Had similar experiences than earlier post from 2024... Went in for a 15 minute initial exam. Dr. Chan informed me "Here, I will get the camera so we can both see" and barely placed the camera inside my nose. The camera did not reveal any information Dr. Chan did not already have from the initial exam. I was billed $1200 for the visit. $600 for Endsoscopy (the brief camera insert), and $600 in facility fees. I consider Dr. Chan untrustworthy and misrepresents his work. read more

A medical condition was observed during a visit via PacMed - Northgate that resulted in a referral to Swedish Medical Center's otolaryngology or ear, nose, throat specialists. I opted for the Seattle - Ballard location over the Seattle - First Hill or Issaquah locations due to proximity to Shoreline. *Visit #1 initial consultation on 2/17/21, free street parking up to 4 hours. Masked, temperature checked, and socially distanced in a tiny reception area. Initial intake forms were completed. We met Dr. Chan and a medical transcription assistant in a clean exam room, all of us masked. Vitals and visual ENT observations taken. Observation concurred with the family medical doctor from PacMed. Professional demeanor and procedure explained in clear layperson's terminology. We spent more time in the waiting area, than the actual exam room. Despite having insurance coverage, the bill was over $300. Guess this situation is considered cosmetic, insert eye roll here towards Swedish and Premera. *Visit #2 actual outpatient procedure on 3/10/21, paid $1 for two hours street parking. Initially this procedure was scheduled two weeks earlier. Day of the procedure, I received a phone call two hours prior that Dr. Chan requested this appointment to be cancelled and rescheduled. I remembered being so annoyed because of the logistics to get that time off from work. Turned out it was a smart decision to reschedule, because the performed procedure should not be hurried and become a haphazard epic fail. Folks present in the clean exam room, were myself, the patient, Dr. Chan, his medical transcription assistant, and his nurse. The procedure used localized injections of lidocaine and patient was conscious throughout the procedure. I was given a handful of neosporin packets and the antibiotic prescription was phoned in to our local Bartell Drugs in Shoreline. I was present more for morale support, but as a science professional was observing the entire procedure like a hawk, and to comprehend the after care instructions. Dr. Chan narrated the procedure, did the least invasive but thorough extraction, and deft sterile saline rinse and suture closure. *Visit #3 removal of stitches on 3/15/21, paid 25 cents for 30 minutes street parking Folks present in the exam room, were myself, the patient, Dr. Chan, and his medical transcription assistant. Took only a few minutes, snip snip, a dab of neosporin, and all done. This was an uneventful procedure. No infection, no reaction to the antibiotic prescribed, thankfully. All done. Just glad the pathology report stated it was a benign dermal cyst. As long as I don't hear the words malignant or cancer, I'm a happy Mama Bear. I now await a whopper of a medical bill from Swedish and Premera. The Yelp reviews were across the board, which had me wary having Dr. Vincent Chan as the initial medical specialist referral. But for these specific three appointments, all of my questions on behalf of the patient were answered. I was satisfied with the final outcome. Professional, straightforward, thorough. read more

Dr. Chan was misleading about the procedure he performed, wouldn't tell me the name or details and then I was billed $1200 for a 10-15 minute appointment instead of the $30 copay I was expecting. He asked to look at my nose, I asked what he was going to do (based on papers saying what they might extra procedures for), and he said "I'm just going to take a couple pictures". He failed to mention that he was performing a nasal endoscopy that classifies as a surgery. He wouldn't even tell me the name of the procedure, despite there being signs in the office saying that you have a right to get an explanation of the services performed. This is not informed consent, and feels like a bait and switch. Get "consent" based on a dismissive uninformative explanation, then bill for something the patient hasn't agreed to. read more

