I am truly honored to write this review for Villagio. My first experience with this wonderful facility was more than 13 years ago, when my dear mother lived here. We had an outstanding experience then, and I'm happy to say that Villagio remains truly exceptional today. After touring five or six different memory care communities, we knew right away that Villagio was the best choice for Mom. Years later, when it was time to move my brother, I couldn't help comparing his facility in New Jersey to the high standard I had seen at Villagio. For a couple of years, I worked closely with Sami Fox, Marketing Director, to make the transition possible. She was incredibly helpful, patient, and welcoming--inviting me to visit anytime as I navigated the process of moving him across the country. Though the move was challenging, it was absolutely the right decision. As we entered the doors to Villagio for the first time, with my brother, he was reluctant to stay in a new place. Tonya and Marilyn were there to take this burden off our hands and they relaxed him with conversation and a tour of his new home. The Villagio staff were kind and supportive as my brother slowly adjusted, which helped him settle in remarkably well. I visit often, and I can honestly say that every single team member here is compassionate and respectful. It begins the minute I walk in the door as I am greeted with a cheery hello and smile from Jan or Grace. You can hear it in the way staff speak to the residents--with warmth and dignity. The activities are engaging and varied, and the holidays are especially festive and joyful. A few times a month, families are invited to join special events, which is a lovely touch. The food is both healthy and delicious--my brother often raves about his meals and desserts. I see great rapport when staff deliver meals. Smiles and laughter are common. Communication is also excellent; Bree keeps me well informed through calls and texts, so I always feel connected. Choosing the right place for a loved one is never easy, but it brings me such peace of mind knowing my brother is receiving such attentive, heartfelt care. The Med Tech Team are all knowledgeable and responsive to my brother's and all the residents' needs. He tells me they are so gentle putting his hearing aids on each day. As a bonus, the other residents are delightful, and it's heartwarming to see them forming friendships and feeling safe in this caring environment. Went here just to see what memory care looks like and what a nice facility this was. It was so nice and it felt so relaxing. They had cute birds, a movie theater, activities, 2 dining rooms, upstairs and elevators and cute balloons for those with birthdays. This is so nice if you need to place your loved one. I recently had the opportunity to tour Villaigo at Capriana Memory Care Community, and I was truly impressed with the overall experience. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, very well maintained, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed to create a welcoming and calming environment for loved ones. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. From the moment I arrived, I ran into the director and she was super sweet and helpful, Capriana is definitely a place I'll be considering for my loved one. Sami is the marketing director and was very knowledgeable in her field and answered all my questions and concerns. Everyone was warm, professional, and happy to answer questions. It's clear that they genuinely care about the residents and take pride in providing high-quality care and support. While this community is on the pricier side compared to some other options, the cost feels justified given the luxury atmosphere, beautiful surroundings, and the level of personalized treatment and attention residents receive. The environment feels upscale, comfortable, and dignified -- which is so important in a memory care setting. read more

We chose this location for our mom just about a year ago. We had visited many care facilities; we are very happy with our decision of Villagio. Of importance to us in selecting a place for mom was leadership, communication between family and staff, respect for the residents, safety, cleanliness, activities and meals. Bree's leadership has brought this wishlist to reality. She takes the time to listen, explain, adjust if needed and above all treats staff, residents and their families with care and compassion. The Med Tech team is on top of every resident's medication regime. The rapport they develop with resident's is exceptional and appreciated. The caregivers are knowledgeable and so friendly. The dining room team pays careful attention to each resident's dietary situations and bring joy to the dining experience. The activities team provides on-site fun and off-site experiences that residents truly to enjoy. Safety is paramount at Villagio; we never worry about our mom's safety. Cleanliness - you won't find a better than Villagio. I encourage you to look at Villagio should your loved one need to be in a memory care facility. They truly are the best. read more

Villagio at Capriana Memory Care Community - Retirement Homes Near Me - Brea, California

It's been a year since my mother passed away. After many months of under going therapy for myself due to guilt over moving my mother into Villagio, I am now able to write this review. When we moved my mother into Villagio we were told many things that sounded wonderful. Later, little by little we found out that they had been lying to us. I went to visit my mom every day and saw many negative things but of course some were positive and the caregivers were wonderful. Even though I complimented the management and the service, I noticed that most of the employees and caregivers were very depressed and they were always shorthanded. One day when my sister went to visit, all the residence were sitting alone without even one employee in sight for at least 10-15 minutes. But the worse thing was that one evening they had left my mother alone with a temp agency woman who wheeled my mother into her room around 7-8pm and left her there in her wheel chair with just a small t-shirt and pullups. My mother slipped out of the wheel chair and cut both her legs open. Later we found out that she had been laying on the floor like that for hours until the nightshift came and found her laying there in pain and full of blood!!! Not one manager checked on the temp agency lady. The night shift girls who were wonderful got fired for telling us what happened!!! We didn't sue. I wish we did!! I decided to write this letter in honor of my beautiful mother so that this may never ever happen to anyone else's elderly loved one!!! read more

