I would give them a zero if I could. We used them to move within Florida and store for several months. I am missing items -- several kitchen boxes are just gone. Glass items are broken because they were put on the bottom of boxes with not padding and heavy items thrown in on top. I have items that are not mine -- so someone else is missing a ladder. Waiting with a friend for a pickup of a piano, The time slot was 9am to 10pm and here it is almost 2:30 pm and no sign or word from them. The people who hired them keep giving us a song and a dance about when they are coming, or trying to contact them. Any other reliable mover would tell the person who hired them what is going on. In a tech world, calls, texts etc. is the way companies keep in contact with thier clients. It's a P poof way to conduct business. I would never hire them in the near future or any other time. This is my experience with Village Movers and Storage. I would only recommend this company to someone I absolutely despise. My parents hired them to move their home and items in their storage unit from Florida to Texas. According to constant updates throughout the process from my parents it went poorly from the start. I also have my own experience with the company once they got to Texas. They showed up hours late to my parents' new home. We didn't realize how badly they would treat my parents' things until they arrived in Texas. It became evident very quickly that they did not organize anything that was packed. We also started seeing items come in broken in pieces. They ruined family heirlooms. Childhood pictures were scattered on the floor of the moving truck. Chunks and scrapes were all over multiple pieces of furniture. Shards of glass were lying in the bottom of boxes. I have plenty of pictures and video evidence of the treatment of all of the boxes and furniture. The men packing and moving clearly threw boxes wherever they would fit on the truck (have more picture evidence). We found a solid wood headboard on the floor of the moving truck with dollies and boxes lying on top haphazardly. The men also carried in pieces of beds taped to random boxes. Rugs have stains on them and my parents' beautiful fabric bed frame is covered in black marks. A big canvas piece of art has finger prints stretched into it with brown marks from dirt. I'm not sure that we will ever find all of the pieces to put everything back together because everything was left in complete disarray. Now that I have painted a picture of the treatment of my parents' things I will describe the way they were treated by everyone in the company. The owner of the company called my mom a liar for being upset and letting him know that the movers were late on arrival. The son of the owner called my mom a smarta$$ for getting upset about the treatment of their things. He refused to allow his men to unload the rest of their trucks and held my parents' things hostage while demanding that they get cash to complete the payment outside of the contract agreement. My parents had to go to the local police department. The police department contacted the owner of the company who claimed that he had directed his men to take my parents' things to a separate storage unit until they procured a money order with the rest of payment before they had completed the terms of the contract. The treatment was absolutely despicable and disgusting considering the condition of their furniture. The movers cursed at my parents and ended up almost getting in a fist fight with each other before they were kicked off of the property. I am only thankful that we were able to get the rest of the boxes off of the truck and nobody got hurt. Also the movers smelled overwhelmingly of weed and should not be operating moving vehicles. Virtually every piece of furniture was damaged. If it was wood, it was scratched or broken. If it was fabric, it looked like it was dragged across a filthy floor. When my home sold in 2 days with about 3 weeks to move out I became so overwhelmed at what needed to be done. I just can't say enough positive comments about how Nate assured me that his company would get my home packed up, stored before I left for Michigan in September. He organized a team to pack one day and another team to deliver boxes the following day to this storage company. He. kept me up to date on times, details, etc. He contacted me about a week ago to let me know that my stored items would soon be coming to Portage, Mi. The truck of 80+ boxes arrived right on schedule. The storage unit is the perfect size! The driver even dropped off my china cabinet and grandfather clock at my home separately! I would have given NO stars if that was a possibility! It is said that the only thing people remember is the first and last part of whatever it is they read. With that in mind, the only good thing I will start off saying about Village Movers and Storage is Devin Sherwood. As soon as he was made aware of the issue, he went into action to try and rectify it as quickly as possible. I apologize for the length of this review, but there is much to be said. I'm happy to hear that others had a good experience. However, in my case I would NEVER recommend Village Movers and Storage to anyone even if the only thing they wanted to move was a doghouse! Nate was very personable when we first met; I was (locally) moving from a 2br apartment in Wildwood to a small house in Ocala. I was sent the price quote via email for $2300-2400 dollars for the move which I thought was reasonable after my move the year before being $2200. The two men who did the initial packing were personable and I asked for them to be the ones who did the actual moving. But boy am I ever sorry I did!!! When the furniture was delivered and they were leaving, I was given the bill, it was $3140 - supposedly due to extra "labor" charges. How could he have given such a poor estimate to begin with? It's his business to know, even if it would have been a ballpark figure, maybe an additional $200-$300 but NOT $740-$840 difference. Oh, and before I forget, one of the movers actually came back after I'd given him the check and asked if the amount included a TIP? That was the first issue. The second was the movers rolled my Tempur-Pedic bed up like a rug and taped it. When I saw it later that evening, it looked like there was a body INSIDE the mattress. There was nothing wrong