I had a weirdly bad blow out at 6 Salon a few weeks ago. I was Maid of Honor for my best friend's wedding and picked this salon because it had great reviews, looked nice, and was walking distance from our hotel. Everyone here was really nice. And in fact my "stylist" was really kind and friendly. But in hindsight I think she knew as little about styling hair as I do. She air dried my curly hair twisting tiny chunks of my hair around her pinky finger one section at a time. I'd never had that done before, but I know nothing so I'm not surprised by anything people do to hair. This took a long time. Then at the end my hair was still quite damp so I asked if she could dry it all the way. She couldn't attach the diffuser to the hair dryer, so it kept falling off, so she tried 3 different diffusers but they all kept falling off. So then she just held it in place with her other hand. Then when my hair was mostly dry she put a bunch of products in it. All along I had been worried that I wasn't going to be able to get my hair to look great enough (I have curly hair that's pretty about 80% of the time but unpredictable and does what it wants). I had practiced blow drying my hair myself and I should have just done that. I left the salon feeling like at least I tried my hardest and went somewhere to try, but unsure if my hair was any better. The answer was no, I walked into the bridal suite and my best friend instantly said "you wasted your time and money. That's the same as your normal hair." Her hair and makeup people couldn't believe I had gone to a salon. Luckily her hair stylist had brought a curling iron with her and had a few minutes and she fixed my hair. But she did apologize because she said my hair was still damp so the curling iron was going to damage it. I would have been better off not going to 6 Salon for a blowout. If I had just combed and air dried my hair it would have been better off. But other people's hair looked fine. So I'm not sure which stylists are are good and which need training. read more

Brooke is amazing! She really listened to my ideas and provided wonderful suggestions. I love my hair cut! I'm so grateful to have found Brooke and this salon. The salon is very bright and clean, and a great vibe. Everyone is very kind here. Easy to schedule appointments online. I like how you can tip your stylist directly with Venmo and their Venmo QR codes are at the counter during check out. Brooke also gave me a lot of helpful information regarding the products she used on my hair, and styling tips. I appreciate that she gave me a haircut that is low maintenance, like me, since I'm a wash and go kind of gal. My hair was really weighing me down and Brooke transformed my hair and I feel lighter and brighter. I will definitely be a repeat customer. read more

6 salon went above and beyond in so many ways that it's difficult to decide what is best about it! The booking process is simple and straightforward, and they make the check in super easy. The wait time is usually minimal, and they offer you beverages while you wait, which is always a nice touch. The salon itself has a great atmosphere, with it being open and airy, with it being pretty well accessible for disabled people as well-which is really nice, as many places say they are, but really aren't. The salon staff is very friendly, do excellent work, and are very respectful and understanding of their clientele's needs, concerns, health, and time constraints. They were able to get me in on fairly short notice and they gave me a fabulous haircut that has managed to keep a great shape and style as it has grown out. They also did a phenomenal job on my husband's hair, which means even more to me than my own right now. The haircut he just received from them (in mid-December 2024) was his first haircut after he had 3 months of chemotherapy from May-August 2024. He lost all of his hair from it, and it made him feel pretty self-conscious. When it grew back in, he had lost his part, and he felt it looked weird and scraggly. The staff there did an incredible job of helping him feel at ease, giving him a relaxing experience (and not just a chop of the hair), and they took the time to find a style that suits him perfectly. When he got home, he was all smiles, and was excited to show off his hair, which he hadn't been in a long time. Clean and bright salon with generous and comfortable waiting area including Hour Detroit magazines, which is great because many visitors will frequent this salon and Hour Detroit represents metro Detroit extremely well. I went to see Haley to get my hair cut and to go as blonde as I could in one session. Very nice and friendly staff. The salon is nice, clean and big and mostly important to me is that they have great professional stylists. I really liked the service. I only had a shampoo and blow dry- I requested for an iron to make my hair more smooth and the charge was an additional $20... I thought that was a little much extra. Stylist didn't show up on my wedding day. I came in from out of town for a style/ blowout. They require online booking only. I called them 2 days prior to confirm and I received an automatic confirmation the day before for my 7:30 appointment. On arrival, I was told my appointment was not at 7:30 (it was) but instead at 8:00. No problem, came back at 8. 8:15, still no stylist. Wedding at 9:30a. Receptionist let me know that the stylist had a problem with her app, didn't know she had an appointment & wouldn't be there. At a salon that requires online booking! I was told no one else was available to perform the service so I left. Did my own hair. Got a call at 8:45a that someone was now available. 1 hour 15 min after my original schedule & 45 min before my wedding. If you have something important or are in from out of town, don't waste your time. read more