Nice to have met Brad the manager. Television was the star and central focus here. Many residents and caregivers were watching that afternoon we visited. A nice touch incorporated into the design are photo boxes compiled by families of the residents---to gently remind them of their happy moments in life. The walking trails are beautiful and gives one a chance to get out, walk and experience nature and according to my coveted Neurologist advisor it's mandatory. Say Hi to Emo Ramsey and her four legged friend. The Aviary was a thoughtful touch and hearing joyful chirps was truly melodic. This facility is improving and its great to see evidence of such specialized care being given in a loving environment to patients that have memory issues. Comforting to know that "no one is taking advantage" of someone's Mother, Father or beloved family member. Sister facility is Capriana---amazing facility with a dining room, crystal chandeliers and exceptional staff. read more

My mom has been here since just before covid started. So it's not exactly been "normal" operations. We've had a few bumps (like not letting me see her, even through the window, for a visit- but we got that worked out and the policy changed), and of course there is turnover in places like this, but I looked at many facilities and this one was by far the best. Now that the covid situation is under control, they are back to doing activities with the residents on a regular basis. I come in at different hours, and often times they are engaged in games, art, or are even being entertained by live singers or performers. They also host multiple events each month where families are invited to join. Everything from a Luau, complete with hula dancers and a delicious Hawaiian lunch, to holiday shopping markets, to amazing holiday feasts, and more. The facility itself is beautiful. Doesn't have that "old folks home" smell. Always fresh and clean. And the grounds- full access to a walking path with a koi pond, pool, and party facilities you can rent for free to host events with your loved one there. We've done a few birthday parties for mom and they are very helpful with it. Staff is helpful and friendly. There have been a few caregivers that I feel really love my mom and take care of her like she is their own mother. I know she feels loved there. Although she is coming to the end of her Alzheimer's journey, there's no better place I would want her to be at this challenging time. Also, I don't know why Yelp is suppressing several good reviews for this place. I read them and they don't seem to violate any rules, so keep that in mind when you look at the overall ratings. My mom had been at the adjacent Capriana for a few years, which is a nice facility and she was happy there. Finally, though, her Alzheimer's got to the point that she needed more help. So we moved her over to the Villagio. Even though we were able to move Mom into Villagio at the same time as her best friend, it was a tough transition for Mom. It was made harder because things weren't great at the Villagio when Mom first moved there. As some have noted, at that time, residents were parked in front of the TV. However, over time things improved, especially when Ravin (sp?) came in as Activities Director and later Jacqueline. Nicole in Activities was also patient and kind with residents. These employees were upbeat and made a huge difference in keeping residents busy. Any memory care facility is going to be plagued by high turnover. It's a really demanding job, and the pay is not what it should be for this kind of work. But the majority of the staff are great. From the gals in housekeeping, to Adrienne and staff who serve meals, to Jacqueline in activities, Som and the meds staff including Jason and Carmen, everyone was friendly and as attentive as they could be, given the workload. I know I'm forgetting some names, but the staff truly care about the residents and are kind. In particular I'd like to commend the hands-on care givers, Roberto, who was there the entire two years my mom was there and cared for Mom in the evening, and Briana and Freddy who were hands-on during the morning. Taliyah also helped for a time with my mom, and Villagio is lucky to have her as well. I would give Villagio a 5-star if not for the variability while Mom was there. My advice for anyone putting a loved one in any facility is be there as much as you can to monitor what's going on, be an advocate when you see things that need to change, but also be supportive when you see staff doing things right. read more

I can't think of any better place or people for the care of a loved one with memory loss. It's such a lovely facility and every detail has been thoughtfully designed for optimum resident engagement - it genuinely creates a sense of home. The caregivers pour their hearts into everything they do and treat the residents like they're own family. Villagio has been such a blessing for my mother and my family. We have peace of mind knowing that she is in good hands and well taken care of. My mother has been there for a little over a year now and seems to be genuinely happy and comfortable. The facility is gorgeous! There is an aviary, movie theatre, and a large event room. Every time I go to visit, they are doing something exciting like bowling or painting. They have a wonderful staff that takes them on beautiful walks around the trails outside too. Staff at Villagio are exceptional. The current director there, Susan, is amazing. She has really turned Villagio into something magnificent. Staff is always around to assist and they are always so pleasant. Overall, Villagio was the best choice for my mother. We couldn't be happier. This expression of sorrow was issued more than 5 months after my father's death, during a Dept. of Social Services investigation, and only in response to a negative Yelp review. Condolences with a statement of Villagio policy and a suggestion that conversation is welcome suggest more an effort to lessen negative social media comments than to finally reach out to family of the deceased resident. read more

Do not put your loved one here. It looks beautiful but they do not care for the residents. The so called med techs have no knowledge of medications. My mother has fallen 4 times and their excuse is that they can't watch everyone. Now she can no longer walk. Rather than take her to the bathroom they put diapers on her. They claim to have dementia care but all they do is seat the whole group of residents in front of the television . There is absolutely no individualized care for your loved one. There are not enough caregivers to care for the number of residents that they have. They feed theses poor souls cheap food in very small portions. I'm moving my mother as soon as possible. read more
