends. I think you need better employee training for the weekend staff. They often do not know what you do or do not have in stock ( especially plumbing dept). I usually end up explaining things to your weekend staff. I have been by a few times during the week and your employees working at that time were very knowledgeable. Just something to think about. I still plan to be a loyal customer and I cannot stand to go to home d or lowes. read more

I recently moved to Baldwinsville and had never frequented an ACE before. I've never been to a hardware store that is part gift shop and part hardware store. They have a good selection of items for a neighborhood store and they have noteworthy customer service each time I've visited. read more

Great place to shop local. For a small shop they have most anything you need to make a quick repair around the house. The staff is really knowledgable and helpful and they have a gift shop attached where I have often found last minute but seemingly well thought out gifts. The added bonus of discount coupons in the mail that dont expire in a week is nice to help off set the higher prices that come with it not being a big box store. I like to SHOP LOCAL!! read more

I went in to get a dryer cord, and they were super helpful. Being a girl, I had no idea what I was getting. I showed them a picture and they got what I needed within minutes.