It was hard to pick a stylist, but after looking at Instagram I chose Brooke and I couldn't be happier with my choice. She listened to exactly what I wanted and the final outcome made me leave so happy. She is so talented and easy to talk to. I can't wait to go back for another appointment. BUYER BEWARE - I booked a blowout online which listed the price as $38. I called to ask if they could add a few soft curls and they said there would be a small additional fee. When I went to pay after my appointment it was $86. An 'additional fee' of $48 for curls! Also, I've visited the salon twice. The first time I waited 45 minutes past my appointment time and yesterday I waited 30 minutes past my scheduled start time. Brooke did a good job, but almost $100 (with tip) for a blowout and a few curls is absolutely unreasonable. I will not be back. read more

All women know that once you find The Stylist, you follow them anywhere. I found April years ago, and when I found out that she'd moved to 6 Salon, pretty much across Woodward from where I work, I walked through an actual snowstorm (just a couple of blocks but STILL) to check it out. They weren't even open yet, but were incredibly friendly and happy to give my bedraggled self a tour, and get me booked through the spring (I come in once a month because I have stubborn resistant gray that laughs in the face of almost everything, April tamed it ages ago). I'm actually AT the salon as I'm writing this review, because it's the perfect location for all the professionals living and working in Detroit. Super-clean, great staff, and so incredibly convenient. So the location is definitely part of the draw, but April is what got me to switch salons (nothing against my old one, but she's The Stylist for me). April is unbelievably talented, but she's one of the sweetest, most humble people you'll ever meet. She's one of those people that you almost wonder..."Is she REALLY that awesome?" Yep, she is. A true artist at what she does, puts everyone at ease, and has an ability to truly read someone's personality and style them in then a way that inevitably makes them happy that they took her advice. Pasha was AMAZING! I desperately needed help after moving cross-country for professional school and having school photos in a week. She fit me in between her other appointments as mine took longer and I was unable to come in for a consultation to plan it out. I know it was a lot of work for her to take on but she was kind and welcoming to me and her other clients. She never rushed through any steps or sacrificed the quality of her work. I loved that she was upfront and honest about how the appointment would go with needing to split time and how long it would take to complete. On top of all that, the price was still very reasonable. Instead my stylist called my hair "old school" and "un realistic looking" when discussing my hair color. It was supposed to be a really positive experience and ultimately felt me feeling insulted. Alright, so I've been here a few times now for hair cuts, Brazilian blowouts and hair coloring. For the most part I've had great experiences, hence the 4 stars. However, this one incident really rubbed me the wrong way. I came in at 1 for a hair coloring appt. I asked the front desk if I would be out by 2/210 and she said no problem. I wasn't greeted by my hairstylist until ~120 and I asked him the same thing, to which he said yes. Maybe I should have known that it would take longer, but how would I know that?! I wish they would have just told me to make a new appointment and come back because by 210 they still had me with hair dye in under the big dryer. Completely disregarded me asking to be out by 210. Around 2 I asked someone if I would be done soon and she offered to rinse me and have me leave with wet hair in 20 degree weather... My hair is long and would completely freeze. I left around 230 with half wet hair and a ton of dye that demolished my all white shower later in the day. I paid for the full hair coloring AND blowout, and gave a nice tip because of the holidays - but next time just tell your client to come back if the treatment won't be done in time!!!!! read more