I've had a bad experience with this office due to a scheduling mistake by the office that has now turned into a $250 out of pocket charge and 6 months of attempting to find someone within the office or Swedish billing office that is willing to discuss the facts. I resisted writing a review until now because I am familiar with how complex medical billing can be, but a threat of sending the amount to a collection agency has been my tipping point. The simple facts for me are that I scheduled a HEARING TEST with this office as an internal Swedish referral from my primary care provider. When I arrived at Dr. Chan's office I wasn't told that a hearing test wasn't scheduled until Dr. Chan saw me. He acknowledged the mistake and I responded that I wanted the test as the purpose for my visit. Now I have a $350 charge and my insurance has paid around $100. Why would I pay $250 out of pocket and ask my insurance company to pay $100. Neither party got the services that were requested. I suspect Dr. Chan is a good physician and person, but I just can't get past having to pay for a mistake that Dr. Chan acknowledged to me in person. read more

Just trying to call the office for an appointment is like calling Comcast! I am a few blocks away to their office in Ballard and they wanted me to go to First Hill just to get my ears cleaned. I don't do water lovage because it causes vertigo for me but now Dr.Chan has his assistants only doing the cleaning. Looking for another doctor. read more

Dr. Chan is quite amiable and nice. Definitely recommended. He looked in all the right places and informed me about the situation and options. He listened to and answered my questions in an appropriate way. He spent sufficient time with me. Yes, he is a fast talker and I can see how people say he is "intense", but it wasn't problematic. I went with four stars instead of five because four is "Yay! I'm a fan" in Yelp lingo whereas five is "Woohoo! As good as it gets!", which is probably not the case if looking at the big picture. The Swedish offices in Ballard aren't exactly swanky, and the parking is difficult, but the people I dealt with from start to finish were quite nice and helpful. read more

I've visited him specifically for tonsil stones, he spent maybe 5 seconds looking at my throat. Multiple times I asked him if he could check between soft palate and the tonsils. He didn't, yet he said my tonsils looked clear. I had swelling and discomfort for such a long time. I ended up checking with a flashlight and q-tip at home and he was quite wrong about my tonsils being clear. I have make another visit to another specialist now. read more

Went in for a right ear problem after the Seahawks and Saints game - doctor Chan was so kind, asked lots of questions, explained options, and made his recommendation. You would expect a ear throat and nose doctor to at least take a look at your ears, nose and throat. I explained problems with pain in the ear, tinnitus, and trouble breathing, he looks at me from four yards away, says "got a tmj specialist" then walks out. Charges $200 for the visit, without having done anything. A visit to Web MD would have given more insightful information than this guy. Definitely not going back to a "doctor" that doesn't even care to take a look at you. If there were -5 stars options, that would be more appropriate. read more

I went to see Dr Chan because he is closer to where I live and I wanted to try to avoid driving downtown. (I had seen Dr Calvin Knapp for many years, and he is AWESOME - but downtown.) Dr Chan on the other hand was horrible. 1. He came into the tiny exam room with an entourage of people including a Scribe, and a Physicians Assistant. I did not appreciate having all these people just standing there staring at me. 2. He was very brisk and rushed. I have a chronic problem that I have been dealing with for over 10 years, and he did not ask or want to listen to any of my history. He just gave what sounded like a canned speech about "sinusitis," and ticked off the standard list of remedies - all of which I have had over 10 years of experience with - I know them by heart and I know what works for me and what doesn't, and I am already doing or have done them all. BUT he wouldn't listen to any of that because he just kept going with his prepared script. 3. Eventually he decided to prescribe an antibiotic, and we had a discussion about which ones I had tried in the past, which ones were effective or ineffective, and which ones I had an ADVERSE REACTION to. He told me which one he was going to give me. I questioned whether it would be OK since is was in the same family as other drugs I had reacted poorly to. He INSISTED it would be OK. He also said he would print out a handout for me with all his recommendations. 4. As he was rushing for the door, I asked a question. Silly me. His response was an incredulous 'are you kidding me !!!???' I don't have time to answer that !!!, and then he told me to "look it up on the internet" !!! Then poof, he disappeared out the door. 5. Now I am sitting there with the PA and the Scribe. They are just staring at me sitting there, so I ask if I am supposed to leave now (as opposed to wait for the promised handout.) They told me to leave, so I did. I never did get any handout. 6. I stopped at the front desk to ask if a follow up appointment was recommended after the course of antibiotics, she told me NO. 7. Next stop the pharmacy to pick up the antibiotics. The RX they had ready was NOT the drug we had discussed and the one he had told me he wanted me to try !!! Not knowing if an error had been made, I asked the Pharmacist to call his office. But he could not be reached, so Ieft the RX rather than come home with the wrong thing. His office never called the pharmacy back, and never responded to their inquiries !!! I finally got a message 2 days later through the Swedish online MyChart - Dr Chan had "changed his mind." Period. I do NOT recommend DR Chan, and am going back (downtown) to Dr Calvin Knapp. read more

