Unbelievable shoe shine experience and pleasurable service. Results were outstanding and higher than my expectations.

When I grew up, Church's shoes were among the most desired footwear you could own. Most of my…read morefriends knew the brand, but you had to travel to London or New York (possibly Milan and some other exclusive towns as well) to buy them. It is quite a different story today. Church's shoes may still be of good quality, but I would rate them considerably lower than Crockett & Jones or Tricker's, and I do not like their bland stores and generic feel. The shops look like they belong to a decently posh high-street brand, and the staff so far has never gone out of their way to help me find what I was looking for. Quite a few of their shoes come in a type of leather termed "polished binder" which feels really plasticky and is likely of inferior quality. And most of their shoes are lacking the elegance expected of a great British shoe. I have certainly seen worse shoes than Church's, but if I go to London for shoe shopping, there are definitely other shops that spring to mind if I am looking for a certain type of shoe.

4 stars for the shoes... -1 star for the service. The shoes here speak for themselves. You don't…read moreneed much to sell them. I suppose the salesmen felt that way too. There were only a few present in the store and they stayed back waiting for you to approach them asking for a size instead of approaching you, welcoming you to the store, or asking if I needed any help finding a size. Given the brand of Church's, I was a bit shocked with the lack of personal touch. I bought a pair of Cheaney's and the service was a TON better. Hell, I even visited the Tim Little store and they offered better service for a newer British brand. To top it off when I got home it seemed that the salesman didn't even put a pair of shoe socks in my box! Comon... Where's the attention to detail!? Will probably not return to a Church's store to buy a 2nd pair, but try another brand first with better service.

They saved by beloved Frye boots for HALF the price of another local shoe repair shop. NOW, color…read moreme impressed, slap those newly suited boots on me and call me happy! Hoxton Shoe Repairs -- it's over. They quoted me 100 quid to repair the boots, which would require resoling/heeling and some rebuffing to get them to their former shine. 100 quid!? And pay it up front before the work is done? WTF!? (and to be honest they've screwed up a few pairs before so I wasn't keen to pay them beforehand). I knew that couldn't be right and honestly I could just nearly buy a new pair for that price, so it seemed crazy. So with a wasted trip and disappointment, I weighed my options and did some more research. Second opinion come hither! I called around and reached Timpson in the City -- who assured me they could likely do it for much less but would need to see the boots to be sure. Now I can tell you they were very beat up from a year of walking the brutal London streets (and I'm hard on shoes in general) -- so I wasn't sure they were salvageable, but off I went to see. And.... £44! My boots look good as new and were done in 5 days -- for £44. Resoled, reheeled, buffed, shined and looking pretty damn good. This is about the price that can be justified for restoring some very nice quality boots to their former glory, I would guess it gets me at least another 1-2 years of good wear out of them, which is great. Highly recommended! It's going to be my new shoe repair shop -- Hoxton Shoe Repairs, I've given you a few chances and I am just done. Timpson, you're in!