with that mattress before the move. Nate came over the next day to try and stretch it back to normal - part of the lump was gone; but anyone who knows Tempur-Pedic knows the damage was done. I told him I wanted a new mattress. Let's jump to 5 weeks later and there STILL had not been a resolution to getting a new one. Never once did Dominic, who I believe is the owner of the company, reach out to me. I was given his number by Nate and told to contact him. Whatever happened to customer service? Without question, HE should have called ME as soon as it happened to fix this by replacing the damaged one. I waited as long as I could but with company coming, I needed a bed. By this time, Nate said he was no longer involved, telling me that damage wasn't his department, and he turned me over to Devin. Not his department??? Shouldn't he have done that 5 weeks before?? So much time wasted and stress I should have NEVER been put under. So I went out and bought a new Tempur-Pedic (on sale, floor model originally $4200 for $2400). As I told Nate, I wasn't a greedy person; I simply wanted the bed replaced as it should have been in the beginning. So Devin was now involved; but because I'd gone out and purchased the new mattress, it apparently changed what he could do. So now he asked me what I would accept as fair monetary compensation. I said I wanted the cost of the mattress - $2400 - which he said the owner wouldn't do. I told him I'd settle for half. Now here's the bad news folks, not only did the moving company stiff me on the actual move, they didn't want to pay for the mattress. Dominic started with an offer of $500 (insulting) but Devin was able to get $850 - still insulting as far as I'm concerned. I live on a fixed income and relied on this company to take care of me and my things - THEY DID NOT DO EITHER! It is stated that hindsight is great, and this whole NEGATIVE experience is a perfect example of that! Not one piece of my furniture wasn't damaged in some way from light scratching to small gouges; unwrapped light bulbs rolling around in boxes. And it goes on and on...REMINDER: THEY ASKED FOR A TIP... So, the bottom line here, is that a 21-mile local move which should have cost me no more than $2400 or a little bit more ended up costing me $4690 and Village Movers and Storage simply didn't care. read more

Village Movers were fantastic. Called a different companies initially. I not only had my questions answered the first call but Nate followed up with me. Very proffessional and communicative. Our closing was delayed and the initial company I hired fell thru.. in a pinch I called Nate back. He made it happen without blinking an eye. Amateur job. Warning! DO NOT USE. I have a 3,000sq house. Only moving big items like bed and couches no boxes at all. They pull up in a ram truck with a trailer. 2 guys smaller than me show up and barley had the strength to move the items. I had to help them out because they were dropping the items with a dolly not being careful with the items either they didnt care or was too much for them. Many scratches and many damages. They dropped the sewing machines and never fixed the damages. Only gave me $170 off because they had to make two trips with the trailer when they said they were going to bring the big truck. Should have used 2 men and a truck because the damages were a lot more than what they were quoting. read more

BEWARE!!! Biggest SHYSTERS ever!!!! This company lies, cost us so much money. Packers never finished packing, movers came and moved 40% of belongings unpacked, including all TV's. Broke $4000 worth of our tvs. Broke jewelry box and lost half of jewelry. Damaged every piece of furniture we own. Threw our belongs in storage unit like trash. Packed propane tank, guns and ammunition in the truck to storage. One of the movers was under the influence of something. They forgot to pack one of our garages, came back the next day and charged us more money for that. Owner (from New York)would not help me rectify situation at move. Point of contact Nate would not call me back. When they finally did, first they promised us a new tv, after weeks of putting me off they reneged that statement. I thought this was who I hired until the day of the move and there were no black trucks.. they took two days to pack due having a jacuzzi in the truck from a previous move. You could accomplish the same getting a truck and day laborers. Look up John Dominic Sullivan on Google. Lil John movers = Village Movers and Storage. No DOT number available for you to check. No customer service whatsoever. You will get to hear about his daughter, grandma and parents but he isn't going to pay for any damages. The Villages is filled with parasitic contractors who file bankruptcy and come back under another name to continue scamming seniors. We are preyed upon as seniors and JDS is just another vulture. He won't file a claim probably because he has intermittent or no insurance coverage on his business. He promises but if something is damaged you are on your own. I too hired these guys thinking it was the villages movers we had used before from Fruitland Park. Were suppose to show at 8:30 am, but only 2 packers showed up at noon, no trailer. Then at 1pm the trailer shows up, not a black villages movers trailer so we asked about it and Dominic said they had so much business they had to get additional equipment! Trailer showed up with no dollys or 4 wheelers, so let them use mine until some were delivered later. Packers all worked hard and were courteous, no complaints with the packets. Was scheduled to be delivered to Texas on Monday, but 2 break downs and a third truck later we received the delivery on Friday afternoon, but without my OLED tv that got left hind. Said they ship it and have it to me by Monday! Nope didn't get delivery until Saturday! And of course it was damaged. Furniture damaged were recorded and sent to both Nate and Dominic, but they would not file the claim, obviously they say they have insurance that covers 60%, but I doubt they actually have insurance. read more

