When I grew up, Church's shoes were among the most desired footwear you could own. Most of my…read morefriends knew the brand, but you had to travel to London or New York (possibly Milan and some other exclusive towns as well) to buy them. It is quite a different story today. Church's shoes may still be of good quality, but I would rate them considerably lower than Crockett & Jones or Tricker's, and I do not like their bland stores and generic feel. The shops look like they belong to a decently posh high-street brand, and the staff so far has never gone out of their way to help me find what I was looking for. Quite a few of their shoes come in a type of leather termed "polished binder" which feels really plasticky and is likely of inferior quality. And most of their shoes are lacking the elegance expected of a great British shoe. I have certainly seen worse shoes than Church's, but if I go to London for shoe shopping, there are definitely other shops that spring to mind if I am looking for a certain type of shoe.

4 stars for the shoes... -1 star for the service. The shoes here speak for themselves. You don't…read moreneed much to sell them. I suppose the salesmen felt that way too. There were only a few present in the store and they stayed back waiting for you to approach them asking for a size instead of approaching you, welcoming you to the store, or asking if I needed any help finding a size. Given the brand of Church's, I was a bit shocked with the lack of personal touch. I bought a pair of Cheaney's and the service was a TON better. Hell, I even visited the Tim Little store and they offered better service for a newer British brand. To top it off when I got home it seemed that the salesman didn't even put a pair of shoe socks in my box! Comon... Where's the attention to detail!? Will probably not return to a Church's store to buy a 2nd pair, but try another brand first with better service.

They saved by beloved Frye boots for HALF the price of another local shoe repair shop. NOW, color…read moreme impressed, slap those newly suited boots on me and call me happy! Hoxton Shoe Repairs -- it's over. They quoted me 100 quid to repair the boots, which would require resoling/heeling and some rebuffing to get them to their former shine. 100 quid!? And pay it up front before the work is done? WTF!? (and to be honest they've screwed up a few pairs before so I wasn't keen to pay them beforehand). I knew that couldn't be right and honestly I could just nearly buy a new pair for that price, so it seemed crazy. So with a wasted trip and disappointment, I weighed my options and did some more research. Second opinion come hither! I called around and reached Timpson in the City -- who assured me they could likely do it for much less but would need to see the boots to be sure. Now I can tell you they were very beat up from a year of walking the brutal London streets (and I'm hard on shoes in general) -- so I wasn't sure they were salvageable, but off I went to see. And.... £44! My boots look good as new and were done in 5 days -- for £44. Resoled, reheeled, buffed, shined and looking pretty damn good. This is about the price that can be justified for restoring some very nice quality boots to their former glory, I would guess it gets me at least another 1-2 years of good wear out of them, which is great. Highly recommended! It's going to be my new shoe repair shop -- Hoxton Shoe Repairs, I've given you a few chances and I am just done. Timpson, you're in!

British Boot Company - Which I picked up a pair to bring back to the states. I am complete.

They took the time to treat me and my family with such care and attention. It was beyond professionalism. They were taking care of you as if we were Family..." immediately Collin had approached me and asked me if I needed help shortly thereafter Nick also chimed in and asked me if we needed anything to please ask. There were more than happy to help us out. I'm not sure what all the negativity with some of these reviews that have been posted recently, but I'll tell you one thing for sure. My experience was nothing but AMAZING!!. These two guys are extremely helpful, knowledgeable and educational about their products. They were a real pleasure to meet with and to talk to and hearing all the stories about the business and how they started working from ground up in the family. We ended up picking out some shoes, ended up with nine pairs of shoes!!! The value for the shoes is amazing people don't realize that the value on these shoes is priceless. You're basically purchasing a(Vintage ) time piece. These are vintage shoes from years back. They have been stored for sale..." so if you're complaining about being taken for a price or paying too much money them, you obviously shouldn't be buying these shoes.." because the majority of these shoes are vintage and that's what you're paying for .iIf not, go somewhere else and shop. This place is outstanding for Doc Martins and amazing handmade English shoes that you can't find anywhere else!! I will definitely be purchasing more from the States and stay away from that cheap mass-produced plastic stuff they sell in the U.S. Thank You again Nick & Collin , for a Wonderful and Amazing educational Experience !!!!

Given her fondness and love for the shoes and boots (we also were married in them), she wanted to find a bonafide pair. She succeeded in finding a gorgeous red pair of boots. I liked their selection so much and was impressed with the discussions from the staff about the history and the craftsmanship, I came back to buy my own pair of shoes. They are magical. Easily located around the block from Camden Train Station where you can catch the Tube, if you love Docs, you need to check out the originator.
