I found several vetted companies that were nearby, so I set out to deciding what kind of lock I'd like. We decided that we wanted something that automatically locks when we leave and close the door. I did some research and was looking at a particular Yale lock, and called the companies on my list to get prices for the lock and installation. North London Locksmiths was 5th on my contact list, I believe. The gentleman that answered the phone was happy to assist (they certainly all weren't thrilled to speak to me, that's for sure - A few acting like I was putting them out by contacting them to consider them for the job). He asked why I was interested in the Yale lock, and that they have a lock by ERA that is virtually the same, but much less expensive and much better quality, by his estimation. He advised that I look up that lock and to feel free to contact them back. I did some research, and decided that was the way to go. The savings of the money, plus the fact that he brought it up in the first place gave me a lot of trust in his business, so we set-up the appointment for the following-day. The installation took about an hour, and he did have to cut a bit out of our door frame to fit it in, but he did a nice job with filling the hole. Unless you look really closely, you can't even tell. All-in-all, we were very happy, and we really like the new lock.

I apolgised but the response was 'what, do you expect me to spend my time, like a mug, looking for your shoes?'. I can only assume that the guy (manager? Surely not!) was annoyed that they'd had to resole my husband's shoes for free because the first job they'd done wasn't good enough, because he followed up with, 'I work for free and then you lose your ticket. How ironic'. [Note, the tone was a sneering one]. When I told him I was shocked at his treatment of me, he said, 'I can speak to you how I like because I am a man; I am THE man; I own this shop. Now, bye bye then, off you go!' and he gestured me off the premises with his hands. I'm eight months pregnant and probably a bit hormonal ( cried when I left the shop) but another customer came to ask me if I was ok. She also said that she found the same guy extremely rude, but went there because, so far, they'd done an ok job. I can only guess that the customer service is ok so long as you don't complain ... Anyway, for all of its obscurity, Franchi has saved my life, only on one occasion, but for that I give it a huge amount of credit. The store stocks a huge amount of stuff considering how small it looks from the outside, you can buy all sorts of power tools that you never would have thought necessary in central London.
