First and most importantly, i would like to say, I HAVE TERRIBLE ANXIETY when it comes to the dentist. After 3 years of not seeing a dentist due to me being terrified, i finally went to see Vimala Vontela today. Her office was warm and welcoming, her dental assistant was AWSOME, she felt my anxiety and offered water. Vimala Vontela was super FRIENDLY, explained everything to me. I let her know about how scared i was and she was super comforting. She was unable to do the extraction i needed due to some medical problems i have, however i will be seeing her for fillings and everything else i need. I am visiting my daughter from out of town and a veneer came off of a front tooth. They gave me an appt the same day. I got lost and was late, but they still saw me. Everyone was nice and helpful. If I could give 0 stars, I would. I have never reviewed anything on yelp before but this was the most horrifying experience that I feel everyone should know about. I went to Dr. Vontela for the first time to just get a teeth cleaning. While she was cleaning my teeth, she spoke to me in an extremely condescending tone and asked me if I even brush my teeth and when the last time was that I had seen a dentist. (I have seen a dentist twice a year for normal cleanings since I was a child). She then proceeded to tell me that I needed to get 6 root canals and that if I didn't, things would get really bad for me. I just want to note that I have not had any sensitive teeth or pain whatsoever and had not been told that by my previous dentist that I saw 6 months prior. She spent about 4 minutes cleaning my teeth huffing and puffing how bad of shape they are in (even though I take VERY good care of my teeth). She took x-rays and tried to point out to me where the root canals supposedly needed to happen, but I literally saw nothing on the x-rays that looked out of the ordinary. When she was done I was surprised how quick it took and I checked my teeth to find that they had barely even been cleaned. As I was leaving, the receptionist (I'm not sure what her name was but it was a woman in her 50's or 60's) started making me a payment plan for the 6 root canals that Dr. Vontela so rudely suggested. I kindly asked the receptionist to have my x-rays sent to my previous dentist that I had been with for over 10 years to get a second opinion. The receptionist then got very upset and started raising her voice with me and speaking to me like I was a 3 year old child! She said, "I'm not going to waste my time printing out this payment plan option if you're not going to stick with us! So are you going to go through with these root canals or not!?" At this point I was so shocked by the lack of integrity and professionalism of this practice that I just told her to print them but I still want the x-rays sent to my doctor. She then started saying something under her breath about me and I took the print out and left. I went to my previous dentist who I had the x-rays sent to and he advised that there is no way I needed 6 root-canals and that there was only ONE tooth that looked a bit out of the ordinary but he would never recommend a root canal for it and would just cover it with a filling and monitor it in the future. He was even shocked how poorly she had cleaned my teeth. If you are thinking about choosing Dr. Vontela as your family dentist, I STRONGLY ADVISE YOU NOT TO. I would never EVER leave children with this woman and I surely wouldn't trust what she says to be the truth. They accept denti-cal and took care of my cleaning and my cavities in 2 visits over 3 days. We have found our dental office! Rainelle has the front desk handled beautifully, Ashley is a gem and Dr.Vontela (or Dr.V as I fondly refer to her) is an amazing woman. All too often nowadays, a lot of dental providers are out to do unnecessary cosmetic treatment for money. As a retired dental receptionist, I have witnessed it first hand. There is none of that with Dr.V. She is concerned for her patient's dental health and well-being first and foremost, which I find refreshing and above all, HONEST. She does only necessary treatment, is up-front and honest about what your treatment options are and will work with you to get the best quality of care that she can offer. Dr.V does not beat around the bush! She is going to tell you about the TRUE state of your dental health, be it favorable or not, you know she will never mislead you. I love that I have found a dental office that I am entirely at ease and comfortable going to and taking my children to. I have to say that my daughters visit at this office was one of the best visits she has ever been treated at . Concerned with our new insursnce change , the receptionist was exceptional with her knowledge and her courteous manner. She explained things in detail and got us in right away . My daughter loved the hygienist and the dentist. I was able to chat with the dentist who was a very pleasant and professional . Going in, I knew there was work that I would have to get done. However, Dr. Vontela's workmanship was not good. I had a root canal and crown done on one tooth in which I am currently having pain and sensitivity with this same tooth. ODD!! I had a root canal and a crown done on another tooth (a different dentist) and I had no problems. She also removed an old filling and refilled the tooth. Now less than a year later she tells me I now need a crown on that same tooth. I went to her because she was local; as I just moved to the area. However, after this experience I will drive the hour to my old dentist. Sadly, most of my annual benefit was spent on the horrible root canal and crown. So, I will be forced to pay to get her poor workmanship fixed by another dentist. read more

