Love this place! Saw Ryan for my cut in early January. It's been growing out soooo well! He masterfully removed some of the weight while keeping the length. It's translated so well and has become one of my favorite haircuts ever. Whether I wear it straight which is my usual go to or wavy (air dried which I rarely do because of how it air dries) , it looks great! Such a beautiful addition to the West Village scene of small businesses in Detroit! I've booked color (w/ Eric) and hair style/cut services (w/ Ryan) on several occasions. I've never really been loyal to any particular stylist or salon due to my often unpredictable work schedule, however these gentleman are the real deal and worth coming back to! I wanted low maintenance, blend-able color that would cover grey hair and Eric REALLY delivered. My hair feels beautiful and healthy, and I've been able to go 5+ months until my next appointment. Ryan provides complimentary bang trims that have also helped me extend my style without having to come in as frequently for a hair cut. The space is gorgeous and I love the smell of the R+Co products they use. I would highly recommend their services to anyone - they are worth every penny! read more

Went for a highlight and a cut and was there for 4 hours! Not even exaggerating. I left without any sign of new color in my hair and had to go home and trim my uneven ends. I paid $215! before tip. I loved this place from my past appointment and so upset with this visit that I won't ever return. Such a huge disappoint and waste of a lot of money. read more

I visit VP whenever I'm in town visiting family and it is the best salon experience I've ever had. I've had cuts by Nichole and Ryan and recently had my hair colored for the first time by Nichole. As far as my haircut goes, I have worn it every possible way (air dried, diffused w some product, blow dried, blow dried w flat iron, blow dried and waved, etc.) and it works no matter what- the sign of an amazing cut, in my opinion. I'm a busy mom of two young kids and my haircuts this year have made such a difference in my day bc I don't need to spend as much time styling my hair! When I told Nichole what I wanted as far as color goes, I said I wanted it to be natural, but somewhat noticeable, and she 100% delivered. I love that it doesn't scream, "I have highlights, look at me!", but instead just enhances my natural color. Everyone at VP is super friendly, the coffee is good, the playlist is always fun and different, and I've even stopped in when they had free Sister Pie for clients. Yes, please! read more

I have finally found my new hair salon! I've been struggling with my hair color for the past few years, living with a brassy mess on my head that no colorist could seem to solve... until today! Sarah did an amazing job with the color and I'm finally back to the hair I love. She listened to what I wanted and paid attention to detail making sure my hair looks good wearing it down and up as my wedding is around the corner and I will have an updo. After the color Jenna took over and did a great job with the cut. She listened to my vision and made it even better. As a native Detroiter, I think the recent changes and improvements are pretty awesome. This hair salon is one of the newer spots in my Detroit neighborhood, so I thought I'd give it a shot. This salon is aesthetically pleasing and seems to heavily appeal to hipsters based on the clientele inside. The staff is friendly, too. These are my reasons for the 2-star rating versus a 1-star. As a person of mixed heritage, it can be difficult for me to find people who truly know how to cut curly, full-bodied hair. I had my fingers crossed for Village Parlor, mainly because I wanted the convenience of having my salon in the neighborhood. When I was booking my appointment, I was pretty upfront about needing someone who felt comfortable and confident about cutting my hair. I was assigned to that person (won't mention names because my review has nothing to do with my stylist - she was very nice.) When I sat down to discuss my desired cut, I was met with a "how do you wear your hair - curly or straight?" That immediately told me this cut may not be great, as most people do not pre-determine their hairstyle for the next few months. It really shouldn't matter how I wear my hair if you know how to cut shape and style. The stylist started the cut with a wash, and when I got in the chair, she proceeded to finger comb hair product through my curls. This was another no-no, as anyone who truly understands wavy/curly hair understands that combing fingers through it frizzes it and destroys the curl pattern. Oh well! As the stylist proceeded to cut each wave/curl of my hair into a sporadically curly "style", I noticed my hair looking terrible - like a frizzy, uneven cotton ball. The stylist proceeded to add MORE product, combing it through making it worse. We then went to the wash bowl again, because it was clear the stylist was overwhelmed by the natural texture and state of my hair - this was an attempt to tame it. I could just see the situation getting worse and worse. In total, we visited the wash bowl THREE times to wet my hair. WHY?! Because my stylist did not understand mixed race/ethnic hair and it's tendencies. All of the water and washing made my hair increasingly frizzy and untamable. My [short] cut was horribly uneven, and I left the salon covering my head in embarrassment. I was mortified by my "new look". Fortunately, I was able to locate another salon the following day to have the cut fixed. I find it difficult to understand how and why a new salon would set-up in a primarily Black and multi-ethnic neighborhood/city without stylists who can service the entire community. This is not a salon that features an all-inclusive variety of talent and stylists, but it is a pretty salon to look at on the block. I hope we get more ethnically conscious businesses in the neighborhood, as we all need and deserve these same services. read more

Best salon i've ever been to! i've always wanted to go blonder but have had many traumatic experiences over the years! Eric listened carefully to what i wanted and was also able to advise me as to what route we should take to get me to where i want to be. he is incredibly talented and my hair is EXACTLY what i wanted!! My cut from Ryan was also perfect for my hair texture and he taught me easy ways to style it. the atmosphere at village parlor is also so welcoming and enjoyable (they offered me a mimosa at my last appointment) and you feel like a queen the entire process. read more