If I could have given them a "0" star I would have. Such a terrible move I can't even write all they ruined. Did NOT wrap anything, mattresses torn and really dirty. All the black fabric under the bottom of chairs and footstools was ripped and torn. Garbage bags full of broken dishes and kitchen stuff, even bent a stainless steel bowl. A white two seat couch with black footprints on the cushions. Banged every wall in our new house. Had to give the drivers gas money for their rented moving truck to bring my second load. Had a HORRIBLE experience with these people! I am five states away, a 15 hour drive, and really needed to be able to count on VMS doing what they said they would do. At first they seemed very customer service oriented. Two people met me at my storage unit and loaded boxes from the unit into a trailer I had brought down. However, there were big items that i was not going to be able to take with me and the owner of VMS told me that they would take these items and sell what they could and keep at least some of the proceeds. I had to be out by a certain date so as not to incur additional charges. They did not move the items on the day I was in town, because the owner did not show as he said he would. Instead the young guy that was helping with the boxes said he would do it within the next few days. A few days later, I received a photo from him of the emptied unit and was so excited to be done with it! But the day after receiving the photo, I received a call from the storage facility that there were items piled outside my unit in the driving lane of the facility. The moving company hadn't hauled all the items away after all. They took the items they wanted, washer/dryer, mattress and box spring, sofa sleeper, and then moved the rest of the items out of the unit and took a photo, leading me to believe all was well. The girl at the front desk of the storage facility had to drag the stuff back into the unit and then she placed their lock on the door. I explained to the her what the situation was, but there wasn't a lot she could do for me. So, I called John at VMS and worked it out so they would finish things up on Monday. But nobody showed. The storage facility then called John and he told her that it was ME who left the stuff out of the unit, not his guys! Anyway... he told her they would come on Tuesday. Again... nobody showed. Here it is Wednesday and he won't return my calls. This has been nothing but a headache and they are not willing to make it right. They already got my money, so what do they care if I'm unhappy! As I said: DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY! They over promise and under deliver! RUN AWAY! RUN FAR, FAR AWAY from them and tell everyone you know that they are crooks and jerks! If you do not heed my warning and use them anyway, DO NOT PAY THEM UNTIL THEY HAVE DONE EVERY LAST THING THEY SAID THEY WOULD! Otherwise, as soon as they have your money, they will disappear! And I couldn't even get a receipt! I called three times asking for that, but no one returned my call. What a dick! If I could have put ZERO stars, that's what i would have selected. I got a quote for moving my mother-in-law from The Villages to her new home 15 minutes away. The move took place on July 1, 2017. When it came time to write the check my husband was told by Tom (the mover) to write it out to Zip Ship Movers not Village Movers, which he did. A floor lamp was broken during the move so I called John (sometimes it's a Bill .....I think it's the same guy) and was told to send a picture so that he could replace it. After several calls every week I was told they would just send me a check for replacement. ALL LIES. I've been calling weekly since July and have been getting the run around. I'm so glad I found this site with this company on it! I, too, have a horror story created by Dominic! I had thought I'd hired Village Mover (the REAL good guys!) but when the U-Haul truck with no lift gate arrived 2 hours late, with not 3 experienced movers as promised, but 1 big brute and a skinny dude half his size (horribly mismatched for lifting) red flags went up all over the place! They had one broken furniture dolly and no pads/blankets with which to protect my solid oak furniture. After manhandling and damaging all they managed to get on their truck, there was no room left for items from the garage, which had been listed to move...those ended up being moved in our F150 pickup in 5 trips from Ocala to Fruitland Park! My brand new Tempurpedic mattress was literally dragged out of the truck and across the driveway, becoming a filthy mess! When getting the furniture to Fruitland Park, and I voiced my displeasure with the pathetic move, threatening to withhold the amount due, I was told my things would remain on the truck until I paid the bill. By this time, it was almost 10 pm so I felt I had to ransom my things! I called Dominic the next day to no avail. I emailed him complaining about the sorry experience and had no response. It's people like that who make the world a sad place to live and he should be ashamed of himself, but apparently he's still up to his shenanigans. Missing boxes...lack of response...as if they don't care. Great at first with kind, friendly conversation and movers. Put our stuff into storage for a couple of months and arranged for delivery at the new location. Once they were done and we started to unpack we noticed numerous missing boxes. Called and left numerous messages. Today we finally got a hold of James and he acted as if we never conversed before. Common theme here with these people, do not call them and deal with John Dominick Sullivan. The company is not an honest, legitimate company, but more of a scam moving company using the Villages name to sound more legit and get your attention. They over promise and under deliver. They showed up in June 8 hours late for our move and with a trailer which was way too small to handle all our items, not the large moving truck that was promised. Needless to say about 40% of the items did not fit in the trailer and the nightmare just got worse from there. Some furniture was damaged as were doorjambs in the house from items they moved. Dom then wanted more money to move the rest of the furniture even though he already assured us all would fit on the truck in his original quote. In retrospect, I'm not sure that truck even exists. Long story short, after reading these reviews, please do not call them as you WILL regret it, even if their price seems to good to be true! Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably isn't, and that's certainly the case with these guys. And if you see them, run the other way...fast! read more