If I could give a zero I would!!!!! I went to Dr Vontella a few years back and she continued to tell me how much work I needed. When I told her I didn't need any work done my X-rays look fine, she became very agitated. (I was a dental assistant a few years back) I shared my experience with a few other people that had been patients if Dr Vontella and they have all have had similar experiences. One of her previous patients that I talked to told me that they were belittled by Dr Vontella in a manner that was so unprofessional I was shocked! I ended up taking my X-rays back to my previous dentist. I asked them to review my X-rays and tell me if I'm in need of any work that Dr. Vontella suggested and they said absolutely not. Wish I could give ZERO STARS!!! So I have attended this dentist for over 5 years unfortunately!! My whole entire family goes here. Sad to say that the front receptionist, Raenell, is most definitely rude and unprofessional. It got so bad to the point where I only wanted to call on Fridays because I knew she always had Friday off. She has never once been nice to me over the phone. She constantly hangs up on me when I need to reschedule an appointment and wants to know my whole entire life story as to why I need to cancel! Also throughout the years I have noticed that they wrongly charged my insurance company. They would charge for an X Ray when I didn't even receive one that time! She also NEVER wants to numb you during a cavity fill and a few times she had drilled so deep during filling that I felt it! Worst pain ever and caused so much anxiety for me to where I would panic when she told me I had another cavity! Multiple coworkers and family members of mine have left this dentist due to the horrible front receptionist and the dentist being rough and speaking to you in a harsh tone. Very unprofessional. My children are so frightened of her! Seriously what a nightmare! Last time I tried to reschedule an appointment raenell told me that I'm no longer allowed to go there! I have no idea why I never switched sooner but I suppose it was because this was the only dentist I had ever known. I Am now at a new dentist in Manteca and my dental appointments are no longer causing me to feel anxious and I now feel comfortable and welcomed instead of having to deal with raenell !! read more

I have been going to Dr. Vontella's office for quite some time now and never had any problems. I don't know what's wrong with some of these people giving her one star review. Not to mention I should say this is the valley and people here love to make stuff up and demonize other groups of people. Not to mention I have a mixed ethnic background, and I assure you I had to put up with a lot of scumbags in this town. Plus many people who used to live in Manteca had the same problem like I did with local folks in this town. Always demonizing, over exaggerating, making stuff up about you that isn't true and playing the victim. I guess living in Manteca or just the valley overall brings out the worse in people. LOL Even some of my foreign friends consider the valley to not be part of the U.S because of some of the mean and nasty people here. Anyways let's get back on topic. She and her staff have always been friendly and professional to me. Dr. Vontella is very outspoken and direct and it doesn't mean that she's rude. Dentists are supposed to be like that. They are just telling you to make sure to take care of your teeth properly, so you won't have any serious problems. Is that really too much to ask for, or are some people becoming soft and getting their feelings hurt easily? Or they're most likely racists which Manteca is polluted with them. Trust me I've been living here since I was 4, since 1995, and I feel like Elvira sometimes. If you don't know who she is look her up. The Receptionist was on a personal call for at least 10 minutes in a very small office. Once I was taken back the assistant that took my x-rays was very nice but not professional, she even used words that were not appropriate. (Bordered on cursing) when I finally saw the dentist I felt that it was one big up sell between she and the receptionist. I was basically told every tooth in my south needed work, and the receptionist had everything documented in a way that would utilize every cent of my insurance and break me. I take very good care of my teeth and gums, and went in for one issue. I left feeling as if nothing were accomplished andthat the entire proccess had been one big intent to sell me on things that I didn't need. The front desk personnel are very knowledgeable and helpful. I recently became a new client and went in with a cracked tooth and possible root canal..I was given medication for the night before and in the morning to help my anxiety and was not sure if I could find a ride from home and back..the staff offered to pick me up and bring me home..This is going over and above what is required! I should have listened to 2 of my co workers when they told me not to come to this place. I went in for an consultation for deep cleaning. Dr. Vontela was really nice and made me feel really comfortable about getting my deep cleaning done at her office. I eventually scheduled an appointment but later had to call and cancel due to.. well life happening! It went to voice mail and a few days later I called to reschedule. The receptionist was a asshole!!! In her words she told me "we did not appreciate you calling and caceling so we will not be rescheduling you. She made time for your deep cleaning and root canal. If you want your work done here your going to have to wait until she is ready and makes time for you. If you do not like it then you can take your business elsewhere" What a B**ch!? First of all okay I called to cancel AHEAD of time. 2nd of all Root Canal? I never said anything about a root canal so was she just going to say I need that because I was going to pay cash for the procedure and braces? I most certainly do not need one. I have seen Dr. Vontela since she took over the practice from Dr. Palmer years ago. At first, I was a bit reluctant to see a new dentist; however, I KNEW within minutes of my first visit that my teeth and I were in the best of hands. I LOVE GOING TO MY DENTIST!!! How many people can say that, especially when they have bad teeth and have had major dental work done over many years? She has corrected dental work that was previously done and has kept my teeth and gums healthy! She and her staff went out of their way to make me comfortable after I had back surgeries and could barely sit or recline. They truly went above and beyond and spent more time with me, even though it meant that Dr. Vontela did not get lunch. They are genuinely concerned about the person as a whole, as well as provide the best possible dental care available. Dr. Vontela has such integrity that she would rather turn away a patient than jeopardize healthy teeth or perform unnecessary procedures.