Perhaps there are good reasons that my experience with Dr. Chan was characterized by brief encounters, rushed appointments, inconsistent diagnosis and poor follow up. If there are, they were not made apparent to me other than that he is a very busy man. I had to incur months of scheduling challenges to get to a diagnosis and that may not have even happened if I had not done significant research on my own to ask the questions that lead to the "likely" diagnosis. An attempt to reach via mychart messaging, were left unanswered. On the other hand the Audiologist in the office Dr. Hazelwood was the polar opposite; responsive, patient, and helpful leaving my utterly confused how to rate this experience. read more

I first went to see Dr. Chan starting in June of 2014 for a mass that I found on my neck. After having an ultrasound done on the mass, I was referred to Vincent, and saw him for my first biopsy within a couple of weeks. As it turns out, that mass turned out to be a tumor on my thyroid gland. Dr. Chan worked with me from start to finish with this, and was very clear with what was needing to be done, and made sure that I understood what was going to happen. He answered all of my questions, and some that I didn't even think to ask. In addition to the biopsies, he was also the surgeon who performed my total thyroidectomy. As I lay in my hospital bed surrounded by family after my surgery, Dr. Chan came in to check on me personally, and to introduce himself to my family who were happy to thank the man who brought me through a successful surgery. In addition to my surgery, Dr. Chan's follow through with checking in with me to make sure the healing was going well was wonderful. I seemed to be a case of rarity with the fact that my mass turned out to be cancer, and then I was part of a small percentage that had hypertrophic scarring (this occurs when your body produces too much collagen). Because of this Dr. Chan referred me to a wonderful plastic surgeon, who was able to correct the healing of my scar be re-opening the incision, and then injecting steroids during the healing process to keep the scar from inflaming again. To continue with my already bizzare rarity with side effects, I started to develop clogged salivary glands as a side effect from my radioactive I131 therapy. Dr. Chan is one of a small handful of doctors in the Seattle area that has performed a procedure called a Sialendoscopy. It is a fairly new procedure from what I was told, but I was pleased that I was able to keep seeing Dr. Chan for these issues, since he had been working with me from the start. A little over a year later, I am still experiencing some side effects from losing my thyroid, and I still have to go back every year to have a body scan done to make sure the cancer is not coming back. But I am so very grateful for the attention and care of Dr. Chan, and the other professionals with Swedish. I would highly recommend Dr. Chan if you are in need of an Otolaryngologist. He's definitely a busy guy, but he does care about his patients. Thank you for cutting the cancer out of my neck!!! :) read more

Dr. Chan did surgery on my son a few weeks ago. His clinic staff is great! He did a great job on the surgery. I can say he doesn't have a great bedside manner! I really like doctors that do any work with children to explain to the child what's going to happen! He would only talk to me even when my child tried to talk to him. I know doctors are busy as I work for a doctor. But I would like a dr to take the time to acknowledge my child. I did see him for surgery but he didn't say a word! He walked in as the wonderful anesthesiologist was explaining everything to my son. He smiled and that was it. I didn't see him until after surgery! I just thought that was a little odd! I would have liked for him to ease my fears and tell me what's going to happen! Even though I work in the medical field I do not see my own child like this every day! It's scary! I just would have liked a better bedside manner! The surgery did go great thank god! I must say the hospital nurses at Swedish Ballard are AMAZING!!!! read more
